Felger: Is it possible for a player to be released, and then not be released?Shrodinger's roster spot
Agree 100%. I was on the Crossen bandwagon.Happy for Gunner but I thought Crossen had the makings of a really good NFL player. It sure how I feel about that move.
Me too, but if they think he can be the future replacement for Edelman and he won't make it to PS then you do what you have to do.Agree 100%. I was on the Crossen bandwagon.
Agreed. But now they’re stacked at DB...though now they don’t have Crossen or Dawson. So...thinner. But still lots of quality players in the secondary. Like what Gunner brings. Just hate seeing Crossen emerge...with another team.Very happy "The Gun Show" (as McC calls him) made the team.
If this was, say, 2010 then Crossen makes the team (over someone like Terrence Wheatley) and Gunner does not.
Paying him $70,000 a week for sitting on the sidelines? If it was a health reason, what was the downside of keeping DT on PUP for the first 6 games?
Doesn't sound like a lot of money if he returns to the receiver he was pre-injury. Sounds like they thought he's done.Paying him $70,000 a week for sitting on the sidelines?
Wow. "Beaten out by UDFAs Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski" is a sad coda to DT's career, if this is the endStunner

Source: The #Patriots are releasing WR Demaryius Thomas, who flashed in the fourth preseason game. He’s still working his way back to health.
Or they'd rather use a roster spot on someone else at another position and as a vested vet he's not subject to waivers so if no interest they can sign him after Week 1 and his salary is non-guaranteed.Doesn't sound like a lot of money if he returns to the receiver he was pre-injury. You mean we should slow down with the hot takes? Never.

Yes. So the hot takes about Thomas were hot.
They don't have to wait until after Week 1 but if they did his salary is all non-guaranteed. They can bring him back whenever they want. Can they bring him back "as soon as Monday"? Dont they have to wait till after week 1?
I believe they can do it either way, but the salary is guaranteed if he's signed week 1Can they bring him back "as soon as Monday"? Dont they have to wait till after week 1?
Ah, thanks! They don't have to wait until after Week 1 but if they did his salary is all non-guaranteed. They can bring him back whenever they want.
According to ESPN's Todd Archer: if teams want to place a player on returnable IR, that player has to be on the 53-man roster for a day.Can they bring him back "as soon as Monday"? Dont they have to wait till after week 1?
Around these parts, we refer to this roster spot as the "Designated Ross Ventrone"Shrodinger's roster spot
Those are not the cuts you are looking forCan't help but notice a lack of Obi news today.
Right. I think this is the plan for DT. Saves a roster spot if they keep a player on the 53-man today (say, Froholdt) and then immediately R-IR him, then re-sign Thomas. It's a nice little way to stash a player you want in the organization, assuming the player you're cutting is on board with the plan.According to ESPN's Todd Archer: if teams want to place a player on returnable IR, that player has to be on the 53-man roster for a day.
So someone like Froholdt could be on the roster Sunday and on returnable IR on Monday.
WInder if this means K’Neal is going on IR.
