I wouldn't bet on that. It wouldn't surprise me to see those restrictions lifted by playoff time.Kyrie will probably not be able to play home games in the playoffs right?
they would not, unless the NBA changes the rules. The fine is the punishment for breaking the city ordinance, but the NBA has directed teams to follow any ordinance, so the league wouldn't allow it.I believe I also read Kyrie would be able to play if the Nets paid a $5,000 fine for every home game he plays in.
It's probably a fair expectation that along with the general relaxation of rules that by playoff time Kyrie can play at home, I'm afraid. (I mean, happy about the 1st part, just that I enjoy Kyrie paying a price).they would not, unless the NBA changes the rules. As a basketball fan, I'm pretty excited to see it. Their fit depends on Kyrie's availability though - Durant/Kyrie/Simmons is a more balanced trio than Durant/Kyrie/Harden, but Durant/Harden is a far superior duo to Durant/Simmons. This is gonna be fun.People are going to remember how freaking good Ben Simmons is when he finally gets to play with a non-postup star.
I think this is likely. And I wonder if (and how many) other teams are going to reflect back on their negotiations with Philly earlier in the season before the Harden situation and regret not improving their offer.People are going to remember how freaking good Ben Simmons is when he finally gets to play with a non-postup star.
As others have said, malcontents asking out is a yearly occurrence in the NBA. I have no particular investment in Morey's reputation, but all the "He needs to trade Simmons for whatever he can get, letting him sit out will be a disaster, player empowerment" and all sorts of other smartest guy in the room bullshity takes were wrong. The people who spouted them can take their medicine now, it's fine.
I get it. But it didn't have to be a Harden. Some years you get a Westbrook instead. He definitely got his star player to play alongside Embiid though. All the credit to him.No, that was his gamble all along---something will develop. Betting on the opportunity map changing when you give yourself a long time to change is not so much luck as it is probability (though also not 'certainty')
My biggest take here was “Wow, Kendrick is enormous.”
I was one of those and maybe Morey hit a home run but he also made one of his competitors much better and they may be better for a longer time than PHI.As others have said, malcontents asking out is a yearly occurrence in the NBA. Yeah, dude has Shaq in the rear view.My biggest take here was “Wow, Kendrick is enormous.”
I ran into him at LaGuardia just before Covid hit and said hi, thank you for your service, etc.My biggest take here was “Wow, Kendrick is enormous.”
He's not Little Perk and he isn't Average Sized Perk. He's Big Perk.My biggest take here was “Wow, Kendrick is enormous.”
Yeah, he saved a pair of firsts, while burning a year of Embiid, and at the cost of improving a direct competitor. Morey bollixed this any way you slice it.I was one of those and maybe Morey hit a home run but he also made one of his competitors much better and they may be better for a longer time than PHI.
PHI has defensive issues and rebounding issues and getting Harden and trading Drummond doesn't really help those. Maybe PHI can now outscore everyone but they still got to play the games.
Kyrie's challenge was around the vaccine mandate, not the mask mandate wasn't it? I do not believe that has yet changedNew York already lifted its mask mandate for businesses, so I presume Kyrie will be able to play most every game now, and play all games (most markets are trending towards mask mandate being lifted) by the time playoffs roll around, unless there is another wave/shut down. He will continue to be able to express his freedom to infect others with new variants forever.
It's the vaccine mandate that his problem, which - while could be correlated, aren't necessarily. I do think he'll be able to play, but I think vaccine mandates will be slower to roll back.New York already lifted its mask mandate for businesses, so I presume Kyrie will be able to play most every game now, and play all games (most markets are trending towards mask mandate being lifted) by the time playoffs roll around, unless there is another wave/shut down. Don’t think vaccine mandates are going anywhere until we’ve had several months without a new variant, if then. It's the vaccine mandate that his problem, which - while could be correlated, aren't necessarily. I do think he'll be able to play, but I think vaccine mandates will be slower to roll back.
I agree, I was joking around a bit in my post. It's a better deal for the Nets. But, given the situation Philly was dealing with, they've walked away with a very good result. Trading Simmons for John Collins and picks or something just doesn't really get you to upper echelon contender status, barring other moves. With Harden and Embiid, I feel like you're pretty much there, especially if you can get off of Tobias Harris and add better complementary pieces. Having guys who are 2nd and 4th in free throws attempts in the NBA seems like a good recipe for being an elite playoff offense, which you kind of have to do if you have the opportunity.I was one of those and maybe Morey hit a home run but he also made one of his competitors much better and they may be better for a longer time than PHI.

