Looks like Hedges to Cleveland too. Still, less of a slam dunk package than I’d thought they’d get for Clevinger.Jeff Passan

Right-hander Cal Quantrill and shortstop Gabriel Arias are part of a larger package going back to Cleveland as Mike Clevinger heads to San Diego, sources tell ESPN.

Outfielder Josh Naylor is going to Cleveland in the Clevinger deal, too. He’ll immediately slot in to left field.
EDIT: Rosenthal says Joey Cantillo also in deal.
That's an awesome job by Cleveland.Jeff Passan

Three top 11 prospects in a very good system and three cost-controlled (fringy) major leaguers. I think CLE did very well here.

But, apparently, not a "slam dunk"That's an awesome job by Cleveland.
Yeah, and they are still a playoff team without Clevinger. Still good now and setting themselves up for the future. That's an awesome job by Cleveland.
That’s how I see it, yeah. But, apparently, not a "slam dunk"
I have said this a few times in recent years, but I think that CLE does their best to move their players to the NL if at all possible so they don't come back and bite them directly, and I think in this case it may have ended up hurting their return some.I don't have time to look into the Clevinger haul today, but my initial reaction is quantity over quality. I have zero interest in Hedges. They already have two excellent defensive catchers who at least hit better than him. Quantrill seems to slot pretty far down Cleveland's depth chart. I hope Naylor has more upside than first glance, but I was afraid the Indians would overrate him last year when the Kluber/Bauer rumors were flying… he was the most obvious piece from San Diego as both an MLB ready outfielder and the brother of their 1st round draft pick from a couple years ago. I hope Arias is a serious stud, because half of Cleveland's top prospect list is toolsy shortstops who are a few years away… there was no need to prioritize an eventual replacement for Lindor. I don't know… I hope it's just that I was wishing Atlanta would meet the asking price. Regardless, the Indians will always ultimately disappoint their fans with their cheapness.
Are you shocked they moved Clevenger? IIRC you thought the Covid stuff with him and Plesac wouldn’t result in this happening.I don't have time to look into the Clevinger haul today, but my initial reaction is quantity over quality. I'm a bit surprised they made a major move right now, but as I posted earlier this isn't about the COVID-19 protocol. Moving Clevinger almost certainly puts Plesac back in the rotation, so it would be the most bizarre punishment ever to ship one out of town to the reward of the other. As an Indians fan, it just gets frustrating that payroll is always the deciding factor. They can't be buyers without also being sellers. Everything is done to try to be a long-term wild card level team and hope luck eventually falls on their side (this is Cleveland, luck will never be on their side). Are you shocked they moved Clevenger? No, FA after the year.Villar has plenty of control still, right? he keeps bouncing around though as Eck would say.
Where do they plan on playing him? I guess he will play while Bichette is on the DL?
That's the plan with Bo on the DL.Where do they plan on playing him? I guess he will play while Bichette is on the DL?
They're allowed to opt back in?Villar was expendable because Isan Diaz is opting back in per the Mets broadcast.
They said on the broadcast that he was awaiting MLB joint committee reinstatement. I didn't realize that either. They're allowed to opt back in?
I'm pretty sure Nick Markakis already has done so.They said on the broadcast that he was awaiting MLB joint committee reinstatement. I didn't realize that either.
That didn't help but they have a seemingly unlimited supply of young cost-controlled SPs so it made some sense to sell high on him while he still had a few years left on his deal.I see Zach Plesac got called back up to take Clevinger's spot in the rotation and will start tomorrow for Cleveland.
Was Clevinger just a "dead man walking" with Cleveland after his nonsense a few weeks ago?
