2014 Michigan Football: Dammit Jim, we need a Harbaugh. And a miracle worker.

I'm curious to hear what Blue fans think of DeWeaver's recent de-commit.  I don't see that he has yet announced a commitment elsewhere.
I wish him luck. Hoke made a big mistake at QB by treating Morris as though he had the starting job locked up for 3 years. Harbaugh understands both the importance of the position and the fact that there are no sure things. He'll recruit ~2 QBs per class. If the threat of competition means a guy doesn't want to come, then he's better off someplace else.

DeWeaver doesn't strike me as a QB with a standout tool.  Seems "good" at several things, not "great" at any (maybe speed?).  When Gentry committed, that put two QBs (along with Malzone) in the incoming class, with Morris and Speight already on the roster.  Still a year away, but DeWeaver profiles below each of those guys.

(Bellomy is also transferring, by the way.)

Gentry and Speight are the giants (with mobility), Morris has the rocket arm (but ten cent head), and Malzone has the moxie/intangibles/leadership ability.

Good luck to DeWeaver... Ohio (not tOSU) and one other school (name escapes me at the moment) have proclaimed interest.

Edit: JMHO

Whatever DeWeaver turns out to be, is anyone worried about Harbaugh being able to bring in a steady stream of talented QBs?

Think we'll be OK, although I do worry about next year at Q. Just too young, and I don't trust Morris.

Edit: on the other hand, if Morris plays next year and is productive, it's an amazing case study in the importance of coaching and matching scheme with talent.

Harbaugh flipped WSU commit Deontay Burnett, a three star prospect from Los Angeles. Lots of chatter about Michigan trending positively with Van Jefferson. Those would be two nice additions to the class.

Something weird happened between Burnett committing and him reaching Los Angeles. Lots of rumors. Long story short, Michigan isn't taking him. On the other hand, Michigan received the commitment of Brother Rice WR, Grant Perry. I think signing day is not going to be very fun.

I'm more optimistic. It's looking like Harbaugh may have flipped Van Jefferson from Ole Miss, and I still think we end up with Wheatley.

Welp, we didn't get Jefferson, but Wheatley did follow his dad to Ann Arbor. All in all, we should be fine and ready for a strong 2016 class.

Yeah, I followed along today and though I was disappointed the class wasn't earth-shattering (no Marshall, Smith, Weber), I think we're OK going forward. It's amazing how having Harbaugh makes recruiting seem less important. I have no doubt this team will be better next year and that JH could do fine with 3-stars. Starting next year though, he'll have his Jimmys and Joes to with his top-notch Xs and Os. With Brady, it felt like we did need the talent disparity to have a shot (and to Hoke's credit, he did deliver on bringing in talent).

It's good that:

(1) hoke recruited well (this is not like when richrod inherited a declining roster)

(2) this was a small class

Not a bad situation for harbaugh to face with an abbreviated recruiting window.
