I think Dunn is becoming the consensus #3 , or close to it. He is also probably BPA. I am not that high on Smart and would be fine with Dunn.

That said, by preference, in order is:

1) trade for Middleton (even if it means taking Monroe's contract)
2) Noel
3) trade for Okafor and an asset
4) Dunn (3 and 4 are close)
5) Bender
6) Heild
7) Murray
8) Brown (please no)

I'm a big fan of peace and harmony, but think that #3 would be an overpay for Middleton. I'd rather use the #16 and #23 package for Middleton/Monroe, #3 for Dunn to trade to the Sixers for Noel+ (or possibly to the Pelicans or Twolves), and then take whichever Eurostashes slide to the second round.

Danny has obviously done a good job overall, but he seems to have placed too little emphasis on shooting lately. The rumors suggesting that Dunn is coming here if we can't swing a trade suggest that isn't changing. (Though to be fair, drafting Dunn is probably the best bet for swinging a post-draft trade, since by all accounts he's the guy the most teams want to trade up to draft.)

I'm a little surprised that you (and others) have Hield so low -- he's easily the best player in the draft right now (only Dunn is close), and that 40-inch vertical made me think that people are underrating his general athleticism, and hence his ability to translate that college game to the pros. He won't be the best upside pick at #3, but he's basically the only player on that list who, barring injury, is virtually certain to have a decent NBA career (which I'd define as being good enough to get regular rotation minutes for just about anyone).

I would probably take someone with more upside at #3, but I would jump at the chance to pick up an asset to trade down to 5 or 6 and grab Hield there (assuming a game-changer isn't available for #3, and Philly isn't willing to package a likely future lottery pick with Noel). Your list, however, suggests that you think Hield should slide all the way to #8, and I definitely don't see that.

He's the best college player, that's what leads to picking guys like Jimmer or Morrison or Reddick.

All I know is that I want Korkmaz with one of the other first round picks and, as an NMSU alum, would love to see Siakam somewhere in the second round.

Would hope that + is a very big + after Noel. If 3 is an overpay for Middleton then it's highway robbery for Noel

I was only listing the players linked to the Celtics. I think Hield should slide much further than 8. I don't have a "big board", but Hield is not in my top 20. I don't see much potential for him to be more than a competent defender, and even that is generous. The vertical is nice, but it's not enough to give me hope that he can really develop into anything more than a shooter. Shooting is great, but the NBA is too dynamic for a single skillset player like that to be the goal with a top ten pick. And it's not even certain he'll be a top shooter - he only had one season at this level (unlike say, Redick).

I'm not a scout - I'm mostly an analytics guy. I'm relying on scouting writeups from others to assess that part of the game, so maybe I could be missing something big. If he can drive to the basket by himself dramatically better than I expect, then I'll be wrong. But from where I sit, his upside is just too low given he also has real bust risk as well.

I would imagine they have a good feeling as to who potential trade partners are eyeballing at #3 at this point. IF they've determined the teams shooting for Bender aren't going to bring the best package, eliminate him and put more pressure on the remaining teams.

Also if they think they know that one of the teams behind them wants Bender enough, it encourages that team to stay put and hope for Bender rather than trade out with one of the teams the Celtics are trying to get a deal with.

I had Dunn on this first thread, but had switched to Brown by the time the next poll came out. 13.8% on the other poll, so at least he was trending up.

Brown was my 2nd pick, I think that may have been true for a lot of other people who picked Bender as well.
