Yeah, agreed on all counts. It's an important game for Coastal Carolina too -- a win over UVA would have gone a long way to bolster their resume for the access bowl spot.I'd be stunned if they played this week. Wouldn't be surprised if they suspended their season.
Again NOT the biggest issue but this is a football thread
I think they recognized it, but are terribly afraid of lawsuits at this point. Until (and if) athletes are formally acknowledged as student-employees, it is going to be hard to put restrictions on player movement.I wonder if the suits recognized the downside of implanting a transfer portal under these present guidelines. Spencer Sanders next to move on and surely many others to follow.
Good question. I know that if he didn't get signed elsewhere, he'd have to request his old school that they let him back. I'm not sure if in the meanwhile he's out truly in no-man's land, or if it's a case where the school has to honor his scholarship, but the coach doesn't have to let him back on the team (which would mean he won't play football but his education would still be paid for). When a player, football in this case, enters the portal does he automatically lose his scholarship for the present school?
It’s not as if Cade Klubnik had lit it up in any of his appearances before facing UNC’s wretched defense. Dabo’s biggest flaw was refusing to bring in any outside voices and rolling out an inexperienced offensive staff last season. I’ll be really interested to see if DJ can have a bounce back season away from that QB room.Well that didn’t take long.

Clemson’s QB5 hits the transfer portal less than 48 hours after getting benched. Dabo should give back salary for sticking with (and defending) Uiagalelei throughout the season.
Don’t worry, Jordan Travis will be worthy and unanimous next year.Da fuq? Dugan and Stroud over Bijan? What are they smoking
Caleb may get the largest 1st place votes in history
Absolutely. One of the bigger Heisman snubs, ever.Bijan Robinson wins Doak Walker award. Fourth Longhorn winner (Ricky, Ced, D’onta Foreman).
We’ll miss you Bijan. Hook ‘em.
Especially over that stiff Stetson BennettAbsolutely. One of the bigger Heisman snubs, ever.
The remaining football members of the Atlantic Sun and WAC have agreed to align to form the foundation of a 10-member football-only conference, sources told ESPN, with the intention of becoming the 11th FBS conference.
Sources said the founding documents for the league state the group intends to move "from what is currently known as FCS football to what is currently known as FBS football at the earliest practicable date."
The schools that have signed on to join the league are WAC football members Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian, Utah Tech, Southern Utah and Tarleton State and Atlantic Sun football members Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas and North Alabama.
UT Rio Grande Valley, which recently announced it is starting a program, is also expected to join in 2025, in that program's first season, as the league's 10th member.
Looks like he has passed. RIP.Apparently, heading into hospice care. Just crazy sad:

Head football coaches as a whole are humorless, ornery, and boring. Mike Leach broke the mold when he came all the way from Iowa Wesleyan to the power five. Of course, he wasn't perfect; ornery would probably describe him too. He often feuded with players and just last week an MSU player said Leach effectively ran him off the team.RIP. Sad stuff. He was his own man in a land of grab ass conformity.
STARKVILLE -- Mississippi State University Head Football Coach Michael Charles "Mike" Leach passed away last night (Monday, Dec. 12) at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, following complications from a heart condition. He was 61.Apparently, heading into hospice care. Just crazy sad:

Well said.Head football coaches as a whole are humorless, ornery, and boring. Mike Leach broke the mold when he came all the way from Iowa Wesleyan to the power five. Of course, he wasn't perfect; ornery would probably describe him too. He often feuded with players and just last week an MSU player said Leach effectively ran him off the team.
He made the sport of college football far more interesting and I'm going to miss him. I don't think it's overstatement to say he changed the sport for the better and forever.
He admitted to be battling pneumonia all season.I saw a lot of chatter on SECRant this year about him not being in good health and not looking good. Sad that it turned out to be true. Leech was an innovator and interesting person to say the least.
Strongly second this recommendation. In fact, all of SC Gwynne's history books are great, imo. But only this one features Mike Leach doing battle with college Directors of Communication.I think someone on here recommended The Perfect Pass once. It's a good read, telling the story of Leach and Hal Mumme developing the air raid.
I must have missed that, I only watched one Miss State game all year and that was the Egg Bowl.He admitted to be battling pneumonia all season.

And re his reportedly lousy health this fall, I hope it's not in too bad taste to laugh at this right now--the first 11 minutes or so of this Le Batard podcast from a month ago yukking it up at Leach's coughing and throat-clearing is really funny. RIP to one of the unique ones.
