Worcester also has Stephen Scott. Elih Marrero is kind of in a precarious position with Teel & Hickey in AA & those guys in AAA.

Hickey is another guy like Scott who probably needs to learn if he can play 1B/LF acceptably enough to carry their bat, though, so Marrero may be the Teel backup & get called up if any of the catcher logjam goes away.

Once Yorke got announced to AA, Meidroth to AAA made a ton of sense. & I think Benitez earned AAA this Spring (7.2 IP, 2.35 ERA, 13 k's).

Going to be a fair # of lefties there again...

That's exciting. Meidroth might have been the most fun player to watch this spring of all the prospects. He just seems like an easy player to root for.

Still won’t ever beat the group of lefties Bloom stashed in Worcester last year. They outnumbered the right-handers at times.

Caught up with Justin Hagenman today at WooSox media day…. Might want to watch him this year. New cutter is working wonders for him.

Caught up with Justin Hagenman today after a solid showing in big league camp for the Red Sox. Was “surprised” by how many swings and misses his cutter created. “It was a new pitch for me last year and we upped the usage of it this spring. When we did that, it ticked up in velocity and played better off my other pitches. Thought it was working pretty well for me.”

Caught up with Zack Kelly yesterday in Worcester in regards to recovering from his oblique injury. “I still have to build up a little bit. I have only pitched once since March 2nd in a game. The first couple of outings here in Worcester are going to be me building up more. I still have to go two innings and am going to try to go back-to-back games early on.”

Game today postponed to Friday 3:35. Single admission 7innings per game doubleheader.

Article on Grant Gambrell:

Grant Gambrell took the ball for the season opener last Friday and threw four scoreless innings while punching out seven batters. While the right-hander mentioned it was '“a real cold one”, he was honored to be the opening day guy picked to pitch.

“I am never a finger licker, but it was so cold I had to lick my fingers and use bubble gum to try to get a little bit of tack because there was no moisture in the air.” Gambrell told Beyond the Monster on Tuesday. “I was trying to do as much as possible just to find a little bit of grip whenever possible.”

I thought it was interesting with most of the MLB starters drastically cutting down on the 4 seam fastball that Gambrell is upping the usage of his:

“It is the same arsenal as last year but I am trying to use the four-seam a little more this year just so people don’t only sit on the sinker.” Gambrell said. “It just gives them something else to change their eye levels with. I just pitch my game and fill up the zone. I have a really good defense and good catchers that are here so I trust them to make the plays when they come and I will do my job to throw strikes and keep the hitters off balance.”

Today has been also postponed. To prevent back to back doubleheaders (and I guess they can’t do Sunday DH) todays home game will be made up as a road game in May or June.

Am I looking in the wrong place, or is there no mention of last night's WooSox one-hitter? Are the minor league game threads dead? Jason "Costanza" Alexander with six hitless innings (7K, 2BB), then Jorge Benitez -- who threw the ball really well in spring training -- pitched a hitless 7th, before allowing a one-out GB single in the 8th. Guerrero with a perfect 9th.

Nathan Hickey hit a first inning HR and Sox won, 9-0.

On Sunday, Worcester lost 10-5, despite a nice outing from Cooper Criswell.

Criswell pitched 5 scoreless, but then left with 1st & 2nd & 1 out in the 6th. Chase Shugart allowed 1 of the 2 runners to score & then came back put fire the 7th & allowed 6 more runs.

Criswell's final line:

5.1 IP
1 ER (0.87 ERA on the season)
4 hits
2 bb
2 hbp
4 k's

82 pitches, 50 strikes (61%)

Overall Shugart allowed 6 runs, 5 earned, in 0.2 IP.

Lucas Luetge allowed a double in the 7th which let Shugart's last runner score, but didn't allow any runs of his own in an inning.

Bernardino continued to struggle in AAA, allowing 3 runs in 0.2 innings (he did get 2 k's).

AJ Politi pitched the last 1.1 innings scoreless with a walk & 3 strikeouts.
