Maybe from a personality standpoint, but he was a useful player in his short time here. But good move, even if we don't know who the player we get will be.Addition by subtraction.
They pushed everything back, so it goes through Oct. 15.2019-20 International slot money? How does that work?
Got it, thanks. They pushed everything back, so it goes through Oct. 15.

Google him. Or check the Brazier threadWhy the Pillar hatred? What did I miss?
Or the 5 times other people have asked in this threadGoogle him. Or check the Brazier thread
We just got one of the 10 best 30-game stretches of Pillar's career in terms of offensive performance, and I'm still mad about it.Who gets to start the appreciation thread?
You're right. It's the Sox trade deadline thread.Literally no one in this thread had given a reason.
It's in quite a few threads and elsewhere on the internet.Literally no one in this thread had given a reason.
I mean...it was 3 days ago in a season where a lot of people aren't paying close attention. Is there any need to be smarmy about it? He came out and asked point blank what he missed. Just friggin' answer it or don't, you don't need to question his fandom bona fides. It's in quite a few threads and elsewhere on the internet.
You can be a Sox fan and not know who Osich is, but the Pillar discussion is all over the place and the internet
Ok. I'll start. He was a pillar of the franchise this season.Who gets to start the appreciation thread?
Thank you for asking. I had the same question. Why the Pillar hatred? What did I miss?

Anyone is a good return for him. All players matter!Great trade, who’d we get?
"Isn't the best" is being kind. Bridich is as clueless as Monfort, who hired and continues to pay him. That said, Pillar is so a Monfort/Rockies player. Unfortunately.Slot money is always good. Rockies FO isn't the best, maybe the PTBNL becomes a good one.
Sorry. I guess I am at a stage where what's going on in the world matters more to me than what goes on with the baseball team. I now understand better that everyone is not in the same place that I am in and might not be aware of Pillar's comments.I mean...it was 3 days ago in a season where a lot of people aren't paying close attention. Who are you arguing against? And what point do you think you're making? More pointedly, what are those beliefs that you feel he stood up for?Of course the facts are irrelevant. Roenicke strongly backed Pillar as a person, a teammate, and a leader. Loved watching him play and glad he stood for what he believed.
You are entitled to your opinion that his comments were "on point", but many found them insensitive and offensive, and as was noted in the other thread this isn't the first time Pillar said something massively offensive so he gets less slack here. The last sentence of that quote is a massively dickish thing to say in the context of a team decision on whether to support the lone black player on the team who didn't want to play following the shooting of yet another black man by the police. Why would Pillar think that uplifting and supporting JBJ in a time of need has some sort of negative impact on another group of people such that we cannot single him (and the black coaches and trainers) out? We can't take a second to listen to and acknowledge that black people's experiences with the police may impact the way they react to something like the shooting of Jacob Blake differently, because we might hurt white people's feelings if we do so? This is the same line of reasoning used to malign and misrepresent what Black Lives Matter means, and the fact that the Red Sox said nothing about it makes me sick. His original comments here (which I think were on point and just fine, no harm intended):
I think that this has degrees and this is where context matters. Knowing Pillar's past comments I don't think it's difficult to surmise that he's at the best just being insensitive.... but there are definitely times when attempts at trying to be sensitive (especially with older people) can twist them up and they end up saying some unintended horrible things. I've got a lot of flat-out racists in my extended family... but I lucked out to have a really great father that I never, ever ever heard anything negative or derogatory come out of his mouth about minorities of any sorts. BUT.... he would occasionally start to use the word he heard as a kid for "blacks" which I can't and won't use (not the one ending with "er" but the one ending with "oe") and then stop and start to say African American and then say "the blacks" with a large question mark at the end. He was trying to be sensitive but knew that he didn't have the language down correctly but was aware that it mattered. He was trying and knew he needed to. He would also ask some questions that could be seen as insensitive but were honest inquiries, and because of his history and the context... nobody was ever offended... just the occasional eye-roll.We need to stop excusing people saying insensitive and hurtful things because they didn't mean it.

It makes sense that both sides already know who it is since you couldn't trade anyone not on the 60 man roster. They're just waiting for that deadline to expire. Given the lack of pitching that Bloom got back yesterday, I suspect that its some AA arms.I've now seen two articles that claim in the lede that the PTBNL in the trade is known... but the articles don't actually say who the PTBNL is. Anyone know anything yet (I mean this in the general sense... not just specifically for the PTBNL)?
The teams know who the PTBNL is but that player is not on the 60-man roster and is therefore ineligible to be traded, hence no names announced until after the season. There's nothing to be gained by leaking it, so they don't do that either.I've now seen two articles that claim in the lede that the PTBNL in the trade is known... but the articles don't actually say who the PTBNL is.
