I think they are waiting on Brady as well. So, are they going to announce punishment the day of the draft or something?
They're waiting to see if Belichick makes any trades so that they know which first rounder to steal. So, are they going to announce punishment the day of the draft or something?
At this point, I'd assume they would just defer the lost pick to next year or something. If the NEP may be docked a pick, and with the draft beginning next week, wouldn't one think an announcement on punishment is imminent?
It would be kind of shitty of the league to make a last-minute announcement on punishment and dock a pick 24-48 hours before the draft, even if it is in round 5-7. I have to think the front office has already been informed if that's the case and the league is holding off on a formal announcement due to COVID-19 related issues.
I mean, how is that humanly possible? There is literally no way that they've been investigating this the whole time. None.
Definitely #3It's really strange.
I can't really even follow what the scenarios might be.
Let's say, just for sake of argument, they are going full-Goodell and trying to stick it to the Pats as much as possible. The reason to wait this long would be, what, gathering evidence and waiting for Ted Wells to come up with a report "proving" Goodell's mandate that the Pats cheated in every super bowl, stole Rosebud, and killed JFK? It just wouldn't take Ted Wells this long to create the report.
Let's say, to go the other way, imagine that Goodell (in a radical change of his MO) hired an honest investigator to assess what truly occurred. That person would interview the video team, interview a bunch of current and perhaps recent former Pats ops employees, and then skulk around Foxboro and try to figure out who said what to whom. Even if you wanted to turn over every rock, it's getting to be a long time for an internal investigation.
A third possibility, and I guess the most likely one: the discussion at the NFL is as simple as "this looks like an innocent screw up, but against the context of a team we don't trust so we wonder what really happened. What do we do?" And what has been going on is Goodell and his minions working through league stakeholders to assess fallout from a really stiff penalty versus a really light one. To placate the Ravens contingent it has to feel like they turned over every stone; to placate Kraft, it has to be somewhat tied to reality and evidence. They are stuck right now with a gap between what they believe might be and what they can prove, and they are stuck between owners in each camp pushing.
Fourth possibility is that the NFL is hoping that this will go away. It's really strange.

It seems weird that the NFL would schedule an announcement on Jay Glazer's show. It also doesn't seem like if he had a major scoop for tomorrow's show it would survive that long without someone else breaking it. If the NFL thought that Glazer had it like that, they'd announce it.Jay Glazer is teasing a " Major Announcement " coming up on Thursday night on his Fox Football Now Show. Considering that he was the reporter who broke the original story, do you think the Pats punishment could be that announcement? It seems unfathomable that the NFL has not released their findings yet. The bettors should take action on which report will be released first : the Scoutgate Report or the Red Sox sign stealing report.

I’m starting to think this is it. The draft has come and gone, absent a BB suspension, what’s left? Are they really going to wait for the 2021 draft to punish them for something that happened in December of 2019? I suppose a truly paranoid Pats fan could think that league realizes there’s a pretty good chance their first round pick next year will be a much higher one, so they’re waiting for when they can really put the screws to them. I know their past history gives them little benefit of the doubt(meaning Goodell and Co.), but that seems like a reach even for them.Fourth possibility is that the NFL is hoping that this will go away.
They could have fined them and taken away a 6th months ago and it would have gone away by nowFourth possibility is that the NFL is hoping that this will go away.
They don't want Trevor Lawrence in NE!!!I’m starting to think this is it. The draft has come and gone, absent a BB suspension, what’s left? Are they really going to wait for the 2021 draft to punish them for something that happened in December of 2019
If there is no NFL season in 2020, and the order of the 2021 draft is determined by a lottery, and the Patriots somehow win that lottery...They don't want Trevor Lawrence in NE!!!
Someone on twitter said they should do an auction draft. If there is no NFL season in 2020, and the order of the 2021 draft is determined by a lottery, and the Patriots somehow win that lottery...
Why hasn't anybody asked Jay Glazer about it? Way back in November, he was the one who basically broke the story wide open with his releasing of the audiotape. With his inside sources, you would think he would be all over this.. You know it's almost like the NFL is trying to bury the story. (Shocker you know). If the NFL had the goods on the Pats, no doubt they would have punished the Pats severely by now. It's frustrating as a Pats fan because you would like the Pats to be cleared. Can’t believe this is still a thing we are waiting to find out what the NFL is going to do.
No, the standard is "what does Goodell want done for his own political or personal reasons" This process has nothing to do with truth, evidence or fairness. Whether or not any actual evidence emerges is wholly irrelevant to the conclusions or the process. If the standard is "We haven't found anything, but something might emerge at a later date," then how could the NFL bring any investigation to a close?
Hire Ted Wells. If the standard is "We haven't found anything, but something might emerge at a later date," then how could the NFL bring any investigation to a close?
A third round pick is not nothing. It's once again ridiculous overreaction to something that would be completely ignored if it involved any other team. It's whatever at this point. That is more or less a slap on the wrist all things considered. I imagine Patriots fans will be angered by it and fans of other teams will think the NFL didn't go far enough for a repeat offender. We're on to Cam Newton.
About 0.5 Lombardis worth. Is there a list of how many draft picks teams have been fined the last 15 years?
What you actually need is the all times teams have been nailed for multiple violations (of often the same rule) and they never get these absurd “repeat offender” tag ons.Is there a list of how many draft picks teams have been fined the last 15 years?
yup, seahawks were literally fined 3 times for the exact same thing, and the 3rd time they lost a whole 5th round pickWhat you actually need is the all times teams have been nailed for multiple violations (of often the same rule) and they never get these absurd “repeat offender” tag ons.
Looking at Ravens and Seahawks as examples of top of my head on practice rule violations as an example.
