Even more than that, the Jets entered Day 2 of that draft with Jacksonville, Philly, and Arizona all ahead of them in the second round - teams that all had crappy situations and might plausibly draft Geno - and yet were perfectly content to stand pat.Tony C said:To give Idzik a bit of credit, he didn't pick Smith in the 1st round so obviously didn't truly love him, A similar sign was given by signing Vick as a back-up.

Jets fans let wide receiver Eric Decker and his country-singer wife Jessie James Decker know they are not in Denver anymore.
Jessie James Decker got into a little Twitter war with Jets fans Thursday after they sarcastically responded to her husband’s question asking why people rooted for the team. He was bombarded with snarky answers, which prompted her to fire back.

This led to some angry responses to her, and she deactivated her Twitter account Thursday night. She had 382,000 followers on Twitter.

Four friends decided to create the site after listening to Idzik’s rambling news conference on Monday.
“We were so disgusted after the game on Sunday, that the last thing we wanted to hear was that ridiculous press conference,” said Jason Koeppel, one of the site’s creators.
Koeppel, along with his brother Jared and friends Matthew Wolferman and Greg Kohler called each other after Idzik’s rambling comments Monday and decided to put this site together.
The site is soliciting donations so they can put up a “Fire John Idzik” billboard near MetLife Stadium. Fans who donate a certain amount get a T-shirt with a logo. Koeppel, a 35-year-old season-ticket holder from Hackensack, N.J., said it will cost around $10,000 to buy the billboard. The site had raised around $500 in the first 24 hours.
Buster Olney the Lonely said:I can't take any joy in this initiative. Idzik is inept, yet I sort of feel bad for the guy.
Plus, I really really want him around for a few more years.
Slow Rheal said:$3510, this is awesome! The billboard should be open for business in time for next week's PIT matchup.
Super Nomario said:I don't think Carr's safe, depending on how the rest of the season unfolds. Oakland is 24th in comp%, 31st in Y/A, 29th in QB rating. If Oakland continues to play poorly enough that the Raiders have the #1 overall pick, they could go right back to the QB well, a la the 2011 Panthers. Obviously that's especially true if McKenzie gets the axe.
I don't disagree - and the receiving corps is pretty weak, too. This is a problem that a lot of these teams with crappy offenses run into - do you try to fix QB first or fix everything else? Can you even evaluate the QB position if the rest of the O is garbage? Ultimately, you can get value at other positions later, but top-flight QBs are rarely available outside the very top of the draft. If they think Mariota or Winston is the real deal, I don't think they can pass him up, even if he's likely to struggle right away with a lousy supporting cast.TomRicardo said:
Carr's problem is he has no offensive line. Getting another rookie QB doesn't fix that problem

I don't quite agree, but do hope you're right on this SN.
I tend to think Raiders' lack of skill players outside of Carr hurts him badly (as well as the OL), but more teams in the pot for Mariota the merrier.
Plus, 2015 FA QB class is not exactly earth shattering:

45 years of woulda, coulda, shoulda, mighta, Rich Kotite, Mark Gastineau roughing the passer, Don Shula not covering the field the night before the AFCCG as a monsoon approaches, stealing Parcells away from New England and losing the AFCCG to Denver, Testaverde blowing out his Achilles the year after when the whole world penciled them into the Super Bowl, having their field goal kicker miss a chip shot vs the Steelers that would have put them in the AFCCG vs New England, back to back AFCCG losses and the Butt Fumble will do that to a fan base.simplyeric said:

I hope Pats fans don't turn on the team some years down the road when we're wandering the desert.
Man, totally brutal.
Hoyer and the two guys in STL would make my list before no arm McCoy.SeoulSoxFan said:

The bolded seems backwards to me - QB is the most important position on the team. If they're not sold on Mariota or Winston, they shouldn't reach for him at the top of the draft, but if they do really like one of those guys they should go for it. Why end up where the Jets are this year, when your second-year QB hasn't taken a step forward and you've wasted a season?DanoooME said:
So pretty much every backup QB in the league is available? It will make for an interesting shuffle there.
I think the Raiders stick with Carr at least another season. Ricardo is right, they have too many other holes to fill to worry about QB right now.
But then again, some guy named Davis owns the team.
But then again again, if some guy runs a 4.28 in the combine, you KNOW that's their pick, no matter the position.
Tony C said:If that's the case, assuming they get the 1st pick wouldn't their best bet to trade the #1 overall to a club that can given them a bunch of picks/players? The Raiders have so many needs, and with the desperation of QB needy teams, that sort of trade seems like a no-brainer.

It's like running over a roadkill.NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday on NFL GameDay First that the Jets could go back to second-year passer Geno Smith as early as next week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, because it's clear that Vick is not the long-term solution at quarterback, per team sources.
I assume this just means they decided to go full 76ers, and Geno gives them the best shot to win the #1 pick.SeoulSoxFan said:

2. Dimitri Patterson, New York Jets cornerback: General manager John Idzik shot down Rex Ryan's wishes for Darrelle Revis, Vontae Davis and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, settling instead for journeyman Patterson as the top veteran in a cornerback-reliant scheme. Patterson went AWOL for a preseason game, was suspended by the team and subsequently released before ever seeing regular-season action. The Jets' patchwork secondary featured undrafted former North Dakota State star Marcus Williams as the No. 1 cornerback in his first career start last week.
7. Chris Johnson, New York Jets running back: For a few brief flashes in last week's game, Johnson and Michael Vick finally met Dan Hanzus' offseason hopes. It's more telling, though, that Johnson has spent the majority of the past month on the bench of a 1-8 team after being outplayed by Chris Ivory. Looking down the barrel of age 30, Johnson's starting days are over
Jets general manager John Idzik stocked up on draft picks for this year by loading up on compensatory picks and snagging one in the Darrelle Revis trade. It was clear Idzik was banking on the 2014 draft to be a huge part of his roster rebuild.
So far, it does not look good.
Now, four games is not enough to evaluate a draft class. But consider four of those 12 picks are no longer on the roster after the team cut Jalen Saunders on Monday. Two of those picks are on injured reserve. One of those picks was not good enough to make the active roster and is stashed on the practice squad (where Saunders may also end up).
That leaves you with five of the 12 draft picks actually playing this season. Of those five, only safety Calvin Pryor is starting, and he has had little impact so far. Tight end Jace Amaro is playing about 30 percent of the offensive snaps. Linebacker Trevor Reilly is a special-teams contributor who gets a few defensive snaps a game. Lineman Dakota Dozier and linebacker IK Enemkpali have been inactive for every game.
