What about PAT % ?It actually is fascinating watching NFL kickers just fall apart this year. Their performance through the first 8 weeks is the worst we've seen since 2002, though the average distance of the attempts is up around 1.5 yards per kick since then. But it's bad - 80.4% this year compared to 84.9% last year over the same time period, and because we're through half the season, they've blown through any confidence intervals I've examined to see if this is fluky. It isn't. Kickers this year are not good.
Yeah, my first thought was if they changed something with the balls. Tried some googling and couldn't find anything, but maybe they are using different K-balls this year?Did they raise the stitches?
95.2% this year, 95.2% through Week 8 last year. Inaccuracy from distance continues to look like the culprit. What about PAT % ?
I think Sanu is the closer type to Boldin than Harry, at least this year. How they use both Harry and Sanu by the end of the year will be interesting. My guess is Harry is more outside and Sanu is more slot. That's not exactly going out on a limb though.I’m really excited to see what Harry can add. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t look at least a little out of sorts given that he’s a rookie and has missed a ton of time. But the idea that Brady might have a Boldin-esque wideout to throw it to is enticing.
I'm wondering who gets released to make room. Kessler? Or, were they at 52 with the release of Tomlinson?Harry officially activated.
They were at 52. They will need to make another move to activate Wynn in a couple weeks though.I'm wondering who gets released to make room. Kessler? Or, were they at 52 with the release of Tomlinson?
Looks like somebody may be lurking in these parts... from Volin’s column today:From 50+ this year, kickers are 40/75, 53.3%. Last year at this time they were 52/78, 66.7%. That difference is really the most meaningful one. If NFL kickers were making 50+ yard kicks at the same rate as last year, we're looking at a 20% chance that this is due to random luck, rather than just a 3% chance that it's because of luck. Kickers have been horrible from distance. They still have been worse from under 40 yards - 92.3% this year compared to 95.9% in 2018, but correcting for that discrepancy would only result in an extra 5 kicks being made, which keeps us at just a 7% chance kickers are worse because of random luck. It is the suck from distance that has mattered this year.
An interesting trend has developed — teams can’t kick field goals anymore. The league-wide success rate through eight weeks was 80.3 percent, the lowest since 2003 (79.2 percent). The success rate was at least 84 percent in every year from 2013-18, with a high of 86.5 percent in 2013.
Accuracy from 20-39 yards and extra points are right in line with past numbers, but long-distance field goal numbers are at their lowest success rates of the past decade. Kickers are only making 71.5 percent of 40-49-yard kicks, down from 76.2 percent last year and 83.0 percent in 2013. And kickers are making just 53.3 percent of 50-plus-yard kicks, down from 63.8 percent last year and 69.5 percent in 2017.
There are SoSH posters with "Gronk's Back" thread-starters already set to go ... just so they can post it firstRapsheet probably had this non-story ready for a Sunday he didn’t have anything to report.
You wouldn't expect us to dismantle our respective shrines prematurely, would you? There are SoSH posters with "Gronk's Back" thread-starters already set to go ... just so they can post it first
Mine actually is "He's in Robert's Box"....oh wait is that too soon? There are SoSH posters with "Gronk's Back" thread-starters already set to go ... just so they can post it first
You know how they say to somebody who is overweight but doesn’t know when the next meal is going to be “don’t worry, you can live off the land for awhile.” Well, maybe Gronk is the opposite, so ripped and so disciplined in what he eats that it doesn’t take him as long as the average football player to get back. For that to happen, he'd have to begin working out intensely now, if not prior to now. We'd see some rumors of it in his twitter or various other entourage.
Not worth speculating on until there's at least smoke, if not fire. Possibilities of wisps along the horizon aren't worth mental cycles.
The Pats' first playoff game is likely to be Saturday January 11th or Sunday January 12th. Exactly two months away. Plenty of time.he's been quoted multiple times as saying it would take him a month to get NFL game-ready from this point.
wiffleballhero might not even read your posthe needs to be activated for week 14 to be eligible for the playoffs.
This has been covered like half a dozen times in the Gronk threads. Do people even read this forum, or just post whatever their heart's desire would be? Nevermind, I know the answer.
Activated sure but he doesn't have to play. I could envision two healthy scratches while he gets up to speed/weight.he needs to be activated for week 14 to be eligible for the playoffs.

But only for the Super BowlI’m so excited that Gronk is coming back!
The NFL CBA has no specific language on CBD: "NFL: No specific CBD policy or language, per the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, but the NFL disciplines any player with more than 35 ng/ml of Delta 9-THC-carboxylic acid that shows up on a drug test by first putting them through a three-stage drug treatment program. Any violations made are subject to fines or suspensions based on whether the violation was committed in Stage Two or Stage Three and if a violation or violations were previously committed within those two stages."Isn't the elephant in the room Gronk's CBD usage? Like Ben Watson, if the retirement papers haven't been filed - isn't he subject to league mandated testing? It seems to me that he's got a 4 game suspension staring him in the face if he does come back. No need to announce it because he's retired. Or if he doesn't have a failed test already, can he pass one before being brought back in? (How long before his CBD product clears his system?) All these hypothetical calculations are flying around, and no one is talking to either of these possibilities. His public advocacy for the company/product guarantees the NFL tests him. I didn't seem him coming back (but hoped), but now I don't see it as possible even if the team asked.
CBD can be hemp-derived. Does hemp = marijuana for NBA purposes?Interestingly the NBA does technically outlaw CBD as its CBA's language is "Marijuana and it's by-products"
Thanks for the info - so is it the thinking that Gronk has no prior testing offenses so if he didn't clear the teat he'd be a stage one case and able to play as soon as he/the team thought he was ready to go?The NFL CBA has no specific language on CBD: "NFL: No specific CBD policy or language, per the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, but the NFL disciplines any player with more than 35 ng/ml of Delta 9-THC-carboxylic acid that shows up on a drug test by first putting them through a three-stage drug treatment program. If he's going to play, they don't have a choice, right? Because of the bye they have to activate by tomorrow. Unless the 21 days gets extended because of a bye, which maybe it does.
Probably one of the other linemen that don't play like Cunningham or even Newhouse. If he's going to play, they don't have a choice, right? Because of the bye they have to activate by tomorrow. Unless the 21 days gets extended because of a bye, which maybe it does.
Who gives way on the roster? Kessler?

So who gives way on the roster? Kessler?
I can't believe they would cut Newhouse. They have nothing at backup for left tackle if they do that. Also, the guy has played 9 games out of his favored side under Dante in the system and may very well be a significant depth piece once he moves back to the right. There are plenty of guys in the NFL that play relatively better on the right than the left I think.Probably one of the other linemen that don't play like Cunningham or even Newhouse.

They won yesterday with him catching 2 passes for 4 yards. The only “we’re screwed if injured” guys are Brady and Edelman. I have no idea how we’d ever get a first down if Jules missed time.Totally. I'd just about be in favor of fair-catching everything rather than risk a Sanu injury. If he goes down, we're screwed.
We basically didn’t after he got hurt against the Jets. They won yesterday with him catching 2 passes for 4 yards. The only “we’re screwed if injured” guys are Brady and Edelman. I have no idea how we’d ever get a first down if Jules missed time.
Football coaches never coach in fear of a player getting injured. Those that do don't last long in the NFL.Maybe wrong thread, but does watching Sanu receive punts make anyone else nervous? Nervous because of the possibility of injury.
