There doesn’t seem to be a 2023 Orioles thread so if it’s OK with everyone, I’ll get it rolling.

As a Sox fan who has lived in MD for 25 years now, I’ve witnessed up close the general futility that is the O’s. But that is changing . . . (Which does not fill me with any sense of joy).

Clearly the strength of the team is their offense, including base running (19 out of 20 on SB attempts).

Adley Rutschman has quickly established himself as one of the best Cs in the game (Os fans are now having Matt Wieters flashbacks). He’s slashing .373/.467/.627, hit a walk-off HR yesterday and has convinced my 9-year old Sox loving son that he should have a Rutschman jersey.

Ryan Mountcastle is the alternate universe Bobby D— mashing dingers (6 of them to the tune of of a .679 slugging % & a .972 OPS).

They’ve got a solid top to bottom mid to late 20s line-up (Ramos Urias, a GG’er at 3rd who put up a 3.6 WAR last year is fighting for playing time with the #1 prospect, the aptly named Gunnar Henderson).

But (and there’s always a but with the Os), their starting pitching is, and I realize I’m using a very technical term here, hot boiled ass. They’ve got a team ERA of 5.49 which is 12th in the AL. Aside from Kyle Gibson & Felix Bautista there’s not much there there. Though top pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez is up and looks like he will be a keeper.

A team on the rise, though I think the Sons of Larry Sheets are not yet convinced.

I am not ashamed to admit that I love watching this team play. They are a lot of fun. Thanks for starting the thread and I look forward to following along.

Thanks, I appreciate that. It’s funny you say that— my nine year old (who has Mookie, JBJ & X jerseys— tough life lessons) said to me last month, “Can we go to an Os game? They’re so fun.”

I will always be a Sox fan first and foremost. At the same time, there’s something heartening to see a downtrodden franchise on the upswing. And it’s so fun to go to Camden.

I’ll keep the updates coming.

Going to Camden Yards on Thursday for Jays-O's.

Crazy to think this team is 41-24, they've graduated two #1 prospects, and their farm system is loaded. They've got Jordan Westburg hitting .305/.382/.611 in AAA. Colton Cowser is hitting .336/.482/.566 in AAA. They've got another top 100 prospect in Joey Ortiz, who was injured but has hit .328/.370/.549 in AAA.Heston Jkerstad hit .310/.384/.576 in AA and just got promoted to AAA. Coby Mayo is hitting .279/.403/.516 as a 21-year-old in AA. Not a lot of buzz around Cesar Prieto, but he's hit .362/.409/.483 in AA and he's only struck out in 6.2% of his PA

Os walk-off the Yanks tonight, 1-0 on a Santander bomb. And for the first time in a while it looked like more Os fans than Yanks fans in the stands, by far.

Team looks legit. Basically everyone is hitting, they seem to have a never ending supply of prospects & Cano/Bautista is lights out for 8th/9th.
