yeah pretty low.Huh? That seems like a pretty low price for Grant, no?
There is some value in that POR ate the entire contract, so DET now has like $45M in cap space.

Hell of a first post back.Tatum for Wiggs + #28 works in the trade machine...
Yes, but it also sets up DET as a player in free agency or in the draft trade market. Rumor is that Deandre Ayton and DET have mutual interest. DET has 5, 36 and a boatload of cap room.Huh? That seems like a pretty low price for Grant, no?
Hah. Didn’t want to jinx us during the series, and didn’t want to rub it in afterwards. But it’s been six days now, so I’m hoping safe to slowly reintegrate.Hell of a first post back.
That sucks, really thought he could be a good fit here
Jaiden Ivy, Cade Cunningham, Ayton and Bey is a pretty good young nucleus. I think ideally they’d stink another year and get a high pick but that’s a good young coreYes, but it also sets up DET as a player in free agency or in the draft trade market. It seems to me like they are fully in on Ayton now, with the cap space freed up by this move. I don't fully understand most NBA trades these days but this one seems somewhat obvious in its objective.I find it unlikely that Detroit will use the $45m for anything that really moves the needle, & a Giannis 1st & some 2nd round capital is not much for Grant...buuuuut they did sign him for just cash (& a sign & trade where they gave up just cash considerations) & then flipped that for picks which is about the best case scenario for that contract they gave him at their phase of non-competence.
It's kind of a nice pickup for the Blazers but they seem pretty rudderless generally & not really sure this moves the needle.
Yeah. Kind of surprised by that. Figure he’d want a longer deal.Connaughton news is weird to me. He couldn’t make double that annually for multiple years on the open market?
$$$ seems like no object around there, bludgeoning their way to a CHiP has even made the Yankees blushHah. Didn’t want to jinx us during the series, and didn’t want to rub it in afterwards. But it’s been six days now, so I’m hoping safe to slowly reintegrate.
Beyond the weirdness of trading with a rival, I can’t think of any Cs assets (excluding the obvious untouchables) that make sense in GS in exchange for #28. A future first? Nesmith? Pritchard?
Maybe eating Wiseman if GS cares about $ even a little? I assume they'd like to re-sign Looney more than having Wiseman, and Wiseman and a 1st for a 2nd, and maybe a future 1st or swap saves them $35-40M in cashHah. I guess PDX maxing Ayton in a S&T (with #7 going to the Suns) is off the board
I'd expect part of the motivation for GS is to avoid a big tax hit from a player unlikely to contribute---so the asset is likely something smaller (a future 1 heavily protected, or a 2 and a swap, or something like that). In other words, it is not just about the asset.Beyond the weirdness of trading with a rival, I can’t think of any Cs assets (excluding the obvious untouchables) that make sense in GS in exchange for #28. They had about $24m available before. I believe a max Ayton contract starts at $30.5m year one, so if their only goal is to sign Ayton into space, there are much easier ways to clear $6.5m without giving up their 2nd best player. It seems to me like they are fully in on Ayton now, with the cap space freed up by this move. Is a more interesting core to me, but we'll see what other shoes drop.
I thought I read $45m. Are you factoring the $12m dead?they're going to be at around $56M in cap space.
I felt the same way a year ago when Bobby Portis signed for less than $5M on a one and one. Guys must love Milwaukee.Connaughton news is weird to me. He couldn’t make double that annually for multiple years on the open market?
I didn't notice the poster at first and actually took it as a pretty good SoSH joke, since someone here was unironically asking after the Finals if Wiggins was as good as Tatum.Hell of a first post back.
SOme of the better cap people are projecting them to get to $55M.... Ah it's based on renouncing remaining FAs and probably dropping a few of the options they have (Carsen Edwards, Luke Garza, Frank Jackson, Hamidou Diallo).I thought I read $45m. Are you factoring the $12m dead?
Either way, will be interesting to see what else they try to do. Also, Ayton is an RFA so there are always hurdles.
Been out there a while. Haynes putting it out means he got a call from Klutch. Lowe talked about it on his podcast yesterday with Giovny and said the word he's heard is TOR has no interest in that.
That’s all I could think of as well. Really likes the situation he’s in and is ok with being just rich and not extraI felt the same way a year ago when Bobby Portis signed for less than $5M on a one and one. Guys must love Milwaukee.
Why would they? In this draft, who is worth Anunoby to Toronto? I'd be surprised if Toronto would move him for 1.Been out there a while. Haynes putting it out means he got a call from Klutch. Grants a $20m expiring deal to the Pistons. They reportedly want to free up space to make Ayton a max offer so there is the cap benefit there. Even if the Pistons waited until the deadline and dealt Grant to a contender as a rental what would they get in return since there would be a tight market? Probably a low 1st bc that’s what most contenders would have to offer even IF they had salary to send back.Huh? That seems like a pretty low price for Grant, no?
Pistons didn’t want to take any salary back, so would have been basically impossible for the Celtics.Heck I would have given a FRP and -----wait for it ------some pick swaps for Grant. Seems like the sort of player everyone could use.
We’ll take it.Daniel Theis for Kuminga, Moody + #28 works in the trade machine...
Smart for a 25-yr old who nearly averaged a Triple-Double last season while also leading the league in Steals? Hmmm, I suppose Brad would consider this.Look I’m not one of the guys angling for a “true PG”/getting rid of Smart but if you were to do it…
Maybe some kind of a 3-way with Smart going to ATL, Collins (and picks from BOS) to Spurs, and Murray coming to Boston?
I know that all in ones are not exactly popular around here, but Murray's DARKO curve looks like a line graph of gas prices in 2022.Smart for a 25-yr old who nearly averaged a Triple-Double last season while also leading the league in Steals? Hmmm, I suppose Brad would consider this.
The article I linked said a “Jrue Holliday like package” so I’m assuming it would also take picks/swaps for the rest of the decade.Smart for a 25-yr old who nearly averaged a Triple-Double last season while also leading the league in Steals? Hmmm, I suppose Brad would consider this.
Plus Grant prefers to play for crappy teams so he can get the ball more.Pistons didn’t want to take any salary back, so would have been basically impossible for the Celtics.

