Is this a Monta Ellis thing? Or something even weirder?
Yeah it's been done before including those we each mentioned....but what is bizarre here is that Oubre was treated by paramedics at the scene per the police and ambulance reports.

Trying to concoct a conspiracy here....Oubre got in a motorcycle accident that is a banned activity in his contact (I don't even know if it is just trying to think of something), ditched the bike and crawled up to the place where he claimed he was hit by a car? If he is lying then it would have to be something in this ballpark, no?

is there supposed to be video evidence? or is this just worded ina way to get clicks?
Yes, according to an Inquirer article there are cameras at the crosswalk where he was allegedly hit. The footage was reviewed by the cops and employees at nearby locations. That tweet was not clear at all and I had the same question.

I find that penalty to be a joke given his repeat offender status and how insane the choke hold was. but then bridges got ten games so who knows what scale they're using.

Yeah, I'd think it wouldn't be unreasonable for a previously well-behaved player to get 5 games for putting an opponent in a chokehold and dragging him across the court.

Was he on a BMX bike? Interesting. I read somewhere he was clipped by the driver's side mirror. Super sucky for him. I was clipped by a car's mirror on my bike in Somerville like 25 years ago, also a hit and run. Its awful.

If he went home before going to the police/hospital, he may have been in shock or had a concussion (or flat out underestimated how much he was hurt). It feels odd that we have this footage. I wonder if riding a bike on a road is allowed per his contract.

I personally think it's getting less likely he got hit by a car, and was fucking around on a BMX and just wiped out.

Exactly what I've been thinking. He may have hit a parked car too. Embarrassing for him if this is what occurred but when you're in shock you make impulse decisions and his may have been to say he was hit by a car....maybe he was messed up and thought the parked car was moving who the hell knows. At the end of the day he's going to recover but it reallly messed up what was looking like a nice contract year to enter FA again.

That was Oubre's thought too.
And mine! Props he saved his bike!

From experience, it is definitely possible that he got clipped by the mirror, and the driver didn't even know he hit him. I'm sure Oubre didn't think he was that injured, called the team trainer or something, and they told him to go to the hospital. Or he was just hoping to walk it off. It clearly happened right near his apartment building, so makes sense to get back to his apartment and figure it out.

Looks like the 8-4 Miami Heat have survived the Strus/Vincent exodus along with the annual Herro injury

They are like a weed that won't go away.

While I find their record super annoying, they have the telltale signs of a good-not-great team. The games they’ve been winning are against flotsam (30-60 combined record). Let’s see where they are in the spring.

We blessedly don't play them again ourselves until late January, unless we meet in the tournament, or are both knocked out of it and get matched up with each other in the ad-hoc games during tournament knockout week. And by late January I expect the Celtics - if healthy - to be a much more well-oiled machine than they are today.

Random question for closer NBA observers. Has Wemby been blocked in a regular season game yet?

I believe they're also the only team with a winning record without a win by double-digits.

Jokic has 23-13-16 through 3 quarters. 20 20 20 has only been accomplished by Wilt and who else?

Given that they're going to make the playoffs regardless, I sort of don't care what seed they end up at. And yes, look like a not-bad not-great team.

Agreed, they’ll be in the playoffs, and as we’ve seen over and over again, they’re gonna be a pain in the ass when we get there. Would be nice to finally shovel dirt on them. But Riley’s deal with Satan is still in effect.

No deal with Satan required: Jimmy, Bam and Herro are good players, they're well-coached, and they can always find role players to fill in the cracks.

Big thing is after a slow start, Jimmy is picking it up again. As long as he’s good, the Heat are too.
Jimmy has spent his entire career as a mediocre to bad 3 point shooter (and made about half a 3 per game since going to Miami), but suddenly he's averaging 48% from 3 and hitting over 1 a game? That won't last. His 2p% is the lowest it's been since he was a Bull and his FTR and assists are solidly down from last year. Miami has also had one of the easiest schedules in the league (they've won 7 straight but the only win against a team over .500 in that stretch was the Lakers, who are 1 game above .500). They weren't going to be terrible (unfortunately), but I still seeing them finishing in about the same spot as last year (trying to avoid the play in games).

And Chet misses a bunny to take the lead and then Wiggins makes another three with 1.6 seconds left to put the Warriors up by three.

And Chet ties it at the buzzer! Going to OT.
