"Indians are increasingly unlikely to trade Trevor Bauer. Word is, ownership is reluctant to part with a big star with team in position to make playoffs and possibly even win division again."

Trading an ace will do this, but Franmil is no jokeThis doesn’t make Cleveland better now though.
They had no DH and now they have the wrecking ball known as Franmil (some might remember I wanted NY to move Andujar for him and Margot in the winter, and then sign Machado, before SD thought they had a shot at him, or Moustakas). This doesn’t make Cleveland better now though.
That's an all time brawl. Amir Garrett gets pulled from the game and immediately charged the Pirates dugout.Meanwhile, Puig's getting involved in a bench clearer in Cincinnati.
The only thing I can think is that they couldn't play both Renfroe and Franmil in a non-DH lineup and I think Trammell doesn't have to be on the 40 man yet this offseason. Today's 40 man overview in Fangraphs has this sentence: "You can see how trading one of the big league corner outfielders, like Hunter Renfroe or Franmil Reyes, would make it easier to roster Jorge Ona in the offseason."What in the WORLD are the Padres doing there?
That's actually an above average line for the Southern League. The SL and the EL have been strangely low offense; the SL doesn't have 20 guys with an OPS over .800 even if you set a cutoff at 150 ABs.SD gave up Reyes and Allen for Trammell? That will be a fascinating one to watch progress, that seems like a ton even if Reyes is defensively challenged, Allen is still really young. Trammell is young too (22 in September) but he has been pretty bad this year in AA (.688 OPS), Allen had some success at least in the bigs already.
The other thing is Trammell is a potential legit CF, which they needed more than the cornucopia of corner OF they had (Reyes, Renfroe, Myers, Naylor, Cordero). Jankowski is okay for a 4th OF if it came to that, and while Margot has come on lately, he's still lacking. It's also why the Padres and Mets were never really a fit, since both are weak in CF but have a lot of corner OF.The only thing I can think is that they couldn't play both Renfroe and Franmil in a non-DH lineup and I think Trammell doesn't have to be on the 40 man yet this offseason. Throwing in Allen too seems like way too much, agreed, maybe the whole trade isn't reported yet.

Plus this fixes their lineup a bit as they can move Ramirez back up to the #2 slot, Reyes slots in at cleanup, Puig hits 5th and all of a sudden their 1-5 is pretty damn good:God is this a good deal for Cleveland. Fills an immediate need at DH, especially, with Franmil, plus the long game The Franimal provides. Consider the following: Of AL teams, the Indians at DH were 14th (both to Chicago) in wOBA at .241 and wRC+ at 70. Finally, Bauers gets less ABs, plus Luplow and his .229 wOBA against RHP can ride some pine for Puig.
I said since last winter that if CLE moved him, it would almost certainly be to the NL.I don't think Houston or New York would have been able to provide that much talent. We can't be upset at this. Even if we could, Cleveland has to prefer sending him to a non-contender. Just big big trade all around for them. This is what the Mets should be doing.
Lost in the big deal is this deal, which is a steal for the Rangers. Allard's taken a step back this year, but he's still only 21 pitching okay at AAA. And to get a prospect like him for a 2 month rental RP is absolutely highway robbery, if for no other reason than for gambling on the upside. Martin's 33 and having a career year. Great job by the Rangers cashing him in.Source: #Braves acquire Chris Martin from #Rangers for Kolby Allard.

Love this deal for the Indians, especially since Bauer pretty much cemented his way out of town on Sunday.God is this a good deal for Cleveland. Not if they flip Trammell for SyndergaardThis is a horrible deal for SD
And if I might add to this...Reyes is just 24 years old, not arbitration eligible until 2022 and FA eligible in 2025. If San Diego doesn't see him fitting into their plans that's one thing, but that there wasn't a better haul available for Reyes is pretty questionable. Perhaps Trammell does get flipped for Syndergaard, but the fact that this hasn't happened yet means it that deal wasn't already in the works and IMO was a pretty significant leap of faith by San Diego.I’ll add to the chorus that can’t figure out how a major league established power hitter, a starting pitching prospect who’s reached the majors at 22, and a live lottery ticket in rookie ball, is the cost of a AA centerfield prospect, no matter how good.
Unless Trammell is supposed to be the next Mike Trout, I don’t see what the Padres are doing here.
This kind of smells like the Britton move. They just want to make 5-6 inning games. I admire their willingness to build their team differently."There are a lot of indications that Yankees will not add a starter today, maybe a reliever like Shane Greene. Folks not sure whether to believe them when they say the can stand pat. Mixed opinions on if they’re in on Wheeler, depending on who you talk to."

I think if they get another late inning reliever type plus Betances comes back that they really could go with an all opener strategy if/when they make the postseason. Green/Kahnle alternate as openers, your 4 SPs try to cover 3-4 innings, then the rest of the pen takes it from there. FWIW, NY is undefeated when using an opener so far this season (8-0).This kind of smells like the Britton move. They just want to make 5-6 inning games. Are you at all worried that Betances might not come back or come back effective? I've been monitoring him all year as he's on my fantasy IL, and he seems to just be having a lot of setbacks and feels like it might become a lost year. He's now not scheduled to start throwing again for a few weeks. Feels similar to the way that Glasnow's injury has strung out and the longer that keeps happening the less likely to get something out of them this season.I think if they get another late inning reliever type plus Betances comes back that they really could go with an all opener strategy if/when they make the postseason. I mean, until he is actually back and effective, I will doubt that he will be, but saying that I feel pretty confident he'll be back and effective (less so for Severino). FWIW, Betances is not on a mound yet but is throwing from 90 feet right now before NY's afternoon game. Are you at all worried that Betances might not come back or come back effective? For sure, but it seems to me that a DH, that young with that sort of power and contract control who is filling a huge need for a playoff contender should fetch more.Guys who are only DHs have limited markets, SD has been trying to move Reyes since the winter.
I liked the Ray/Archie Bradley package that was rumored yesterday, Bradley looked good last night.Well, at least that means the Stros won't get him. It's sounding more and more like the best we're gonna do is Robbie Ray and I'd be okay with that for a Frazier package.
Archie has balls. First thing he did last night was tell the umps to get the mound fixed. Then he blew the Yanks away, hitting 98.I liked the Ray/Archie Bradley package that was rumored yesterday, Bradley looked good last night.
