Now he's being insufferable. Losing Super Bowls is worse than not getting there. Making 7 Super Bowls isn't that big of a deal. Belichick winning a fifth and becoming the first coach to do so, "if that matters to you", isn't that big of a deal. The hate is palpable.
I was in the car for that. Love how his tone was so dismissive when he said it, like it was a participation medal.

Caller now bringing up that he'd rather go to more SB games than not. Mike countering with Marv Levy. "We penalize people harshly for making it and losing." You're better off losing a tight Championship Game then going to a SB and getting blown out. "This society kills guys for getting to the SB and losing."
Might have actually hurt a bit less if we actually had gotten blown out in either of those SB losses.

Everyone knows that the Cleveland Browns were celebrated much more than the Broncos after "The Drive." Advancing to that Super Bowl really was a low point of John Elway's career.

His boy mad dog took some shots today too. Said he is so sick of Belichick, Brady and the Pats. Doesn't know if it's because they've been there so much or their fandom or what. He said "they are not a national team. Yeah, they have their fans up in their little corridor, but that's it" He thinks the league is going to have a hard time drumming up any interest for the game. Nobody outside of NE and ATL cares.

Couldnt follow it all, but did he recently say that if you're a real underdog and get your ass handed to you in the SB, it's OK because you didnt belong there in the first place. But if you're a good team with a chance to win and you lose by 3 on a lucky play, it's an abject failure?

And the pass thru sponsor that they THOUGHT they had lined up just fell thru. One caller just tried to commiserate with Mike and pointed out what an injustice it is that B&C gave out a SB trip last week, but before he could finish, Mike jumped on him "Dont run the station! Don't run the station!! It's not as easy as just giving a trip away. There are RULEZ!" with Mike droning on for the bazillionth time today about pass thru sponsors and you dont understand what it takes yada yada yada. Sounded like the caller hit a nerve.

But Mike did just give me my new catchphrase: "We've been working on this..... since..................(sheepishly) earlier today."

And yet I remember his saying to Dog years ago that it he could live with it when NYY would get to the World Series and lose, because "that happens."

But I guess a foolish consistency is the something of something something.

Mike is only consistent in his inconsistency. He just can't keep his biases out of his analysis. He really is just hollering into the void about Brady and Belichick at this point. What they have done is unparalleled and everyone, except Mike, acknowledges that fact.

Mike says he'd concede BB/TB as GOATs without question IF the Pats had won the 2007 SB vs the Giants.

Mike was mad was because he knew this would be his last time doing it. Also Russo is definitely doing The Marquis again so Mike threw a fit.
Gotta say, there are very few things that I can draw a mental picture of that make me laugh out loud, but Russo dressed up as the Marquis, and calling himself the Marquis, is one of them.

It's just SO stupid that it's hysterical.

EDIT: I'm sorry, but as I was typing this, I started laughing.

Me too. Like almost everything else, the contest was so much better when they worked together. Mike barely puts in any effort: reads the same three questions that everyone gets correct and then stumps them on the quote.

I still remember the time Dog comes marching into the studio (might have been the last year they did the contest together) wearing full 18th Century French Courtier regalia. He's also sporting a party mask that was so obviously upside-down. His stupidity never ceases to amaze.

where I was last at
I thought it may have been Rich Gannon as well. Was that guessed?
Not that I recall.
Outside of the defensive type comments, other than it sounded like the spreaker was Caucasian, there were no obvious hints.
I thought OC or QB, but could be a HC.

Francesa mentioned it knocked out more contestants than any audio ever has, and that the "internet" detectives were slipping up.

He's going back to it until someone gets it.

I made the mistake of turning off a great late 73 version of Eyes sometime ~ 6:15 to listen to the fat fucking piece of excrement claim that the Pats cheated in the Rams Super Bowl because Faulk and Warner "felt that" the Pats taped Saturday practice. I know we've heard this garbage before but he repeated it 4-5 times.

We know he is serial repeater but this was beyond extreme. He is so angry that he cannot even answer the caller's question how Belichick defends or might defend a high scoring offense like Atlanta without completely losing his cool and going off un-hinged.

