And why hasn’t he scored too?
Tuukka wasn’t faultless on that goal but I’d say something like 60/40 on the D. His positioning was fantastic the rest of the night. Steadiest he’s been in a while.
The guy has a .927 career playoff save percentage in 101 games. 7th all time in the history of the NHL, and he's played more than double the games of any of the 6 guys in front of him. He's in the conversation of best playoff goalies of all time, but alas, the city of Boston hates him. 31 other teams would kill to have a goalie with Rask's playoff track record.
Yet he was going to win the Conn Smythe if they won and maybe if they lost depending on how Game 7 went. For some reason everyone is so quick to blame him but never gives him any credit.
These were responses that began in response to the notion that Rask should have saved a goal that he admitted he should have played differently.
Tuukka gets plenty of credit. The guy you’re both responding to said he’s been playing well this playoffs and specifically in this game. Just about every time this tired bullshit gets whipped out, Tuukka has been getting plenty of credit but people have the temerity to suggest that he should have made a save that he didn’t.
Every other player on this team gets mentioned when they fuck up—even the stars. No one elicits this fanaboyish, “Leave Brittney alone!” strawmanning.
It’s never enough to disagree. We have to act like his honor has been impugned. This was also true in years in which he was perfectly average by almost all metrics.
Tuukka is our Derek Jeter, without the championships and with better range to his right: simultaneously underrated and worshipped as utterly beyond reproach.
