I'd take Pawtucket or Lowell or any other place within an hour's drive.

probably the first time in my life I kinda wished i was in Iowa.

I can't wait to see Coach Manny execute a double switch, sending his 3rd-base coach in to pitch and having a fan from the stands come in to play left field.

They have a double header that day
Damn.  I was looking forward to having Manny in The Mix.  With Pedro and Millar around this enormous potential for entertainment.

This Theo's idea? Seems hard to believe.

(Judging by the article, it is. The same guy who didn't want Manny around when he was productive suddenly sees him as a potentially good influence on minor leaguers? Strange.)
On the other hand, wasn't it often reported that actually Manny was a guy who practiced very hard, was often the first one out to the batting cages and the last one out. I'm pretty sure I saw that reported on several occasions

It was, often by one Theo Epstein. He pretty much gives the same "student of hitting" speech here that he gave many times in Boston.

Would it be possible for Manny to be worse than the current crop of left-fielders in Fenway?  Bring him back for a try out.  He was productive in major league baseball more recently than Grady Sizemore, after all.

Manny said more than once at the Q&A with season tix holders that he was excited to be back in baseball and that his goal was to eventually work for the Red Sox. Trot was shaking his head and laughing. Damon was just looking on in disbelief. Lol

Manny and Pedro working for the Sox simultaneously would not only be the best thing ever but also explode the head of every radio show host. So yes, I'm all for it.

It will be interesting to see if he can be a good hitting coach.  Stranger things have happened.

"What do you mean?  I dont know how, just hit the ball...that's all I do.  When they throw it...you hit it."

I'm sure he could be. Even in that interview posted with he and Ortiz and Millar just goofing off before the 2004 reunion last week, when asked about his new position he started talking about staying deep on the ball in the batter's box, the position of your hands, etc. Manny's prowess as a hitter cannot be overstated, but his knowledge of the science has definitely been understated. He was never a "just show up at the last minute and hit" type of player.

I require video of Manny's alleged 450' bomb in his first game playing in Iowa.

For what it's worth, the HR was in extended spring training -- not Triple-A Iowa.

Great damage control. With PED guys piling up behind Hall eligibility and changing demos, my advise as an agent/advisor would be -put off eligibility as long as possible, rehab image, and make a run for the Hall later. At any rate, I hope he gets back on the tube for me to see. Miss me some Manny being Manny.

If I was a AAA pitcher, I would absolutely throw him a meatball, just so I could bore people later in life about the absolute bomb Manny hit off me.

Cubs also hired Kevin Youkilis.  I guess that is going to a be fun reunion during their consultant's summit.

More details from ESPN on the Manny and Youk hirings.  Some quotes:

"Manny got rave reviews from everyone he worked with," Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said Tuesday. "... He did a great job of fitting in, sharing his wisdom and experience and being a good influence.

"He was very open and honest with guys on what not to do from his past and lessons that he learned along the way."

Epstein said that Ramirez would be in uniform with the Cubs at Wrigley Field for about one homestand every month.

"He is really smart," new Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. "We had great conversations about hitting. I thought we developed a good relationship. He knows how to get a point across. It's another resource to draw upon. He's a lot of fun to be around."

...

Youkilis, 35, will serve as the Cubs' scouting and player development consultant. He retired in 2013 after an 11-year major league career.

Youkilis will assist the front office by scouting amateur and professional hitters in Northern California and will work with hitters in the minor league system under the direction of the hitting coordinator.
