Or maybe it's just the talent isn't there? Leadership is just a crutch. They have plenty of it, but it won't do any good if they aren't good enough. We're back to hoping the Bergeron line scores multiple goals or we're screwed.
There were scrums all night, it wasn't like they just decided after the final horn that it was time to push and shove. I don't see how more of that would've changed the outcome.
There is a simpler solution for this game: Rask simply got outplayed by Anderson, and this is not an uncommon thing. Rask is a very good goalie, but he's been outplayed by both Frederik and Craig Anderson this year, and has routinely over his career been outplayed by Price. He simply has not stepped up in big games since 2013, and it's a problem.
The Bruins outshot the Sens. Outchanced the Sens. Had more possession and all those things. But Rask let in three goals that we can make excuses about, but Anderson made those saves.
It would be nice for the offense to bury chances, and they had many, but if the other goalie keeps outplaying Rask in these big games they won't be able to do anything. He just hasn't been good enough in these key games.
