Its officially Masters week!
Best sports week of the year, in my book, highlighted by the Masters
Saturday is a pretty epic sports day. Sox at 1, Bruins and Masters at 3, Celtics at 6, NCAA Frozen Four Championship at night. I'm sure I'm missing something else too.
Thursday has Sox and Masters in the afternoon, B's & C's at night
Been a few years(2013, won by Adam Scott on the 2nd sudden death playoff hole) since The Masters has come down to the final hole.
Last year was crazy, of course. Spieth was walking away with it and then he dumped a few balls in the water and Willet ran away with it. But it was never close at the end. Still, I'm hoping for a tight finish, nothing better than a back nine battle at Augusta.
Weather Thu-Fri is cold and damp, weekend looking better so far, best weather Sunday afternoon.
Have a feeling a 63 is in the cards.
Favorite week of the year.
Edit: Nantz already has a rock hard boner thinking about Phil winning this at age 46.
I've bought one ringtone in my life - The Masters Theme. Time to switch it on!
Some odds I saw this morning...top 5 favorites...
Rahm and Mickelson- 18/1
I'm on an 11:00 train to NY on Sunday. Because life hates me.
Well TV coverage doesn't start until 2 so you should be golden.
And the leaders don't start until around 3pm. Nap needs to tighten up.
Masters pool this year?
I'm in a 4 majors pool-pick 4 guys per major, can't use same guy twice. Payouts for each tourney plus the overall. $100 per entry. I think last year we had like 80-90 people. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll forward you the email link.
Well that's better then. Should be at hotel 3-3:30ish so will have a few hours to watch before dinner. Better than nothing I suppose.
If you have to leave for dinner before it's over, that hurts. You have to move the dinner to 8pm.
Willett's champions dinner menu...
Is it Thursday yet?
Unfortunately, no. It is Tuesday.
What is wrong with the British?
Good read on how the contenders match up with the course.
If anybody's going Augusta is probably going to get wrecked by severe weather tomorrow after getting wrecked yesterday too. If nothing else, the course is going to be soft and slow.
I'm an idiot.
Windy first two days, though. Should be interesting to what extent the strong winds and soft greens cancel each other out.
This was great, thanks for posting. I love these, even though you have to take the majority of it with a grain of salt.
Those are last years tee times. DeChambeau isn't in the field.
Here are the tee time for Thursday:
Last group of the day is Bubba/DJ/Walker.
I think the 9:39 group of Molinari, Berger, and Pieters could be an interesting group
Thursday featured groups...
9:06: Zach Johnson, Oosthuizen, Hadwin
9:28: Scott, Kisner, Sullivan
TV coverage is at 3.
I hate the tv coverage for these things
Any good sleeper picks?
My long long shot is Rafa Cabrera Bello
I'm a fan of Bello. His +7 last week killed my DraftKings team. Vegas has him at 135/1 to win this week, and 7/2 to make the top 20.
I relate. I head up a group "Sons of Hootie Johnson" and the entire board only covers everyone's frustration with the TV coverage. Or lack thereof. Players tee off tomorrow at 8am. Actual TV coverage begins at 3pm.
Somewhat off topic, but as Golf Channel is blending them. The Nickalus documentary starts Sunday night, with Selleck narrating. Hard to believe Tom Selleck is only 5 years younger than Jack. Seems more like it was 15-20
they are going to cancel the par 3 contest, aren't they?
They are apparently reopening the course in a couple minutes. Looking at the radar they might get 5 hours of not thunder, but of course they could start to bubble up at any time, as the is still activity 60 miles west, but that is headed north
Augusta is in a high risk of severe weather the rest of the day - could be damaging tornadoes or any other mode of it.
They have closed the course for the rest of the day. So no par 3 contest.
Just watching the Tiger special from 1997, and I definitely didn't remember he was paired with Azinger in the second round, and not Faldo again. I assume they repaired after round one back then? When did this end?
Well this is interesting.
Pro athletes get injured in such stupid ways
Well that sucks.
He does have the last tee time tomorrow, so plenty of time to get any treatment.
Once again Canada is kicking our asses...
GOLF FANS: for 2nd straight year, we have 4 hours of early bonus coverage from The Masters. We're on at 11am et until 3pm
TSN 1-Amen Corner
TSN 3-Holes 15,16
TSN 5-two feature groups
TSN 4-we'll jump between all 3 feeds plus features and analysis
Got in a pool. Pick 1 from 6 tiers. Top 4 count.
Forecast is cold and windy today. Temps top out in the low 70's and 20-30 mph wind with gusts that could go up to 40 mph.
Let's get this thing started. Giddy up.
Edit: here are the pin placements
I assume you're saying 40mph gusts are possible. That's legit insane.
I would think 40 mph gusts will cause oscillation on the greens, at a minimum, and might mean a delay. Sunset in Augusta is at 7:52 - will the final groups finish today?
Meanwhile, I am pretty sure DJ pulls it together to play today, but it made me switch up my DraftKings picks anyway - can't risk spending top dollar on someone who may WD. Real question is what does "falling on the stairs" really mean?
Absolutely. I'm getting a "Tiger on Thanksgiving" vibe from this story. DJ is a legitimately awesome athlete, with strong legs and impeccable balance, it's hard to see him falling down the stairs in any situation.
Pouring rain may have been a factor. Slippery stairs in an unfamiliar house. I don't think it's too far-fetched
Low 70s is cold?
