Assuming Jackie isn't dealt today, what do they offer him for a contract at the end of the season? 3/$30?
Not to derail the trade deadline thread, but I think JBJ staying put should begin a conversation about what to offer him in free agency. I would engage him now at 2/16 with a team option for 2023/age 33. Something that he probably won't sign, but won't be insulted by and will pocket. You can convert the team option to a mutual option/buyout or vesting option as a sweetener if he finds a suitor to match that deal. I wouldn't be surprised if he can get three guaranteed years from someone else, which would become a more difficult decision but one I don't think ought to be rejected outright.
I think our experiences with Cold Bradley distort the player's value on the market to other teams. Look no further than the flock of suitors for a Pillar rental, or the valuation some other franchises have placed on two way players in CF (e.g. Kiermaier). While his YTD numbers are never stellar at season's end, it's a hot/cold issue, not a lack of talent issue. There's enough power where a hot Bradley is a top 5 hitter in a playoff lineup; I'm not sure comps like Kiermaier or Pillar are quite at that level when they are at their best at the plate.
All of which is to say, we underappreciate the floor and undervalue the upside of 2018 ALCS Bradley, and if this team continues to slog along for another year or two, he's someone who will draw interest at future deadlines. Given Bene's lost mulligan season and Duran's lack of high minors experience, I don't think it is wise to treat our outfield as a logjam situation. It's Verdugo, and we'll see. If Bene gets back on track, we might have to move him to bring in more pitching anyway.
