Because Ime royally screwed up the possession earlier by not having Tatum foul Holiday as the shot clock was running down. Ime has been incredible this year but that miscue was high school JV level stuff.Almost 5 seconds and a timeout left, why did smart miss the free throw on purpose?

This. Could have used the foul to give on the possession before that too when Giannis made a layup with about 50 seconds to go.Because Ime royally screwed up the possession earlier by not having Tatum foul Holiday as the shot clock was running down. Ime has been incredible this year but that miscue was high school JV level stuff.
It didn't work out, but I don't hate having Holiday go 1v1 with Tatum as the clock winds down. Anything that gets the ball out of Giannis' hands (and doesn't give up an open 3) works for me in that situation, plus fouling Holiday resets the shot clock to 14. Tatum couldn't have fouled him with more than 18 seconds left on the game clock - Milwaukee could've bled the shot clock all the way down to <5 seconds before getting the shot up.Because Ime royally screwed up the possession earlier by not having Tatum foul Holiday as the shot clock was running down. Celts down by one and you want to give the bucks more time? How is that a good idea?Because Ime royally screwed up the possession earlier by not having Tatum foul Holiday as the shot clock was running down. Ime has been incredible this year but that miscue was high school JV level stuff.
Ja, Poole. or Kuminga?America's casual sports fans are going to get an opportunity to find out about the next NBA superstar tonight.
After I posted, I knew I grooved one right down the middle of the plate to you. Meanwhile, my answer to your question is a resounding "yes!"Ja, Poole. or Kuminga?
Poole isn't fair. The Celtics need to put Nesmith in the same Dragon Ball Z style hyperbolic chamber that the Warriors put him in.Ja, Poole. or Kuminga?
Ja tweeted about it with a shot at Kerr and deleted it. I don't think it was unfair for him to say based on Kerr's reaction during and post game 2, but his call on that.Poole might well be suspended next game, this is super-dirty:

Holiday took the shot with 11 seconds left, if they foul with the clock running down then they have to foul again and put the Bucks on the line, that would have been insanely terrible. You an argue they should have fouled immediately, just to get that foul out of the way, but it would have made no sense to foul after the first second or two.Because Ime royally screwed up the possession earlier by not having Tatum foul Holiday as the shot clock was running down. Yeah I forgot the rule change a few years ago where the clock resets to 14 on the foul.Holiday took the shot with 11 seconds left, if they foul with the clock running down then they have to foul again and put the Bucks on the line, that would have been insanely terrible. You an argue they should have fouled immediately, just to get that foul out of the way, but it would have made no sense to foul after the first second or two.
I see no angle where an objective oberver could conclude that grabbing a guys knee and twisting it is not dirty. The initial touch one could (though I would not) argue is just incidental and maybe that he was trying for the ball though even there, he's reaching way across and low and not actually close to the ball). But the yank which comes after that is just not defensible---what is you think is clean that involves yanking on the body there? There's no rub and tug exception in NBA games! Once you're yanking on a body part you're into unclean territory by definition.Poole playoff career (in 269 total minutes): 25.0 pts per 36 on .706 true shooting .
Stretches last night where he and Ja — both still 22! — were completely unguardable. I think they’re now #1 and #2 in a 2019 redraft. I could see Garland over JP as he’s more of a true PG; and of course most GMs would still probably opt for Zion’s tantalizing upside. But Garland’s size and Zion’s weight/durability questions knock them down to #3-4 on my list.
Anyway, here’s hoping Ja’s okay, as the series instantly kinda sucks without him. Fwiw, I don’t think the play in question was malicious or dirty. Poole doesn’t roll like that: other angles of the play don’t make the “yank” look nearly as bad; and there’s a good chance it wasn’t even the play on which Ja was injured.

I can’t recall the last time I saw an incidental pull of a guy’s knee like that. That’s not quite like an elbow or shoulder they accidentally hits a guy in the face.Poole playoff career (in 269 total minutes): 25.0 pts per 36 on .706 true shooting .

You are completely blinded on the Ja knee grab. That play was completely unnecessary and dirty. Who knows if it caused the knee issue but that play itself cannot be defended.Poole playoff career (in 269 total minutes): 25.0 pts per 36 on .706 true shooting .