This kids entire career has baffled me. I had him as a Top-10 pick and loved his skillset in college to translate into that 2016 Draft. He was drafted obv a lot lower than I thought then after being one of the leagues best defensive players as a rookie he tears up his knee. Then he comes back better than ever threatening a season-long “Oscar” and is somehow now on the trade block. Baffling. Why is San Antonio trying to move DM?
They aren't, but if they can get a haul it becomes interesting. Why is San Antonio trying to move DM?
I’m getting word that it’s fake movement. Sometimes syndicates will goose a line a little with their marked accounts and start a rumor so that the market continues moving the line for them and they can get more attractive odds on the actual favorite. No promises though.Sportsbooks are quickly changing Banchero's odds of getting drafted #1. Loose lips in Orlando or in his camp, maybe?

Could be but it’s unlikely that it would happen so suddenly after Smith being a huge favorite all day. Where were these bettors earlier? Banchero already had his push based on such information before today.Probably more speculation based on the Magic’s actions. When the team with the first pick brings the consensus #1 guy in for a workout and that #1 guy leaves only to be followed by others working out while being tight lipped it is an enormous red flag. Ainge did the same thing with Fultz in the summer of ‘17.
This market is so illiquid with tiny limits we are seeing bizarre movement. Smith was back down to -130 yesterday, up to -600 tonight only to drop to -110 two hours later……so there was def some Jabari talk this afternoon somewhere. All I can do is trust my read of the Magic not making Jabari know that he’s their man which is what teams do when they are picking the consensus #1.I’m getting word that it’s fake movement. No, either there’s insider information out there tonight, or someone is trying to make people believe there is to steam the line.
Connaughton news is weird to me. He couldn’t make double that annually for multiple years on the open market?
Hot Take Alert!!Yeah. Kind of surprised by that. Figure he’d want a longer deal.
But wouldn’t you want to lock in whatever you can in the NBA and then let that go, if he really did want to try baseball? If it were me, I would sign the largest possible deal now and then give it up later, if I really felt compelled to try baseball.Hot Take Alert!!
I’ve heard two Connaughton interviews discussing his baseball career. The first was when he entered the league where he says that he wants to play in the NBA until he’s 30 and then pitch in the bigs until he’s 40. The second was on The Dan Patrick Show last year when he flat out says that he hasn’t given up on the dream and still has an off-season throwing program. He also said that he told Christian Yelish that who knows they may be teammates down the road.
So the hot take is that Connaughton isn’t hitting the market to find a 4-yr deal bc he wants to stay in Milwaukee to finish up his basketball career next season prior to taking his 97-mph fastball to the minors to work his way up to the bigs.
Little known fact, he's actually from the Boston area.Either way, too bad Celtics couldn’t get him. He’s a nice player.
