That was such a bad basketball game between UConn and PC. I can’t believe I watched the whole thing.

I wondered earlier in the year if Connecticut could improve enough in defense and rebounding to win when the shots weren’t falling. A game like tonight’s makes it tough to draw any conclusions, but they hung in there on defense during stretches when they couldn’t get points. So, pretty positive. Unfortunately, a huge factor in the win was that Providence just could not make their free throws, which is really more about what they didn’t do well than what Connecticut did well. Still, a win is a win. What an awful game, though, except for result.

They can win in so many ways which is so encouraging. Spencer and Newton mostly struggled but Castle stepped up big time. He was great on both ends of the floor.

He did, looking at the box score, but in truth it was hard to tell in real time because of how choppy the game was. Nice that they can find answers when needed. During the game I was struck by how every time Providence seemed about to catch up, they would miss a free throw. UConn doesn’t have the reputation of having one of the more famous on campus arenas but that home crowd can really help in games like that one. I think they have changed the mix of students and donors or they have put the louder fans closer to the game, because it has been noticeable in recent years.

As the intensity, physicality, and general nastiness of the Big East had escalated, Steph Castle has raised his game. This was going to be another battle against another team who’d take their best shot at UConn and they did not back down. Spencer got hot again and his defense/hustle was really at a high level. An underrated guy today was Hassan Diarra. I really liked how he steadies things and makes the right play.

Now to get ready for a Butler team who will be another tough game given how they looked against us before and also last night against Creighton.

Very impressed with this team. No Karaban, Clingan in foul trouble again, road game against Pitino. It had all the makings of a trap game. Steph Castle continues to ball out like the 5 star recruit he is (I was starting to worry). They handled this game like champs.

34-4 record over the last 12 months. That’s decent.

I think it is good they have three games coming up against Marquette and Creighton in the next few weeks. Butler was a good test but those games should also help sharpen them up. Might not win them all but they could use ranked opponents.

Barring injury or some freak thing, UConn is going to repeat. They are far and away the best team in the country.

I just got done watching this off the dvr. Holeee sheeit. That was an absolute asskicking. If they stay healthy they are the favorites in march. Just beastly. They had their way with Marquette all day. Looking forward to rematches 2+3. Marquette will be better prepared when the huskies come to Milwaukee in a couple weeks

Tonight was going to be a tough one regardless. A loss wouldn’t have surprised me. I was not expecting Creighton to shoot 70 percent. This is pretty ridiculous. Disappointed in UConn’s energy level.

12-20 from 3 for Creighton with 12 minutes to go. Damn…

Not sure if wagons have brakes, but if they do I guess we need to pump them.
A little I guess. When a top 20 team shoots as well as Creighton did last night, yeah you’re gonna lose. But if that’s what it’ll take to beat UConn, they’re in pretty good shape. This shooting nights won’t happen very often.

And UCONN shot 18% from 3.

I agree, but would also point out that these type of hot shooting nights by good teams happen all the time in the tournament. Hopefully, this will be a good learning experience as to how to still be competitive against teams shooting like that.

Yes for sure. UConn definitely can lose. It'll just take a tremendous effort by a really good opponent to beat them. We've seen that happen many times in the NCAA tournament, but last night doesn't do anything in my mind to remove UConn from the top of the list of who can win the tournament.

Glad I didn't watch. Those are the kinds of performances (team's at home, crazy crowd, shoot the lights out) that result in me overrating a team when it comes to picking my brackets.

UConn won't be playing any road games in the NCAA tournament. They also won't likely have a game where they shoot 18% from three while the other team shoots 50% (and it was like at 60% when the game was still in doubt) from three at high volume.

Was talking about Creighton, not UConn. Already know how good UConn is.

Oh yeah, my bad. I read it the opposite. Thanks for the clarification. But Creighton is a good team, make no mistake. They have a good chance at being a Sweet 16 squad.

A bad night against a good team. Creighton played out of their minds and combined w/UConn having a great win about 48 hours earlier we should have seen a loss coming. They dropped all the way to the #2 overall seed still in Brooklyn and Boston. If it takes that kind of performance to beat them, I’m confident they’ll be fine.

Campus has been buzzing since last night as students began setting up tents outside Gampel. They’re ready for some fun tonight.

Grind it out first half. Up by 10. I will take it. I love Gus Johnson but he’s lost a step. Lots of mistakes calling the action.

2nd half update. Nice response after a mini Nova run. Karaban needs to re-find his shot.

And he picked a great time to do so.

Yeah Fox has done a great job capturing the chant all year.
There were several at XL vs Marquette where the chant was going while the lights were going crazy - was pretty awesome to hear.

Clinched a share of Big East regular season title for the first time since 2006. Win tomorrow and first outright since 2002.

This completely blows my mind that they’ve won 4 nattys since the last time they won a conference title outright.

No Kolek for Marquette to be fair, but on the flip side, castle and clingan missed about 5 or 6 bunnies down low where the first half lead seriously could have been 20.

Love Spencers fire, but he has to turn it down from a 10 to a 9. His T took what could have ended up being a blowout to a close game down the stretch with three guards in somewhat foul trouble.

The game at Providence won't be easy, but I think we are already in a good place to get the 1 seed in the East where we get 4 games in brooklyn and TD Garden before hopefully another Final 4 appearance.
Uconn fans will be loud.