Harris isn't a great contract still, but I'm not sure that Philly will want to move him for nothing.I agree, I was joking around a bit in my post. It's a better deal for the Nets. I don't think Harris is a terrible player by any means, he's just overpaid, but I suppose we'll have to see how they all fit together on the court.Harris isn't a great contract still, but I'm not sure that Philly will want to move him for nothing.
His shooting has suffered this year, but he should be getting better looks with Harden there (good passer with gravity). Can carry some scoring load, rebound.
He's not a value player, but someone besides Harden and Embiid has to produce.
Agreed that they should look to improve on him. He's overpaid. There's probably a deal out there in the offseason. I don't see him as a bad fit with the big 2 though, aside from the fact that they're all wicked expensive.I don't think Harris is a terrible player by any means, he's just overpaid, but I suppose we'll have to see how they all fit together on the court.
In general, though, I wouldn't want to be in the position of committing $38,000,000 to Harris when I'm already paying Embiid and Harden. There are players who would be worth that in the "third star" territory, but I've never felt like Harris was one. Wing/big wing defenders are what they need with their other pieces. If they could do some kind of 2 or 3 for 1 with Harris and get some useful roleplayers on middle-class contracts, or another overpaid player who is a better fit, I would probably make that move and expect Embiid/Harden/Maxey to carry the offensive load.
To be fair, I think the glowingly talk about Zion's abilities have always been caveated by how his body type may make it less likely that he's able to stay on the court. It's not like he's sucked when he's played, he's been a very efficient volume scorer (60%+ true shooting on 25+ points per game) when healthy. It's interesting how much everyone was ready to build Zion's exhibit in the Hall of Fame and he really has had little impact so far.
Zion had pretty clearly showed he was going to be one of the guys who didn't need much range. His problems are all injury related.I've been the low person on Zion in most places, and this is one of the two primary reasons: I just don't buy his body or conditioning. The other being that guys who have no range have a really limited success rate---for every Barkley or Giannis there's a lot of misses. Put together the physical questions and uncertainty about his game (especially whether it would age well) and while Zion certainly is a potential franchise-changing guy the probability of that has always been a lot lower than the reporting.
I don't agree; I think teams hadn't really even begun to scheme him and he played almost solely in meaningless games. I agree that the above is possible---but do not agree we are sure that's what a healthy Zion will be.Zion had pretty clearly showed he was going to be one of the guys who didn't need much range. His problems are all injury related.
Yup. Young guys mature but his body may be toast by the time he does. Would be disappointing if he goes the Oden route. When Zion showed up after an offseason on the Al Jefferson conditioning plan I immediately revised my opinion on him. The guy that looked like Grandmama v3.0 could have been a star. The the one that looks like a 35 year old Barkley is headed for the broadcast booth.
I do think applying the mandate to home players and not visiting players is odd.
MY MAN!!
I'm pretty sure DeRozan would have buried the shot Tatum missed at the end of the game last nite. That's basically a layup for him.MY MAN!!
When is this man going to get some MVP love? He’s still 18-1 and 20-1 where I see. He has a strong case should the Bulls be the 1-seed while he drops 35 a night without LaVine around.
He's one of the reasons it's hard for me to take some of the all in one stats seriously. "But his team is better with him off the court."MY MAN!!

When he's not significantly worse than the 3 frontrunners? Only 1 person can win the award, DeRozan is having a really good season, he has a real shot at 1st team All-NBA.... he's not having the season (on either end) that Jokic/Embiid/Giannis are having. He'd have to average like 38 the rest of the way and play better defense to even get a "ooh interesting, but no"MY MAN!!

One year of data. Post mentioned years of "team being worse with him on the court than off."Yes its criminal that all in one stats (this isn't an accurate descriptor imo but whatever) are depicting DeMar DeRozan as a negative...oh...wait.
Now watch goalposts get moved.
