And this series can potentially run until the end of next week. So, we're talking middle of ECF if dates hold.

It also might be a "cover" for GH if his wife gives birth and he wants a few extra days with the family. There is zero incentive for Stevens to say anything else, too; why put pressure on the guy by creating an expectation he may very well be physically unable to meet?
Yeah, I have to think they will sync of the conference finals as much as possible. Obviously one can still go 4 games and the other 7, but if you start one early and that only goes 4 or 5 games, and the other starts 4 days later and goes 7?If the C's can get past Toronto, let's hope the Bucks-Heat series goes the full seven games.
Another possibility: If the West series lag well behind the East, perhaps the NBA will delay the start of the ECF.
Maternity HaywardThread title candidates:
- Would it help if I got out and pushed?
- Adventure. Heh! Excitement. Heh! A Hayward craves not these things.
- This deal's getting worse all the time!
- I'm standing here in pieces and you're having delusions of grandeur!
- Dispense with the pleasantries and get back on schedule
- More machine now than man
Yeah, I doubt the start the East much before the West if it ends early. They will try to sync that up as much as possible. You can't start the East a week earlier, watch it be over in 4 games, while the West is on Game 2 and it potentially goes 7.Wouldn’t the East finals begin around when the West begins? Given they are just starting tonight perhaps we’re looking at 9/18-9/20 date?
Didn’t Van Gundy allude to him sacrificing being there for the birth in favor of being with the team?First things first, the C's have to win this series or it's a moot point. But I was hoping Hayward's wife would have had their child by now. Even if Hayward ankle improves enough for him to play in the ECF, it seems unlikely he'd be there for every game, unless the West series run long and the NBA keeps the East finalists on ice for a while.
He sure made it sound that way, but clarity is not SVG's strong suit.Didn’t Van Gundy allude to him sacrificing being there for the birth in favor of being with the team?
What tweet? The tweet from Gordon’s wife sure made it sound to me like they weren’t expecting him back.
Agreed. And this is such an outlier situation with the extra quarantining.I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a recent “honey, the Bucks are about to lose, this might be the best shot I ever get at a championship” conversation in that household.
He's a pro, has missed an entire season, but always pushed him set lf. I doubt there is anything conditional about his desire to play. That is who he is.I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a recent “honey, the Bucks are about to lose, this might be the best shot I ever get at a championship” conversation in that household.
Oh, I don't doubt his desire in the least. But precise context matters when you're talking about potentially missing the birth of a child. He's a pro, has missed an entire season, but always pushed him set lf. I doubt there is anything conditional about his desire to play. That is who he is.
Thanks. A few thoughts on this:It was an instagram:
I mean...she puts everything on Instagram. She has 96K followers; this isn't some podunk account that is being sought out by stalkers.Thanks. A few thoughts on this:
- I do feel a bit uncomfortable knowing that people (not aimed at anyone in particular) are searching his wife’s Instagram for clues on if her husband will return to play a sport or not. Obviously some people have taken this further and directly told her to get induced to have the child because of his injury. Something about the mixing of sports and personal lives has always creeped me out, with social media now breaking the physical boundaries that usually exist there. I have a longer personal story on that from friends playing in Europe.
...
25 seconds of searching on the internet led me to this. YMMVI mean...she puts everything on Instagram. She has 96K followers; this isn't some podunk account that is being sought out by stalkers.
It's definitely a bit weird/creepy, and if I were friends with the Haywards, I'd recommend that they stop posting their kids' lives on Insta. But Robyn has clearly made a decision that she's fine with it, so go with god imo.
Yea I don't see how it's definitive proof one way or the other.- it wouldn’t shock me if the right want to read that is he’ll return as the baby is being born. The kids will likely not be in the hospital. I could see a situation where GH flys home and goes straight to the hospital and then sees the kids later that day/next day before returning to the bubble.
Agreed. Frankly it's embarrassing as a fan of the team to know that such a thing happened. It's embarassing that people asked her about inducing....get a grip people.
I think the team's role here is simple: let GH know that they support him in whatever choice he makes and that he'll have full access to team resources---doctors, planes, etc.---to the degree he needs them. Then let him make a decision and support that decision, whatever it is, fully both publicly and privately.
Do anything else and they deserve what happens in future free agency, etc.

Well said.Agreed. Frankly it's embarrassing as a fan of the team to know that such a thing happened.
On the one hand, it's disgusting that people would message her about that to the point where she had to put out that video.25 seconds of searching on the internet led me to this. YMMV
I would suggest that this is not the issue you want to be making this argument on. The behavior of the fans that is being discussed is disgusting and unacceptable, period. On the one hand, it's disgusting that people would message her about that to the point where she had to put out that video.
On the other hand, if you're married to a public figure, you either can choose to remain as private as possible and maintain some expectation of privacy and dignity, or you can choose to be a public figure too, and accept that that comes with the price of a bunch of sausageheads thinking that you're part of the panoply of entertainment they have access to - but you can't have it both ways.
She doesn't appear to want it both ways, mind you - she seems to recognize the bargain she's taken by choosing the latter, and frankly seems pretty unperturbed even by the more-perturbing shit that happens. But let's not be shocked and appalled about what happens when you put yourself out there with public profiles and posts on The Internet.
No offense but....Which is why I made that statement my very first sentence.
My commentary is not about her, but about the expectations some people here apparently have.
The behavior of human beings is universally awful. When you become a celebrity you make yourself the object of those terrible human beings. From my college days I have friends that are celebrities so I've heard them recounting the horror stories. But it's also par for the course when you choose to live life in the public eye and most of them are prepared for it.I would suggest that this is not the issue you want to be making this argument on. Especially online. So much of what gets said online is something that people wouldn't dare say to each other in person. Social media really brings out the worst in people. The behavior of human beings is universally awful. When you become a celebrity you make yourself the object of those terrible human beings. Instagram accounts have a privacy feature that she clearly isn't using with that particular account (I'm assuming that like most she has public and private accounts), so she's clearly comfortable with the material she's sharing there.
I mean, there are certainly enough stalker stories to make any celebrity or celebrity spouse nervous. Some of them are really crazy.Oh god I could tell you some horror stories if it didn't mean violating the confidence of friends. They laugh off about 99.9% of it as man, people be crazy and stupid, but they all have stories of that .1% that makes them nervous.
+1, and it reflects on a culture set by ownership - where this x% isn't shown the door. #cancelAm I the only person who doesn’t feel embarrassed that I root for the same sports team as some shitheads who are outspoken on social media?
This isn’t fans shouting racial slurs at the stadium and not being dealt with, which reflects on all of us (not because there aren’t racists in every fan base, but because we’ve apparently not done as good a job pressuring our racists into silence as other fan bases have). Rather, this kerfuffle is something that could happen to any team, no matter how enlightened its management and the bulk of its fan base might be. Even Robyn Hayward seems to understand this.

What? No one said cancel the Celtics. This started with me saying I found it a bit strange people were going through a players wife’s Instagram stories looking for clues to when her husband may or may not play a basketball game.+1, and it reflects on a culture set by ownership - where this x% isn't shown the door. #cancel
Sure, see adam jones. That many fans don't get thrown out if there is a culture of anti-racism embedded in the organization, the fans and the systems that enable tose fans have ignored it. We need to hold the entirety more accountableI am confused
