The lack of support for their manager from everyone at that club should be an embarrassment. Maybe after they are relegated, they will look back and regret treating their managers like they are worthless.
Yeah, they were too quick to pull the trigger on Guidolin in the first place.

I think this stint reinforced what we already know about Bradley. As a club manager, his strengths lie more in being a builder than being a great tactician. If given a transfer window or two, he can build a pretty nice squad and man-manage them to success. He is not a skilled or nimble enough tactician to work wonders on short notice with a team that isn't of his own making. In the EPL, he just isn't afforded enough time to do his thing. That's the way the EPL works and that's why Bradley's tactical shortcomings mean that he won't be able to hack it there.

As others have said, he was not in a position to succeed with Swansea. It's too bad - he should have known that he was walking into a bad spot, but he should also have known that this likely was going to be his only chance to manage in this league. I can't fault him for taking the job.

At worst, Bradley will have plenty of opportunities in MLS and in Scandinavia, where is highly regarded from his stint at Stabæk.

Timothy Chandler made someone's Bundesliga XI for the first half the season. I have no idea if that's actually merited, but he has had a strong year in general.

Former youth NT forward Mario Rodriguez has moved to Sonnenhof Großaspach in the 3. Liga. He's bounced around a lot lately - he left Gladbach's reserves last summer, signed with Dresden, and was immediately loaned to Chemnitz, where he didn't play much. For whatever reason, his loan with the latter and contract with the former have been canceled.

Keaton Parks, an unheralded CM who signed for Varzim in Portugal in the summer of 2015, made his first team debut in September and appears to be on the verge of a transfer. Second division leaders Portimonense have put in an offer and there are rumored to be others as well, from first division clubs.

Ethan Horvath has been sold to Club Brugge, as rumored. He joined Molde in the summer of 2013 when he turned 18, made his cup debut in 2014, and took over the starting job in the middle of 2015 after Ørjan Nyland was sold to Ingolstadt. He had a nice run in the 2015-16 Europa League, when Molde got out of a group with Ajax, Celtic, and Fenerbahçe, though they were quickly knocked out by Europa League specialists Sevilla.

After 1.5 years as a starter at Molde, he's on to the Belgian league. I like this move, since it isn't too large of a leap. He won't have guaranteed playing time, but he has a winnable fight for it.

--

In other news, Thomas Rongen has been hired as chief scout by the USSF. He's always been better at digging up dual-nationals and recruiting than being a coach, so this role makes sense for him. He already has cast some light on a few interesting-looking players that I hadn't heard of. One is Maurice Malone, a German-American forward who has scored 17 goals in 16 games for Augsburg's U17 team. Another is Federico Oliva, a very young forward for Atlético Madrid who just won best player at a youth tournament.

Erik Palmer-Brown's loan to Porto has expired and he's returned to SKC. That's disappointing to me because all indications were that he was doing really well with Porto B. Not exactly scientific, but from what I heard random Porto fan boards gave him good reviews. There have been rumors that (a) Porto's finances are not great right now and they are trying to cut down on costs and/or (b) a deal might have been hindered by the nature of EPB's representation (i.e. he didn't have the "right" agent or wasn't part of some weird third-party ownership scheme). I don't really know if either is true.

Haji Wright has been invited to join Schalke's first team during their winter camp. If he does well, you never know. Dortmund's winter camp last year was the platform Pulisic used to elevate himself to the first team. I wouldn't count on it happening for Wright at this very instant, though.

Josh Gatt, whose contract at Molde has expired, is on trial in the 2.Bundesliga at Nürnberg.

Numerous reports suggest that Bob Bradley has been offered the Norway job. It's thought that Ståle Solbakken was the first choice, but he didn't want to leave FC Copenhagen.

Norway is in pretty bad shape for WC qualifiers. Hopefully an offer would extend through the 2020 Euros.

That's good. It was a tough break for Hyndman to get hurt late in the preseason and then have Wilshere arrive on loan. Howe is an exceptional coach, so we should assume Hyndman is getting good instruction. Maybe this is a showcase to attract loan offers? Logging minutes he rest of he season would help him make a push for a bigger role next year (with Wilshere presumably gone and more opportunities available).

Subbed off at 56 minutes with Bournemouth down 2-0. They ended up losing 3-0. I'm unsure how Hyndman fared, but I hate to see the early-ish hook.

Now I'm seeing several articles saying Hyndman is heading up to Rangers on loan for the rest of the season. Could be a fine move if he breaks into the rotation, and hopefully even more than that.

The match reports say Bournemouth was severely outplayed yesterday by a Millwall team playing a classic 4-4-2. Sounds like the entire side was unprepared for the match, not just our boy.

Good to see CCV do well with what have been limited opportunities right now. This season, it seems like he's been stuck in that limbo where he's not quite good/trusted enough to play much for the first team, but he's slightly too necessary to keep around as emergency depth to be sent out on loan. I'd love for him to go to a Championship club that could use a CB for the rest of the season, but I haven't seen anything to indicate that that will happen.