Phoenix is getting jobbed like I’ve never seen to this degree to start this game. Doncic sold a T on Booker and Paul’s 2nd foul then the ref inbounds the ball while Crowder is laying on the floor injured that results in a 5-on-4 uncontested 3.Phoenix should have challenged that
Eh, I think it was pretty garden-variety situation: Poole and Wiggs blitz-double-teamed, Ja and were able to jar the ball loose for a moment: but Ja recovered and started regaining control, so Poole’s defensive instinct was to pull him away from the ball for a split second so Wiggs could secure it. Type of stuff you see in scrums ALL the time, if you slow down the film that much. On other angles you can see he didn’t really “grab” the knee at all — he just had his hand on it.You are completely blinded on the Ja knee grab. That play was completely unnecessary and dirty. Some of the CP3 things I don't mind, but I've always hated the run into the path of a defender thing on the break. I'm glad they stopped it this year.Wow I’m never one to cite officials agendas but when you are actively trying to find ways to get CP3 his 5th foul on top of all the other stuff that’s going on with their whistle it sure does make you wonder. This HAS to be overturned on review.
Edit:I understand the emphasis but Javie’s explanation isn’t what I saw. Oh well. Good call I guess.
He used to come to complete stop and get run over which I get and is now an offensive foul. If you watch this play he never stopped or really even slowed down but simply went to dribble toward the center of the court prior to being run over while still running forward. If this were anyone other than the player who caused the rule change the foul is on Brunson. I’m convinced of this on that particular play. Some of the CP3 things I don't mind, but I've always hated the run into the path of a defender thing on the break. I'm glad they stopped it this year.
This is so strange to read after your take on officiating in the Milwaukee series. Is it because of money you have on the games?Phoenix is getting jobbed like I’ve never seen to this degree to start this game. Edit: Now Ayton is called for an offensive goaltending call on a ball he didn’t appear to touch but even if he did the ball was already off the rim. This is crazy
Edit2: Followed by the always emphasized 3-second call on the Suns next possession.
I did and wasn’t as convinced as you or him. This opinion is in the minority.Eh, I think it was pretty garden-variety situation: Poole and Wiggs blitz-double-teamed, Ja and were able the ball loose for a moment: but Ja recovered and started regaining control, so Poole’s defensive instinct was to pull him away from the ball for a split second so Wiggs could secure it. Anyway, watch the vid — Dr. Sutterer is a pretty insightful and respected sports doctor, with no history of being a homer for specific teams. He shows the other angles, and doesn’t think it was a dirty play at all.
No, I watch as unbiased as possible. I bet both Boston and Phoenix in these games you mentioned but saw the officiating much differently. The Suns game was ridiculously one-sided from my view whereas the Celtics game there were a ton of missed calls on both sides and stretches where the Bucks were getting the short end. This is so strange to read after your take on officiating in the Milwaukee series. The officiating in the Bos-Mil series is equally bad for both teams, with the exception of calls involving Giannis, where it is terrible in one direction. He must be the most difficult guy to officiate since Shaq, but the NBA also creates the problem by changing the standard for him. And then not even being consistent on that standard. Do they want guys flopping in the lane on the off—and only—chance they’ll get a call? Seems to me that’s the last thing fans want. It also creates a lot of injury risks for defenders and Giannis. No, I watch as unbiased as possible. Agreed that Giannis is now on prime Shaq/ LeBron level of difficulty to officiate. Having said that there were many plays that could have sent Giannis to the line last night where the ref swallowed his whistle as well. These were overshadowed by a couple really bad ones for the Celtics on Giannis like when he ran through Grant in the lane without the ball. The officiating in the Bos-Mil series is equally bad for both teams, with the exception of calls involving Giannis, where it is terrible in one direction. Well, when you tell a coach "it's not a foul unless you fall down," that's problematic on many levels.Agreed that Giannis is now on prime Shaq/ LeBron level of difficulty to officiate. These conversations are standard at college and up. I’ve heard much worse including refs tell a player that it had to have been a foul on him bc he can’t make that play. There are so many assumptions that high level refs must have in place with the speed/quickness of these games.Well, when you tell a coach "it's not a foul unless you fall down," that's problematic on many levels.
He’s definitely “Trending” tonight.Danny Green is turning back the clock, wow!
Please, please, please supermax him, Morey. Don't let the haters get to you!Harden is so slow now
