Phil formally charged with insider trading by the SEC
Walters called and then sent text messages to Mickelson, who ultimately bought a $2.4 million position in three accounts he controlled. Those securities “dwarfed” Mickelson’s other holdings, which were collectively valued at less than $250,000, the SEC said. Mickelson had not been a frequent trader, and these were his first Dean Foods purchases, the SEC said. Mickelson made a profit of approximately $931,000 from the stock, which he held for about a week.

I don't think it's accurate to say that the SEC filed formal charges against Mickelson. He was named as a "relief defendant" - someone who profited from inside information but is not being charged. The charges in this case are against Bill Walters, the man who gave Mickelson the insider information.

Mickelson apparently used the profits from his trades to cover a $1 million gambling debt to Walters. If there was an explicit quid pro quo, Mickelson may not be out of the woods unless it's revealed that he's a cooperating witness.

What a dummy.

Muirfield Village is a club in Ohio. Muirfield is the legendary Scottish course.
Well I think it is safe to say that Muirfield Village is not in the Open Championship rotation...

Sorry - fingers got typing faster than the brain was working, I guess . Not going to edit my post to let my stupidity stand.

Spieth's all messed up with the driver. He's been in the tree's all day.

This has turned to Koepka/Sergio. They are tied, Sergio is on 18 and Koepka on 16. Koepka is leaking oil. 2 straight bogey's and he just hit his second on 16 (a par 5) way right.

Yep, Kooch is still in the mix. He needs a birdie on 18 to tie Sergio, but drove it right.

Brooks needs to birdie 17 or 18 to win outright.

Brooks rinses the opening tee shot of the playoff. Sergio pipes one down the middle, so barring a miracle, this thing is probably over. Stapleton snatches defeat from the jaws of victory yet again.

Crazy leaderboard right now with scoring conditions. Should be a fun afternoon.

Assuming the weather holds up that is.

Just realized CBS is showing pre-recorded footage and live play is suspended. Ugh.

It's kind of amazing these 2 held it together to this point, McGirt with one good shot from the rough and that might be enough for him. (I guess not live, but hey I don't know who won yet)

Hard not to like McGirt. Very nice scene post match

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
Both of those courses in Ohio I've played a ton and are pretty close to me. Those are great scores.

I'm going to eventually try and do one of the qualifiers in Ohio just to get the chance to get paired up with some of the pros trying to qualify after the memorial.

Woohoo, they just showed him make his par putt on the tough 5th hole. Hopefully, they start following him.

Was just coming in to see if anyone else is watching. Been watching all week, and it's been a great tournament. World #1, 19 year old, Lydia Ko, looking for her third straight major, about to start a playoff against World #4, 18 year old Brooke Henderson, looking for her 1st. Just incredible stuff. On the back 9, down 4 shots, Henderson made about a 90 foot putt for eagle from off the front of the green, then another 35 footer on 17 for birdie to catch Ko coming in. Ko basically made one "mistake" all day, missing a birdie putt on 17 from about 6 feet that would have basically ended it.

And both of them pound it down the middle of the narrow 18th fairway.

Wow, Ko hits a beautiful shot to about 15-20 feet, and Henderson then sticks one inside 5 feet. Gotta think Ko has to make to keep it going.

Ko really is so amazing though. She's not long at all, constantly hitting from like 170-200 yards out when her playing partners are hitting from 140-160, and almost always ends up inside them. She hits a bunch of hybrids, and just hits everything flush. I could watch her play all day long.

McIlroy won't play in the Olympics. This is turning into an absolute disaster. Hope it doesn't prevent the sport from being in future games.

Hopefully it doesn't cause an exodus. I was pretty excited for Olympics golf but I assumed, stupidly, the golfers would want to play.
