"in with a doctor now" would be a finely constructed euphemism for "he's having surgery right now"
Yeah, this is sounding like DRS is going to be right here. Just a really unfortunate turn of events for Duvall and a team that just doesn’t have much margin for error at all."in with a doctor now" would be a finely constructed euphemism for "he's having surgery right now"
Or too swollen yesterday for clear results on the x-rays.Yeah, this is sounding like DRS is going to be right here. Just a really unfortunate turn of events for Duvall and a team that just doesn’t have much margin for error at all.
Duvall's loss will hurt, no question. However, the Sox have some depth to them this year. Dalbec and Duran are a year older and both have a chance to cross over from bit-player to something more impactful. We also have Mondesi and Story - there's a combo there that can put Hernandez back in the OF for the second half.Yeah, this is sounding like DRS is going to be right here. Even if the x-rays are clear, I'd assume there are some scenarios where were looking at some time before we really know what the soft-tissue damage is?Or too swollen yesterday for clear results on the x-rays.
What's unclear about PeteAbe's tweet is where is this going on? Did Duvall travel to St. Pete with the team or did he come back to Boston last night? If he's in St. Pete, it seems unlikely that he's in surgery right now. If he's in Boston, that's a different story."in with a doctor now" would be a finely constructed euphemism for "he's having surgery right now"
I can't imagine he's in FL. If you had an injury or illness of any kind, wouldn't you want to see a doctor in Boston? Or maybe NYC. But I'd try Boston first. What's unclear about PeteAbe's tweet is where is this going on? Did Duvall travel to St. Pete with the team or did he come back to Boston last night? As often as you hear it, that’s not a thing. No matter how swollen something is the x-rays are still valid. Same with MRIs - if your doctor tells you something is too swollen for an MRI it means they can’t get you scheduled quickly.Or too swollen yesterday for clear results on the x-rays.
I’m not very high on either Dalbec or Duran but at least we have AAA guys who have MLB experience that might be able to have a decent stretch or two. Hernandez’s bat is starting to depress me. Have no idea what to expect from Mondesi and Story but hopefully we get some good second half production out of them.Duvall's loss will hurt, no question. It really comes down to who will play at SS, and who will play CF. We can fudge a bit for awhile with Refsnyder and Verdugo.
Given Casas had a double and homerun against lefties yesterday, and he's (intensely knocking on wood) the long term solution, I wouldn't want Casas sitting vs all the lefties they are about to face.Imagine Dalbec couldn’t make it in time? Wouldn’t you want him starting instead of Casas?
I can see that; but if Dalbec is not starting against LH, I’m not sure why he’s the guy getting called up. They’d be better served with someone who can actually play CF or SS. Maybe that happens if / when Duvall goes on the 60?Given Casas had a double and homerun against lefties yesterday, and he's (intensely knocking on wood) the long term solution, I wouldn't want Casas sitting vs all the lefties they are about to face.
Well I just mean for tonight's game...Casas had a great day vs LHP yesterday, let him play again today. If I had to bet right now on next 4 games Id say Casas tonight & Wednesday (vs a RHP), Dalbec vs the other two lefties Tues & Thurs.I can see that; but if Dalbec is not starting against LH, I’m not sure why he’s the guy getting called up. Fair enough- I think it’s also likely that Beeks, who hasn’t started a ton, doesn’t go that long so might as well start Casas and potentially have the platoon advantage most of the game.Well I just mean for tonight's game...Casas had a great day vs LHP yesterday, let him play again today. If they were concerned about Casas and 1B against LHP, I imagine Dalbec would have been on the roster from the start. He's not coming up to play 1B (though maybe he gets an occasional start there). He's getting the call primarily to be a middle infield option that allows them to move Kike to the outfield as necessary.I can see that; but if Dalbec is not starting against LH, I’m not sure why he’s the guy getting called up. Well, doesn’t the loss of Duvall change things? Believe the original plan was for Turner to take some at bats at 1b against LH. Seems like a good spot for Dalbec. If he’s coming up as backup at ss/2b, it seems like a stretch but I guess they are pretty limited based on who they have available to call up. But seems like Duvall to the 60 and a call up of Goodrum might be on the table, no?If they were concerned about Casas and 1B against LHP, I imagine Dalbec would have been on the roster from the start. Until there's clarity on Duvall, nothing's really changed in the short term. I think Dalbec was called up because he's the best RHH on the 40-man who wasn't already on the big club, and the team is facing a bunch of LHP coming up. Once they get through the LHP gauntlet, and know exactly what is up with Duvall, they can make further changes whether that's selecting Goodrum or recalling Duran or Hamilton in place of Dalbec. Why? Dalbec has proven himself to be terrible and Casas hit a HR of a LHP yesterday.Imagine Dalbec couldn’t make it in time? Wouldn’t you want him starting instead of Casas?
