But the bolded is true of a Pats draft pick, too. There's some drama and uncertainty in watching the Commissioner take the stage, slowly make his way to the podium, and slowly say, "With the third pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the New England Patriots take . . . Spencer Rattler, QB, South Carolina."
Why not stay off a message board where most people just want the information for ten minutes instead of having the other posters pretend they don’t know what’s going to happen?

Yes, that's been my solution.
Seems like there has always been two threads.

I’ve always been in the just want to know asap camp so I like the aggregators on SoSH posting the info and hate the booth shenanigans that happen now on ESPN.

I'm getting antsy for tonight. Mostly for the Pats, of course, but also hoping my guy Christian Haynes of UConn somehow sneaks into the first round. As of now, most projections have him in the top like 35-40 guys, most likely high second round, but it would be life-changing for him to be a late first rounder.

Fat chance. There are posters who PRIDE themselves on spoiling picks, like they want to leave the impression that they're a key member of an NFL war room or something. It's one of the oddest things I ever see on this site. Like anyone couldn't learn the identity of picks earlier than on ESPN/NFLN if they wanted.
I'm not going to spoil picks, but I'd argue the exact opposite. The people that demand no spoilers because they need to see it announced on TV instead of seeing a tweet with the exact same information are weird as hell. If NFL Network and ESPN covered the selections properly I'd get it, but them drawing out the whole product for ratings and ad revenue makes following it on TV only stupid.

I meant people who spoil them after (seemingly) everyone has agreed not to spoil. But I am weird as hell, so maybe we're all just effed up.

Just piping in because I find the discourse interesting, I am with the no spoiler crew. I have no idea why, it's not like it changes anything and the TV production I agree is annoying. I think it's more exciting hearing the pick in the moment or seeing the ticker at the bottom of the screen saying there's been a trade. It takes a little wind out of the sails seeing it on Twitter beforehand for some reason.

The Ale theorem goes as thus

Ale is weird as hell
If F(x) agrees with Ale, or vice versa, they’re weird as hell.

I know. Why even HAVE the broadcast? I bet it doesn't even do decent ratings. Just for the weirdos, I guess.

As a cord cutter I'm now just sort of used to the idea of being spoiled when it comes to following sports. the sunday ticket stream is generally always a play or two behind the game thread and the various NFL/Fantasy app scoring alerts i have setup for whatever reason. I often know a big play is coming before it happens. Even the MLB app will give me a push notification of scoring plays before i see it happen in the game that same app is streaming to me. it's all pointing i suppose to a future where watching the actual game is beside the point.

It's often more like 5 minutes. But honestly... I can't remember very often that the non-spoiler threads get posts about it. Generally nobody uses that thread. I just checked last year.... nobody spoiled the pick in the no-spoilers thread (because nobody posted in it), 2022.... same thing.

So really what it seems like is very few people care about not be spoiled, and they cant get a discussion thread going.

If you want no spoilers... create a thread with "no spoilers" in the title. It's unlikely it will get a spoiler post. It just also won't get many if any posts at all.
We don't need separate threads for spoilers and non-spoilers. If you want to post a spoiler, use the SPOILER or ISPOILER functions around the pick when posting. That way if people want to see it, they click on it and the rest don't have to see it. Anyone who doesn't gets insta-banned. Simple.

Sorry. I woke up amped for the draft! Happens every year -- I don't pay much attention to it and then lose my mind about it the week of. After four years of shitty QB play, following 30 years of very good and gold-standard QB play, I'm ready for a top QB (prospect).
You should thank your lucky stars you aren't a Bears fan. Or about a dozen other teams that have gone decades with shitty QB play.

is it possible to read these two words in succession without the word intercourse flashing into your brain?

I think that it's funny that the Bears have gone virtually their entire history without a top WR and QB (save Sid Luckman), and appear like they might be getting both a top QB (prospect) and top WR (prospect) within the top ten of this draft.

I had a dream (nightmare?) last night about the draft so I'm clearly very ready for this to be over and get excited about what we actually do.

I am smoking a 10 lb Boston pork butt in between Webex meetings in preparation for the draft. Nothing will spoil my pulled pork sandwiches and QB3 evening.

I miss the good old days when I had a source in the Patriots and would find out about who they wanted before the draft began. Too bad he had to go and take a job in Washington.

given the Tv broadcast is a few seconds behind real time, do you follow sports only online to avoid the delay? Or would you rather watch it unfold with a slight dela

I get the “online spoilers” mentality and it makes sense once the TV coverage stops covering every pick. But for most people who tune into the draft, they don’t want to just read a list of names. They want the experience of the TV event. That’s why the ratings are so high and the draft has been formatted the way it has been.

I actually don’t see any reason to watch the broadcast at all if you’re reading spoilers. You’re going to get better analysis online than from Kiper or whomever and you can skip all the human interest stories and pandering to advertisers.

I never post spoilers on draft day threads, but I don't get what's the issue in wanting to know the pick ahead of time. It's just Goodell reading names off a piece of paper, what's the problem in getting the information a few minutes earlier? Not like the announcement itself is meaningful.
I don’t care about spoilers either way, they’re easy to avoid (just don’t check social media) but I’d argue that people who don’t like spoilers enjoy the build up and drama of the event. For the same reason people like watching live sports instead of just checking box scores after the fact. The experience of watching something unfold is exciting or interesting to a lot of people

I’m firmly in the no spoiler camp, but as noted, that non-spoiler thread hasn’t really gotten off the ground in several years.

I’m here partially for the analysis, but also for the jokes, and a lack of spoilers allows for more synchronized mockery.

I'd suggest we stick with this custom. With one thread there is always confusion. With multiple threads we can boot folks who make mistakes or do it to be dicks.

I think the comparison with live sports is a bad one. A sports game is made up of uncertain events, a draft pick is a certain event with an uncertain outcome. Watching the game play out is a huge part of the fun, I don't think watching Roger Goodell walk to the stage is that meaningful.

Yep, done. Two threads. One with, one without.

I created a sub-forum just for Ferm.

A sports game isn't a certain event with an uncertain outcome?

No, it's comprised of several events. Goals, baskets, touchdowns, points, dribbles, shots, fouls. You watch for those, and also the outcome. The outcome isn't all that matters. You don't go into a game knowing your team won, but not knowing who scored.

And those events have uncertain outcomes. I totally understand why people don't want spoilers. I mean, that's why they have the broadcast.

Thank god we have a spoiler friendly thread.

I just dont like having information held hostage by interviews and commercials.
The picks will be on twitter sooner. No need to wait for SoSH posters -- go right to the source.

I'm not sure whether this is a spoiler or not, so I'm going to post it here. I've seen what happens when you get on Sherm's bad side and I don't want any part of that.

Anyway, I'll be stopping to get fish tacos for the draft on my way home tonight. Just thought I should say something.

Also, I just put $5 on the top 5 picks being in order Williams, Daniels, Maye, MHJ, JJM.
