Unlike Nola, this potentially buys out just one FA year instead of 2, the option year. The 4 guaranteed years are all years he would have been under team control anyway, and his AAV goes up about $5M for this season, putting NY around $218M currently.

The interesting thing to me here is that clearly NY isn't worried about Severino's second half struggles last year, so that's good to know.

For this season, sure. Once he becomes arb 2/3, we are likely saving a pretty good amount.

Good news. I like it. I wonder what this means for other members of the young core.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few more deals like this, especially if they aren't going to get Machado and have the space.
