I nominate:

Andrew Bailey ( for being made out of glass)
Ugueth Urbina (2 U's, 2 K's, 5 attempted murders)
Izzy Alcantara
Matt Young (you never forget your first . . . hate)

Who else?

I put this in the other thread, but David Wells, Byung-hyun Kim, and Wil Cordero.
I don't know, Kim righted the ship in early 2003 after the Bullpen by Committee debacle. Without him, the Cowboy Up Sox weren't going anywhere. And they were able to ship Shea Hillenbrand out of town for him, so double win, I say!

Considering the HUGE boner that the organization seemed to have for him for a few years before actually getting him...Julio Lugo.
Wasn't Lugo here for 3 seasons?

Does Craig Hansen count, since he was only in Boston for 2 seasons? I can't complain about that draft obviously but that guy was a tool.

Fuck the rules, and fuck John Lackey and his ass face. He sucked before he got here, then he REALLY sucked while he was here, then he was literally worse than cancer, then he took a year's paid vacation, then he did his job for one season, then he whined his way out of town because he didn't like his contract. The most unlikeable player in my fan tenure.

None of this is true.

More than a few fans of the team before Lackey arrived in Boston hated him (thought he sucked) before he got here: the announcement of his signing was hardly filled with praise. He was then objectively terrible on the field for the team, posting one of the worst seasons by any pitcher for any team in major league history. Then he left his cancer-stricken wife.

What, specifically, isn't true?

Wow. It's like you put your post through a decoder. Well done.

Friggin' guy couldn't hit a basketball.

As an aside.....my least favorite Sox player of all-time was that worthless pile of dung named Tony Clark.
He sucked, but I dunno. Had he taken Foulke deep in that sphincter-clenching at bat in game six of the 2004 ALCS, I'd agree with you.

I'm still going Renteria. Being mortally afraid every time a ball was hit his way ruined that entire season for me.

Wil Cordero played two seasons 1995-1996. He was the player that made me realize I need to root for the name on the front and not on the back as a kid. Struggled with him being there after the violence against his wife and ex wife. Always despise him as he was the first (in now a long line of many) that ruined the fairy tale of my heroes for me.

I just really hated Jeff Russell. Looking him up, he was better then I remember in '93, but his complete disaster of a performance and constant whining in '94 bugs me to this day.

Fucking Wells. For some reason, I can't stop thinking about the phrase "deep contusion."

"I would've been a key factor in the Red Sox rotation, but I took a comebacker in the knee."

While playing, or later? If there's no time constraint, then it's probably Tim McCarver (although I had no objections to him as a player).

Renteria. I hated that guy. Hated. Him. Hated signing him, hated his body language, hated his noodle bat, hate hate hate.

I was going to nominate Marc Sullivan and his 33 career OPS+. But then I realized he played 3 seasons here (plus cups of coffee as a September callup for 2 more).

Is it maximum 2 years, minimum 2 years, or exactly 2 years?

Renteria was only here 1 year, so unless it's the "maximum," (seems unlikely, but I'm not the OP), he wouldn't qualify.

I fucking hate Mike Lansing more than Lugo, Wells, Lackey and Crawford combined. And I hate Wil Cordero more than Mike Lansing.

If it's "minimum of two years," Mike Torrez deserves mention, because he threw that horrible BFD pitch, and then I had to keep seeing him in Sox uni for like 4 more years. Plus he seemed like kind of a jerk.

Edit: OP: did Izzy Alcantara do something ugly I'm not remembering, or do you just hate him for playing to his natural talent level of suck?

Mike Marshall and Wil Cordero. Marshall just got kicked around for sucking, though I'm not sure what expectations were.

Cordero, obviously because of him beating his wife.

I especially dislike guys we got hat were no good when we gave up something good for them.
Willy Mo Pena for Bronson Arroyo
Andrew Baily for Reddick
Danny Cater for Sparky Lyle (I know Lyle spent 3 years here but it was one too many)
Ramon Mejias for Pete Runnels (the switch out of Fenway killed a batting champ)
In a smaller way...Bagwell for Anderson
Gagne for Murphy
These guys have a special place, even though it wasn't all their fault management goofed.
I'm sure their are a few I forgot but there should be extra dislike for having to watch the other guy play great for several years.

Cesar Crespo

2004: 79AB (.380 OPS, 20K/0BB)

In retrospect I can't believe he only had 79ABs that season, I could've sworn it was more like 200.

Kim pitched 79 innings of 147 ERA+ ball for the 2003 Sox, including getting ridden like a mule by Gump.

At one point, he pitched relief in 5 days in a row (Aug 30, 31, Sept 1, 2, and 3), and then 6 times in 7 days (Sept. 17, 18, 19 and 21, 22, and 23). He was their best reliever that year, and it's not particularly close (only Timlin has a case).

He blows a single save in the post-season (game 1, no less) and gets booed by the home crowd two days later.

The fans deserved that middle finger.

There should be a special waiver here for Lugo - even though he lasted 2+ years, his name became a) a synonym for suck and b) shorthand for an especially contagious strain of suck ("the Lugo is spreading to the bullpen")

Shortstop for the 2007 World Champion Boston Red Sox washes away some of his suck for me though. He made just one error in the post season and actually hit very well in the WS. Sorry to prop up your SOS (synonym of suck).