Exactly how terrible has Dalbec been against LHP?Why? Dalbec has proven himself to be terrible and Casas hit a HR of a LHP yesterday.
Yes I agree. The only other thing would be to find out who did his sugery last year. Lots of times they will go back to the same Doctor. I can't seem to find where he had the surgery last time. Presumably Atlanta but who knows?I can't imagine he's in FL. If you had an injury or illness of any kind, wouldn't you want to see a doctor in Boston? Or maybe NYC. But I'd try Boston first.
I couldn't find out either, but they use Peachtree Orthopedics. Here are their hand and wrist guys.I couldn't dig up who the doc was that did Adam's wrist surgery last year. Anyone find it?
He isn't good enough to bench a player that you hope is the team's everyday first baseman. Cases doesn't get better sitting on the bench watching a player than isn't good enough taking ABsExactly how terrible has Dalbec been against LHP?
Good to know, thanks for that tidbit. As often as you hear it, that’s not a thing. No matter how swollen something is the x-rays are still valid. Same with MRIs - if your doctor tells you something is too swollen for an MRI it means they can’t get you scheduled quickly.
Too swollen for surgery can be a thing, but not for radiographic studies.
I can see him getting a game at first in this series to give Casas a day off and perhaps come off the bench as a RH PH.He isn't good enough to bench a player that you hope is the team's everyday first baseman. Cases doesn't get better sitting on the bench watching a player than isn't good enough taking ABs
Dalbec has a career OPS of .855 (126 OPS+) against LHP. There is absolutely no harm in giving him a start or two against an LHP in combination with giving Casas a routine day off. No matter how good the kid is, he's not going to play 162 games. He will sit once in a while. Might as well sit him for Dalbec against a lefty. He isn't good enough to bench a player that you hope is the team's everyday first baseman. Fuuuuuuuuuck
DDB Jr. broke his wrist while skating. The surgeon that he saw had dozens and dozens of pictures of baseball players in his office. The way he explained it to us was that for a very particular type of injury he was kind of regarded as one of a few guys who did this one particular thing for baseball players. I don't know what percentage see him, but I got the sense that it was like the Dr. James Edwards kind of principle. He had logged his 10,00 hours, and so players flew in from all over the place.I can't imagine he's in FL. If you had an injury or illness of any kind, wouldn't you want to see a doctor in Boston? Or maybe NYC. But I'd try Boston first.
Looks like we've got ourselves a free trade deadline acquisition then!I’d guess he’s out 2 months if he gets surgery.
Right up Chaim's alley.Looks like we've got ourselves a free trade deadline acquisition then!
I will say sometime in August he will be back. The question is who comes back first Duvall or Story?Been there, twice. Bones take 6-8 to heal. If he's immobilized, there's extra time to get things stretched out, too.
From what i've read (and I have zero medical backround aside from being married to a nurse haha) it's a three month minimum with surgery until he can resume any activties.I’d guess he’s out 2 months if he gets surgery.
Why wouldn't Refsnyder leadoff, as he already has been against LHP? I get that we just lost our five-hitter, but still, why not just make adjustments from five thru nine?No gamethread yet, but this is the first post-Duvall lineup
1. Enrique Hernandez (R) SS
2. Rafael Devers (L) 3B
3. Justin Turner (R) DH
4. Masataka Yoshida (L) LF
5. Rob Refsnyder (R) CF
6. Alex Verdugo (L) RF
7. Christian Arroyo (R) 2B
8. Triston Casas (L) 1B
9. Connor Wong (R) C
