So the Dodgers and Mets both went to $325M, and he chose the Dodgers (unsurprisingly). Perhaps he used the Mets offer to get the Dodgers to match.
Reposting from the other thread that the pressure on LA this year is going to be intense. Anything less than a championship will have to be viewed as an utter failure.
Am I a Dodgers fan now? Mookie is my favorite baseball player, I'm obsessed with Ohtani, I was so excited to watch Yamamoto this year and was praying I wouldn't have to watch him do it with NY. I d'know, man. You gotta be impressed, they're not f-cking around. (I live in Los Angeles, fwiw)

I absolutely cannot wait to watch the Dodgers now, and the massive ratings they're going to generate next season are going to completely put to lie the idea that enforced parity is good for the sport.
You should have told them the Mets offered you an adjustable JetBlue-sponsored ball cap and two-for-one hot dogs during all Tuesday afternoon games if you would jump on their bandwagon instead. The Dodgers definitely would have matched. Honestly, you could have done better.

First, it’s awesome Steve Cohen must be so mad right now. I like the Dodgers. LA is awesome. They lost to us in the WS, which was nice, and all their players are likable, including Mookie and Robert’s.

Of the teams that could have afforded Yamamoto, the Dodgers were the least offensive to me if the Sox couldn't get him. The Dodgers obvious weakness int he post-season was the starting rotation. Kershaw is very much on the downside of his career. Yamamoto is basically replacing vintage Kershaw.

If you have the patience of waiting for 1 or 2 hours to exit the parking lot, Dodger Stadium is really a great place to see a game. I'm thinking tickets are going to be a lot harder to get than last year.
I’m assuming this is an Mookie is on the Dodgers now troll. If so, it serves only to highlight JA’s level of frustration that the Yankees didn’t get Yamamoto. Which is lovely.
This was my biggest concern, hopefully he will do what makes the most sense financially for him and his current team and wait until 2027.
Wait, what? This makes no sense for so many reasons, of course I was talking about Ohtani and how he deferred most of his deal before pivoting to be the Dodgers' top salesman to Yamamoto.

They’re doing things the way some people play an MLB The Show franchise knowing they’ll never make it past the first season or two.

I would say that if he comes next winter for almost no money, he will 99 percent be a Dodger. If he waits until 2027 when he will get an even bigger deal than Yamamoto (assuming he stays healthy and dominant), then I think it's more open especially as some of those Dodger backloaded deals start kicking in.

Yeah that was my first thought as well but this seems more extreme than even the Yankees of the early 2000s. That said, I could be misguided. It's just that MLB seems very committed to improving the fan experience with the base paths, the bases themselves, the pitch clock, etc. But, this problem still exists. I'm probably just being a whiny Boston fan.
Is it a proven bad thing to have a big bad in sports? We were that in the NFL for 20 years. NBA seems fine going from Heat to Warrior to Laker to Celtic super teams. Maybe it’s good for ratings to have one team vs the world.
I definitely think it's good for the league. Many become bandwagoners and the rest become sworn enemies. It helps keep the league in the public consciousness. It's not like with parity you're going to have 30 teams all having great success. And you can still have some level of parity outside of that one super team / dynasty.
Can the Dodgers sell their international TV rights on their own? Because if so, I have a feeling they might find some customers in Japan...

Yeah, it seems intuitive that this would be the case. It’s like when Tiger was winning everything. Or Tyson. When one team is a dominating force it becomes interesting at least in a meta sense to see just how indestructible the beast is. It’s basic storytelling in a way.
Fair point but those sports have salary caps. I'm wondering if lacking a cap in baseball (I know the odds it will never have one), creates an enthusiasm problem whereby fans of most teams cannot even dream of getting a decent set of elite players. This must drive down anticipation and eagerness for a new season among these fans. Someone will probably chime in and say the Dodgers are not new; this has always been a thing in MLB (like RC's insinuation above). But, it does seem that when the two most prized "free agents" go to the same team and that same team is still likely to go after the third or fourth guy, we are in a different era than the arms races of the 2000s. Jesus. Now I'm speaking out of turn. IDK.
