I don't know much about draft upsides, etc, but I was surprised to see no thread for one of the Pats' 3rd round picks.

#101 -- final pick of the third round is Yodny Cajuste, OL from West Virginia where he played Left Tackle

With Trent Brown got with his Ring, the Pats have to hope Isaiah Wynn comes through or it's all on Yodny's relatively slim shoulders (only 312 pounds)

He has a torn quad that will keep him sidelined about three months, so I assume that impacted his grade. Greg Gabriel (former Bears Director of Scouting and now draft writer for Pro Football Weekly) really likes Cajuste; had him tied for 2nd best OT in the draft.

I watched his TCU game and he was generally matched up against 1st round Collier. Cajuste handled him pretty cleanly 1-on-1. Where Cajuste really struggled was in space. Tended to lunge, and missed much more often than he hit. He has some correctable issues (and no one is better than Scar) but we'll see if Cajuste can stay healthy. He's had a couple of knee injuries, but he looks and plays the part of NFL LT.

Pro-football reference lists Wynn at 310 pounds. So Yodny is taller and heavier than Wynn, if that's accurate.

When I want to evaluate the OL I go to two people, John Owning and Brandon Thorn. Both like him quite a bit. I’ve posted about him here but he was my favorite swing tackle. Some injury concerns and he is raw (played since senior year of HS) but he has a good ceiling and might be the heir apparent to Cannon later and a swing guy now.

Thorn wrote that his fit and development was more important to him than some more polished prospects. After the pick was made he thought it was the perfect fit. Scar is such a great asset.

Edit: some of my favorite bits from Waldman’s pod with Owning and I will be paraphrasing, and that’s being charitable - worth a listen. Mental toughness and being a nasty mother fucker is important and he has it. Cajuste didn’t give up many sacks but after one in particular the guy tries the same move again and Yodny lifts him and pancakes him. He rebounded from the mistake, immediately processed what happened and then killed the poor son of a gun for trying it again. He is athletic and can get to the second level. He is more suited for gap/power but is scheme diverse which is nice because the Pats do a lot. He has violent hands and good hand placement.

I think where he needs help is technique in pass sets. That’s something you can teach and hopefully it sticks.

I listened to the Ringer NFL podcast this morning and they were saying that after 4 years in the Dante Scarnecchia offensive line school, he will probably sign the largest contract ever for an offensive linemen. Worked for Solder and Brown.

Shoot, Brown did a 1 year grad program at Scarnecchia University.