Hyndman's loan to Rangers is official:

ESPNFC is reporting that Gedion Zelalem is "nearing a move" to Borussia Dortmund. They reported earlier that Dortmund had "interest", which sounded like agent-driven bullshit to me. I'm still not convinced that there's fire with this smoke, but they are doubling down on the rumor. A guy who isn't breaking into Arsenal's squad won't have an easier time at Dortmund, though.

RSL U-18 midfielder Sebastien Des Pres signed his first pro contract with Blackpool yesterday and made his first team debut today in whatever they call the Football League Trophy now. Des Pres has been part of the US U-19 team in the recent past.

One-time dual national hot topic Michael Hoyos has moved to Deportivo Cuenca of Ecuador. He had been playing for Boca Unidos in the Argentine second tier.

Haji Wright got into a first team friendly for Schalke.

Looks like the horrible, weeks-long exile of the Bob Bradley coaching tree from Europe might finally be coming to an end.

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — The New York Red Bulls have been one of the best teams in MLS during Jesse Marsch's two-year stint as head coach, and his work with the MLS club has impressed the parent club at Red Bull Salzburg enough to bring him to Europe.

Marsch is set to join Red Bull Salzburg as manager, with assistant coach and former U.S. national team midfielder Chris Armas lined up as his Red Bulls replacement, sources have confirmed to Goal.
http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110/major-league-soccer/2017/01/11/31413522/sources-chris-armas-to-be-named-new-red-bulls-coach-as-jesse

Perhaps not.

Jesse Marsch will be returning to coach the New York Red Bulls, shutting down stories that he is heading to Europe to take over Red Bull Salzburg.

League sources tell Metro that Marsch, head coach of New York, is currently on a flight to Los Angeles to join the coaching staff ahead of this week’s MLS SuperDraft. The source also confirmed that Marsch “will be the New York Red Bulls head coach in 2017.”

Nice goal for Paul Arriola in Tijuana's 6-2 win over Puebla last night:

Joe Corona also scored. Arriola apparently fouled to concede a PK, though. Arriola has started the first two games of the Clausura after coming off the bench the entire Apertura. Corona made his first appearance for the club since the 2014-15 season. He had been on loan at Veracruz and Dorados for the last 18 months.

Fabrice Picault is now persona non grata at St Pauli and they are trying to find a way to get rid of him. His manager is Ewald Lienen, who once upon a time had a dispute with another American attacker after a wrist-tapping incident...

Former Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark, who is currently out of contract, is rumored to be signing with AC Horsens in the Danish Superliga. Clark is a known quantity in Scandinavia since he started his career at Hønefoss in Norway.

It now seems likely that Marsch is staying at NYRB, but it's clear to me based on a variety of reporting that something is/was up and probably fell through.

Desevio Payne missed the first half of the season with an injury, but he started in Groningen's first game after the winter break and scored:

I liked him at the U-20 World Cup and still have hopes that he can develop into a right back that the US can use at the senior level.

No contract for Gatt. He's now on trial at Rapid Vienna

Goff says that Zelalem could be loaned out soon:

I hope it happens. His career has really stalled over the last year or two, so looking to get first team minutes elsewhere would be good. The alternative is Arsenal's U23 team.

Very nice assist in the 89th minute for Hyndman on his Rangers debut after coming on as a sub.

Terrible giveaway right to him, then a one-touch through-ball for the go-ahead goal.

So glad to see him get off to a good start since midseason loans are often quite tricky.

Yedlin had a pair of assists this weekend for Newcastle. The first and the second.

Paul Arriola assisted in a road win at Chivas. After only coming off the bench in the fall, he's started all three Clausura games.

And a few other things:

Goalkeeper Steve Clark has completed a move to AC Horsens on a six-month deal.

18 year old winger Isaiah Young has signed with Werder Bremen. Young has flitted between the US U19 and U20 teams, but is considered a bit raw. He was committed to Wake Forest, but it was expected that he'd be signing a pro contract sooner or later when his name disappeared from their roster ahead of what would have been his freshman season this fall.

Here are those two Yedlin assists, both on the full bore. The first was a one-touch pass on a nifty set play.

He also defended really well; at one point the ball was in the middle and he was in the buildup on the right when NUFC lost the ball, he raced back down and intercepted the ensuing pass to the guy on his flank. Crowd went nuts. His speed is insane.

Great news with Pulisic.

I don't understand why soccer players are so eager to "move up" to teams like Liverpool. Dortmund are one of the greatest clubs in the world in a fantastic league, and both the club and the league desperately want him to be a success not only for his sake as a player, but also for the Bundesliga's American audience.

I'm glad Pulisic and Dortmund withstood offers and kept him where he's comfortable and developing, and at a club where he's clearly valued and has a vision for his future. At 18 he just needs to be playing, who knows what would happen elsewhere. But players generally want to move to the Premier League because EPL spends double the wages of any other league. Dortmund fortunately is among the handful of teams outside of England that can compete with EPL when they need to. In four years, he'll only be 22, he'll be able to cash in again.

