Take a look at Washington's draft history in the first round. Specifically, look at 1969-1990. It's nuts.I just realized that, barring another trade to acquire a first down the line, they will go from 2017 thru 2021 without making a first round pick. That's insane. Is there any precedent of another team not picking in the first round for five years in a row?
It starts with a stretch of 11 consecutive years (1969-1979) where they don't make a single first round pick.
Then, from 1980-1983, they made three first round picks: Art Monk (1980), Mark May (1981), and Darrell Green (1983). Two Hall of Famers and a guy who had a 12 year career as a starting O-lineman, none picked higher than #18 overall (Monk). Hard to do much better than that.
Then, from 1984-1990, they go another 7 years without making a first round pick, before taking a guy named Bobby Wilson in 1991. I don't think I've ever heard of him until now.
In sum, they made only 3 first round picks over that 22 year span from 1969-1990, a stretch that included not making any first round picks at all during the entire decade of the 1970s. That's a pretty bizarre stretch that I can't imagine will ever be replicated.
