Bumping this because I want to combine three deadline deals to show some nice work by Cashman:
  • Warren for $1.25M in international bonus money
  • Austin and Rijo (young pitching prospect) for Lynn
  • Shreve and Gallegos for Voit and $1M in international bonus money
So move that around, Austin for Voit, Warren for Lynn, and Shreve/Gallegos/Rijo for $2.25 in international bonus money.

Both Austin and Voit are 27, Voit is seven months older. Austin is hitting great so far in MIN but he has always been bad against RHP and Voit hits both sides equally well. More importantly, Austin is out of options this year and Voit has two more. Time will tell but the extra flexibility for Voit is huge (as is he), I say mild win Cashman.

Warren for Lynn, both pending FAs, Lynn has been a big upgrade, jumping into the rotation almost immediately. Big win, Cashman.

And the third one, you don't like to give up Rijo but NY has so many high-ceiling arms and you clear two 40 man spots and get to add a few more allegedly blue chip 17 year olds. I again say mild win, Cashman, so win/win/win.

Josh Donaldson is going somewhere by midnight, TOR wants him gone. He has cleared waivers and they are talking to a few teams.

Sources: Yankees are among teams talking to jays about josh Donaldson. Toronto would have to pay down the 4M to go by at least half. Yanks will absolutely not go over threshold. (They are thought about 2.8M under)

Late inning defensive replacement at 3B? He has basically only played SS and Urshela is sitting in AAA as an experienced great defender at 3B who has even been hitting down there the last couple weeks, but that is my only guess.

Funny, I wanted NY to sign Hechavarria back in 2010 as a IFA, to groom as Jeter's replacement. He never figured out how to hit though, .636 career OPS.

Oh, I think I get it. Gleyber is not an especially good defensive SS (at least right now), he is way better at 2B.

So any game Didi isn’t playing, now or after he’s back, Hechevarria at SS and Gleyber back to 2B makes the defense much better at both positions. Also Hechevarria has a lot of AL East experience, I always irrationally liked him a little.

That is a really old post of mine, NY already spent all of their international money (and got a ton of top-rated guys), they were never really in the Mesa sweepstakes. That is a swing and miss for BAL, though, assuming they even took a full-fledged swing. BAL was the only team with more international money left than MIA, now there aren't many guys left to give it to.

Yeah, I posted that July 30, most of their money was gone within a week, already agreed upon deals that they just needed to get the extra money to complete. In the end, they got 4 of the top 12 guys plus #30 according to this list, Vargas and Rodriguez were what they used the money they got at the deadline for instead of waiting around to have a shot at the Mesas.
