Based on my survey of salary cap aficionados, general managers and other basketball ops workers, I believe the Warriors will still be getting a bargain if Looney re-signs this summer. The responses were remarkably consistent. Every person I asked listed a figure in the $3 million to $5 million range. Even if the aforementioned market forces make such an affordable deal understandable, anything in that range seems like a win for the Warriors. Factor in how Looney has shown recent flashes of a mid-range game and there’s even more reason to like a multi-year deal at those prices.
That’s one of the better deals in FA so far. I saw a report that his agent said the Celtics never even reached out to him, and I figured it was because they thought he’d be out of their price range. So unless he gave the Warriors a discount, seems like a inexplicable missed opportunity by Ainge.Just turned 23, 7-4 wingspanned switchable big, credible handles and jump shot (miles better than, say, Tristan Thompson ever had) #27 ranked player in the NBA by RPM, .636 true shooting last year (.704 in the playoffs). Was by far the Warriors best player last year outside of Hamptons Five.

3 years / $15M. GJGE, NBA GMs.
Quoting myself here, I guess, but wow. One year of Bobby Portis (or Terry Rozier) costs more than three years of Kevon Looney. Let that sink in for a minute. In a world where Bobby Portis can get $15.5M per year, what will Looney cost?
Nah. It's all good. We got Kanter. That’s one of the better deals in FA so far. Well, the Celtics would have been able to offer at most roughly the same deal. It’s not that surprising that, faced with roughly similar deals, he would have chosen to stay with what he knows. That’s one of the better deals in FA so far. Give his agent a call is all I’m saying.Well, the Celtics would have been able to offer at most roughly the same deal. It’s not that surprising that, faced with roughly similar deals, he would have chosen to stay with what he knows.
Also, the Warriors are probably going to be better than the Celtics this year.
#1 rule in sales, you always make the call. That’s one of the better deals in FA so far. Checking on the RPM, the stat aligns with the eye test, by and large.Just turned 23, 7-4 wingspanned switchable big, credible handles and jump shot (miles better than, say, Tristan Thompson ever had) #27 ranked player in the NBA by RPM, .636 true shooting last year (.704 in the playoffs). Yahoo is saying the Celtics were interested. That’s one of the better deals in FA so far. Advanced stats don’t love Klay’s defense, with the usual explanation being that he has a bit of the Avery Bradley thing going on- he’s a great on-ball defender, which stands out to most people watching games, but not great with team defense, which hurts his overall impact. He also doesn’t generate a lot of steals/blocks, which is why he rates poorly in DBPM.Checking on the RPM, the stat aligns with the eye test, by and large.
But from that stat sheet, Klay is a net negative?! 30th best shooting guard in the league? Negative defensive value? Bizarre.

If this is true and the Agent felt like mentioning it
call up Bob Myers and offer Semi for Damian Jones...at least get the phone slammed down on you
jeez. It's a pretty easy sales pitch:https://twitter.com/Murf56/status/1145763865449443329
Dunno Mark Murphy, but his bio says he's longtime Herald reporter covering the Cs.
I love this signing for the Warriors and Russell’s did take a mammoth leap last year that coincided with him physically maturing. They fill Klay’s spot until he returns when they go small with a Steph-Russ-Klay-Dray-Looney and runs teams out of the building.D’Angelo Russell is 8 months older than Jaylen Brown and the league’s savviest organization just placed a big bet on him. I think SoSH is seriously underrating Russell’s upside.
Wasn’t he an RFA? The amount GSW signed him for was about the most Boston could have offered, so possibly they figured it would just get matched and didn’t want to tie up the room.jeez. It's a pretty easy sales pitch:
1. Kevon you'll start day 1 in Boston (mention Jones started over him last season and Cousins is lurking)
2. Kevon you're the age of the guys we're building this team around, so you will be a major piece to our next Championship
3. Kevon you can decide on 1yr or 2y deal
4. Kevon thanks for considering the Boston Celtics...
120 second call...probably get told no thank you, but make the damn call.
I've seen some of the smartest people do some of the dumbest things. Nothing shocks me.
48hrs ago we were in pursuit, according to Shams... the reporting has been all over the place

