I should rephrase. I'm not implying that he should be sent down, rather that his quality is on par with an AHL defenseman's.
He's made a few plays that looked really bad but at least he's trying to make plays with the puck in his half of the ice. The d-men who are chucking it back to the other team or icing it aren't really doing much better

High hit, Bergeron is lucky he wasn't called for the retaliatory slash too
Yeah, I wouldn't have blamed Bergy if he did get called though.  You simply dont target the head of a guy with a concussion history.

They completely lack any offensive identity—no transition whatsoever, no possession game, no space (credit Detroit), losing battles all over the ice. No Krejci, lotsa kids out there, NHL scheduling designed to create home team wins and Detroit earned every inch of ice that got…. Uphill climb.

Since when is that a penalty? The stick shouldn't be allowed to sit in front of the crease making any pass or shoot impossible.
Since always.

Sluggish and sloppy tonight. Chalk it up to early season hockey, guys not quite up to speed and still getting familiar with each other.

So that sucked, but the Bergeron spoken word NHL 2015 commercial is awesome.

Julien said Bergy went to the quiet room and they ran through the protocol's. I feel like that's the first time the quiet room has ever been used properly.

I like to think that the B's were more scared than we were and would keep him in there an extra 5 minutes to be safe.

Which explains why he was so pissed at the hit to the head at the end of the game. Not that you need a reason to be pissed about a hit to the head I suppose.

Bergeron was matched with Zetterberg all night.  B's scored when Bergeron was on the ice (Obviously).  Both Detroit goals were scored with Zetterberg on the ice and Bergeron off due to injury/pp.

/Just give him the Selke already.

Eh, 40% Corsi. Not what we're used to seeing from him, but given everyone else's suckage, it was the best among forwards which isn't saying much, they were all bad. Pretty brutal night for Spooner and Fraser. The Bruins did not attempt a single shot with them on the ice at even strength, and Fraser had a 100% O zone start, 60% for Spooner. Ugly. The Seidenberg/McQuaid pairing appears to have been abused by the Wings. They were hemmed in all night to the tune of ~85% Corsi against when they were on the ice. Oh well, shit happens early on. They're still getting their legs up to regular season speed, and a lot of new player combinations to get used too. Takes time to develop chemistry. McQuaid and Seidenberg look to be shaking off rust, which is understandable since both are more than 10 months removed from NHL game action.

The one thing that worries me a bit after two games is the breakout. They struggled with the Flyers and Red Wings forecheck. Lots of reversing the puck behind the net, which has been a sign of trouble in the past. The outlet is the winger at the half boards, but the opposing D has been crashing down on the winger on the half boards leading to failed exits and getting hemmed in or icings. Something to keep an eye on.

The B's looked really sluggish to me last night -- as though it was the third in a row in the doldrums of January.  I'm hoping that it is simply a case of players not being in 100% game condition yet.

I really hope that it wasn't a sign of slow/old legs, but Detroit looked much younger/faster all night.  I imagine that second game hangover vs home opener adrenaline may have amplified this appearance.

Interesting note per Claude's post-game presser: They followed the concussion protocol with Patrice after the hit.  Quiet room and all.  He passed everything and returned, and later said that he just had the wind knocked out of him, but this is a good example of the concussion protocols actually being followed.
