Drives me nuts when teams don't efficiently work the clock at the end of games.

Lakers could have burned so much more clock when they inbounded the ball at 2;15

If LeBron was willing to be a role player like this (if you consider a third banana to be a "role" player), then yeah, he could really help a team. He could be a great distributor and floor leader who also has the ability to go off from time to time. Whether he's willing to not be THE MAN, I don't know. Feels a little like he's allowed AD to be that guy on the Lakers though.
You must be watching a different game I am.

This series could easily be 2-2. LA needed to steal that one game in Denver to have any chance. They aren’t winning three straight now.
Yes, and are we totally sure that Denver is an unstoppable juggernaut? People have been pretty quick to crown their asses, but there are a number of worrying signs. I'm really excited to see them play Minny; that is going to be a slugfest.

As long as Murray continues to shoot like Russell Westbrook, Denver is no juggernaut.

Murray also gives you at least one guy that someone like Lebron can target, which really opens up the Lakers offense. Denver just couldn't get consistent stops in the 4th to make a comeback this time. Crazy that Lakers have led for so much of this series and are down 3-1.

This place is going downhill fast! Post occurred 9 hours ago and still no clip of Darvin Ham’s face photoshopped on Dennis Green’s presser. I tell ya, back in the day…..

I took some Dallas to come out of the WC prior to the playoffs but these Wolves also have the type of defense that can slow them down along with the shotmakers. I do not think Denver is invincible at all and a much tougher path than Boston has. I think we all agree on that last part anyway.

Other thing with Denver is that they are super dependent on two guys-- a sprained ankle or pulled hammy for Murrray or Jokic and they are toast. Their depth is playoff-fine, but not really guys likely to carry more if needed to.

I don't think that's equally true of the other contenders - certainly not Cs, not Minnesota, not OKC. Not even Milwaukee (though we'll find out today!) Same drop-off probably true for Brunson for Knicks. Maybe about the same for Philly and Lakers as for Denver.

The guy is still a borderline top 10 player in the league and you want him to be a role player?

Since 1998, Denver is the 37th team to fall behind by 10+ points in their first 4 playoff games.

None of the previous 36 teams won the title.

If Minnesota completes the sweep and Denver wins tomorrow, do they start their series right away? Or do they wait a week or so to let the rest of the 1st round catch up?

I read this on the internet: "Conference Semifinals: May 6-7, 2024 (but could move up to May 4-5, 2024 if the First Round ends early)"...so i guess some play? Assume they'd have to take into account competing events in arenas, etc., too.

Still, my guess is Denver will close out in 5 and Minny in 4 or 5. So, that does open up the possibility.

That said, if Denver loses game 5 then will be moot as this series will get very interesting, particularly if Murray is seriously hobbled.

Some 3-0 comeback potential here. Lakers have been good enough to be tied or up 3-1.
100%. They matchup everywhere except with defending the Nuggets 4Q two-man game w Murray and Jokic. Calves are no joke. This makes things very interesting if LA can come out of Denver with a win and Murray isn’t 100% the rest of the way.

Those dates are basically accurate. All the game sevens are scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5. The NBA will make sure they have enough programming for the weekend, but they won’t start round 2 any earlier than that.

"Borderline top 10" is another way of saying "around the 12th best player." Or not a guy who can be the best player on a Championship team, unless the role players around him are totally optimized, which LA's aren't. Maybe if the guys around Bron and AD were Derrick White, a healthy Alex Caruso, and Mikal Bridges, the conversation is different.

Plus he's in the harder conference, which means a worse record and not getting to duck the better teams in the first round or two.

Father Time keeps getting brought up because it's not a knock on Bron that he's only a second tier star (not a role player) at this point. Diminished LBJ is pretty comparable to, say, peak Dame. KD and Steph look like they're in similar boats. But if LeBron does desperately want another title, he'd have a better shot in NY or Philly. He may not prioritize that at this stage. That's OK too.

Depends if they have enough games to play on TV. They want at least two games a night so they will fill in where they can for second round starts.

edit - They then wait for the conference finals to line up so they can go East-West-East-West or reverse.

Nuggets should be able to find someone to shoot 8 for 25.

Murray off the dribble breaks down the defense for open 3’s and Gordon dunks. Reggie Jackson can’t crate 25 FGA anymore nor can he set up the Nuggets role players. They were 13-10 without him this year, 44-15 with him.

Yeah I'm definitely one of those people that believes Jokic is the best player in the league by several miles, but the Nuggets have been shockingly vulnerable without Murray over the last few years. I don't know if this speaks more to a weakness in Jokic's game or a real lack of playmaking depth on the Nuggets, but they absolutely need Murray to go any further than round 2.

They only have one shot creator without Murray, and that's simply not enough, as great as Jokic is. It gets too easy to limit him and live with the other guys doing stuff.

I was told championship teams don't play with their food.
No, you don't get it. Denver is a Proven Title Winner with a True Number One Alpha, and so they are allowed to play with their food.

However, if they somehow blow this lead to the Lakers, then the food-playing rules go back into effect.

It's all quite simple, really.

Food playing at the end of a long season dates back to the Red Auerbach days when they were taking to 7 games by .500 teams on several occasions. I was at the 2008 first round series in Atlanta when the Celtics treated G6 like a mid-January game in New Orleans on their way to a title. In 2018, Golden State was down double digits to the Rockets in G7 and then needed Houston to miss 27 consecutive 3-pointers to win the series on the way to a Title. Food playing goes as far back as one of the assistant clubhouse guys getting a girls phone number in the stands for a player.

It is weird but you basically get a decaying wall of invulnerability from criticism from each championship. It takes about 3 years depending on your performance the last year.

Yup, the Bucks sort of still have it (injuries!), but the LeBron/AD Lakers have lost it for sure (I guess straight-up missing the playoffs will do that to ya).

Hoping Denver altitude to do its second half magic. Jokic will also have tons of energy from chilling in the first half.