I believe he became unrestricted on Sunday.Wasn’t he an RFA? The amount GSW signed him for was about the most Boston could have offered, so possibly they figured it would just get matched and didn’t want to tie up the room.
The Celtics have a bit more available if they send out Yabu.Wasn’t he an RFA? The amount GSW signed him for was about the most Boston could have offered, so possibly they figured it would just get matched and didn’t want to tie up the room.
I'm sure cap related, as he was an appreciated role player last season, with upside.GSW withdraws their QO to Quinn Cook, making him an unrestricted FA.
I'm sure he'll land with a contender somewhere. Career 42% from 3.
Sigh. Godspeed, Quinn. He was besties with KD; and with the acquisition of Russell and need to pinch every penny under the hard cap, the writing was on the wall. They also just signed Ky Bowman to a two-way contract. presumably as their Santa Cruz PG project / de facto Cook replacement. Any BC fans here with some thoughts on Bowman?GSW withdraws their QO to Quinn Cook, making him an unrestricted FA.

I am not a BC fan but I liked what I saw of Ky in Summer League the other night. If he can improve his outside shot to make it NBA-credible, the Warriors may have found something.Sigh. Didn't he compare gun ownership here to China putting Uyghurs in concentration camps?I continue to be impressed by Steve Kerr:

+1. My first instinct was to be somewhat disappointed in what I thought was a somewhat sheepish reaction to the issue, but I see his POV much better after his eloquent elaboration. It's easy for me as a US civilian with no public platform to say "this is not that complicated — we should stand for a free Hong Kong, and China can fvck right off." But for public figures I also see the importance of wise, measured speech, especially in areas where one is not an expert. (Basically the opposite of Tiny's approach to everything). Biting one's tongue doesn't always have to be a matter of selling out one's principles in the name of $$$; it can also be a matter of respect, humility, or compassion, somewhat akin to not telling somewhat their music recital (or school paper, or recent haircut, etc.) sucked even if you kinda thought it did. On reflection, I think Kerr's demurral is more a case of the latter, though obviously not further inflaming the issue and risking further financial damage to the league is a nice side benefit. Basically, I can't begrudge him or anyone for choosing his public battles wisely and carefully.I continue to be impressed by Steve Kerr
His off the cuff comments are better then most people’s prepared remarks.I continue to be impressed by Steve Kerr:

Howzat now? Or is this satire of today’s political climate?Didn't he compare gun ownership here to China putting Uyghurs in concentration camps?
It isn’t only Durant though. It is Durant....and Klay....and Iguodala.....and Livingston.....and (injured) Looney.....and Quinn Cook. You can even include Boogie if you’d like."Y'all a little different without KD, I see," he said. "Uh-huh, y'all cheated long enough. It's OK. Y'all had a good run. Back to reality."

Looks like Pat and Steve are in agreement
Yea I liked just about all your over/under win bets. Did you get 48.5 under on GSW? I figured you were hitting that bid relentlessly. It isn’t only Durant though. It is Durant....and Klay....and Iguodala.....and Livingston.....and (injured) Looney.....and Quinn Cook. You can even include Boogie if you’d like.
I mean maybe not everyone here willing to “give them a chance” is paying attention to them over the first two games but their rotation after Curry, Draymond and D’Angelo consists of.......
Eric Paschall
Glenn Robinson Jr
Jordan Poole
Omari Spellman
Marquese Chriss
and Jacob Evans
What are we giving these guys a chance to do? I’m regret is that I didn’t fade them harder in my season prop bets.
I’m sure Curry will step up here and there.....if they win tonight it wouldn’t shock me....but this has to be a depressing outlook for Steph and Draymond to bring it every night. This is a dumpster fire waiting to happen.
U47.5, U46.5 and very little on “NO to make playoffs” at +265. I didn’t want to get too involved in that division and choose fading the Clippers more than fading the Warriors by playing off the Lakers Win Total and Division Win......yeah, fading Clips looks brilliant right about now.Yea I liked just about all your over/under win bets. Did you get 48.5 under on GSW? I figured you were hitting that bid relentlessly.
Feel bad for Steph, has to be frustrating, you just know he's going to play his heart out. That will be his undoing. He isn't going to last the season, getting double-teamed/beaten to a pulp every night.
BTW is it a "hot take" if we thought GSW was in for a tough season weeks ago??? The Western Conf is just a beast for a team with 9-10 young, inexperienced players.
"hot take" is the most fukn overused/tired phrase in sports talk these days IMO