Btw the Eyes was 10/25/73

Today's winner was GREAT. Hemmed and hawed thru the first three questions, like he hadnt heard them answered a dozen times already. Gets to the sound byte, hems and haws, and fires out the right answer. Mike is shocked: how in the dickens did you get that? Caller gives props to his buddy by name, says it was his guess. Mike says they expected to go all afternoon before someone got it right.

It was like the Letterman bit "can a guy in a bear costume get into a Times Square strip joint". The bear's in!

Mike defending Mr. Kraft: the man is 75, if he maybe wants to enjoy a cocktail on game day, what's the big deal?
I've often thought if I were the owner of a successful sports team, especially an NFL one, the hardest part would be staying remotely sober on game days, let alone during a playoff game where your team won a blowout.

Potential to get ugly:

you could clearly hear the winner typing/looking up the answer to the final question (claims he knew the answer, and was just confirming it, and STILL may have gotten it wrong) AND the runner-up got the question absolutely correct but lost because Mike mixed up or didnt care about the difference between "born in" vs "grew up in".

Or something like that: just sounds like a real mess all around.........

Deep thoughts, with Mike Francesa:

"I tell you, every year it (Radio Row) just seems to get bigger. Even since the last time we went it's so much bigger.I mean, maybe it's just a very big building. That may be the case, this is a massive massive building. It's like football city here, backaftadis."

Interviewing James Lofton. Asking Lofton several questions about the Falcons offense. Typically, won't let Lofton finish an answer. Lofton tells Francesa that he is covering the game form the Pats sidelines so he has been concentrating on analyzing the game through the Patriot's point of view. Francesa: "so tell me about those illegal pick plays the Patriots like to run" "I'm sure the Falcons will get that information to the officials".

When he has a drum to beat he beats it to death.

When other teams do it, they are well designed 'crossing routes' or 'bunch formations.' When the Pats do it, they're 'illegal pick plays' from the criminal mind of Dirty Ernie Adams.

The Steelers' first TD drive in the AFCCG was started by a 3rd-and-long conversion where one of the Steeler wideouts cleared out everything in his path, leading the other guy to be wide open. Of course, to Simms and Nantz it was "MOVE ON, NOTHING TO SEE THERE".

I'm thinking he's on regular coca-cola this week. He's been pounding out questions over everyone's answer. He was all over Dick Vermeil and wine making. Vermeil is clearly an investor and not a vintner, but Mike was asking him questions like he was Robert Mondavi.

He did dial it down a notch when interviewing Kristie Ennis, but her story is so remarkable that even Mike had to shut up a little and listen.

Troy Brown is almost too polite to succeed on TV. Everything he says is measured, calm and thoughtful. I just love the guy and listen intently whenever he's on. But others do talk over him because, unlike them, he's not a jerk.

Mike says he is definitely retiring Dec 15 no matter what but he has 'other plans' on staying in the media.

EDIT: They're telling war stories now. Good stuff. Pat Riley is still pissed at them and will never come on. He faxed his resignation from the Knicks and Mike and Dog killed him for it. Riley holds a grudge.

Dog seemed to apologize for the way he left WFAN at one point.

Before ripping Brady again for never facing LT, of course.
Yup. And Mike admitted he almost started to cry when Tony (Russo's dad) called in after Dog left and was tearing up asking Mike 'can I still call you?'

The biggest takeaway, besides the fact that they still have great chemistry, was Dog basically telling Mike that they could do a show together on Sirius "and they'd pay you" to do a once a week, couple hour show together.

I mean that is a no brainer. Mike joins Ringer and does his podcast show and does two hours on Friday with Dog in Sirius.

For sure, Russo was trying to recruit him. Mike was being coy by saying he has many opportunities. I don't think there's a long term future for them but an occasional project or collaboration seems to be possible. They seemed to be on good terms.

EDIT: Mike looks like he was dressed for a job interview...

Despite their idiotic tendencies, resentments and ignorance about many things sports or otherwise, together they were untouchable back in the day. Today during the last 20 minutes I was able to hear, they showed they still have it.

With some space, they could hit some peaks