...Yedlin has frosted blonde hair now? Does he think he's Messi, or Lance Bass?
Yedlin toned it down when he started to enter the USMNT picture and when he was a new guy at Spurs. Now that he's more settled long-term at a club, he's going back to a life of questionable hair choices that he lived while in Seattle.

Apparently Hyndman was 53/53 passing in that game as well.

Gedion Zelalem has joined VVV Venlo on loan for the rest of the season. Yes, that's the Dutch second division...

Ben Lederman, a midfielder who was one of the kids caught up in the illegal transfers that resulted in Barcelona's transfer ban, has finally re-joined La Masia. Nice to see.

French-American forward Jordan Siebatcheu has gone on loan from Reims to Châteauroux in search of playing time. He scored three goals in Ligue 1 early last season and ended up making 25 appearances (mostly off the bench), but even after relegation he's only managed 335 goalless minutes in Ligue 2 so far this year. Châteauroux are in the French third tier, so perhaps he'll get more of a run there.

Forward/villain Steven Lenhart has re-emerged from a 2.5 year injury absence in....the Japanese fourth division, signing for a club called FC Imabari. They won't know what's hit them.

Winger Romain Gall has signed with GIF Sundsvall of Sweden's Allsvenskan. He was the leading scorer of the CONCACAF U20 qualifying tournament in 2015 despite not actually being that good. He's bounced from Lorient's academy to a forgettable stint with Columbus to the Nyköpings of the Swedish third tier. At age 22, he's moved up to the top division there, which is a nice move for him.

More news from the Netherlands:
  • Groningen has sold starting right back Hans Hateboer to Atalanta, which means that Desevio Payne is going to take over the position for the second half of the year. Payne's had a quiet year because he has been out injured until mid-December, but I was a big fan of him from the U20 WC in 2015.
  • Utrecht has unloaded Rubio Rubin to Silkeborg of Denmark. It just wasn't happening for Rubin. He had a very promising 2014/15 season, but missed almost all of 2015/16, and this year he couldn't find his stride. He has a lot of talent, but he has struggled with finishing. If he can't improve that aspect of his game, he's going to need to find out where else on the field he can be a contributor.
  • I noticed that Zelalem's new club VVV Venlo is in first place in the Dutch second tier. I'm distrustful of mid-season loans to first-place clubs because those clubs have little incentive to shake things up and give chances to new players. Maybe I'm still scarred by Jozy's disastrous loan to Xerez.

AFAIK there has been no announcement from the club, but Nick Taitague is starting for Schalke in an official U19 match against Dortmund today:

That means he's officially on board. Haji Wright and Weston McKennie are also starting for Schalke. Will Pulisic is on the bench for Dortmund, but I think he's with the club this year entirely to make sure his cousin settles well at BVB. The lesser Pulisic is planning to enroll in Duke this fall.

It's not uncommon for our youngsters to go abroad to big clubs but have basically no chance of making the first team at their club. However, I think all three at Schalke have a shot.

Some good news on the injury front:

  • Geoff Cameron made his first appearance since October as a late sub against Spurs today. It's a race against the clock, but if he can get fully fit in time for the March WCQs, that would be great.
  • Lynden Gooch is back and has showed up in Sunderland's 18 a few times, but has not played since November.
  • Bobby Wood got injured during warmups last weekend, but was back in the 18 yesterday, so it doesn't seem too serious. He didn't play, which is a good in this case - Hamburg lost 8-0.

Should also note that John Brooks looks to be back close to 100%. I might be behind the curve on that one but he's played every minute of all 7 Hertha matches in 2017, including last weekend's vs Bayern (which should have been a win until Lewo scored an equalizer on the last kick of the match) and all 120 of their DFB-Pokal loss at Dortmund.

We're down two goalies, too, right? Howard and Hamid? Guzan should do OK out there for march but I hope Howard makes it back to compete for the starting job in June - I just trust him way more than Guzan to make the extraordinary occasionally happen in net.

Emerson Hyndman's early success at Rangers has continued. He's been a big hit at Ibrox so far.

He nailed the crossbar and then scored a 90th minute winner against St. Johnstone on Wednesday:

Freddy Adu is considering offers from Sandecja Nowy Sacz in the Polish second division and from unnamed Asian clubs. He was unable to get much playing time in the NASL last year. I'm honestly a bit surprised he hasn't retired yet.

Matt Miazga has been starting again for Vitesse lately and has been in good form. He made one publication's Eredivisie Team of the Week twice in a row and then did well as Vitesse advanced to the Dutch Cup final. He's been in and out of the lineup all year, largely because his passing hasn't been up to the standards that Dutch demand of their defenders. Apparently he's improved a bit in that regard. If that turns out to be true, this loan might actually work out in a take-your-medicine sort of way, even if he hasn't racked up as many starts as you'd like to see.
