I just looked this up and I have never made an error on this site so nobody check me.  However by my count, this is only the eleventh game seven in the past forty years.  Of course, the ratings will probably suck, especially since there is probably some stupid reality television show on and its opening night for most of the NBA.

How can MLB thank its many fans if they are all off watching Survivor or the Nets and Celtics?

Bruins in 2011, Penguins in 2009?, Pirates in '79. I can't think of any more road teams to win a Game 7 in a championship series in the past 40 years. It's not easy, regardless of the sport.

The 1975 Reds are only 39 years ago, unfortunately.

I am terrified. I want to cry.

However, Tim Hudson is an All-Star, and I have all the faith in the world he will be awesome tomorrow. The Giants' best relievers are rested and ready. You win Game Five to buy yourself some wiggle room. Two chances for one game. Well, here's our second chance.

It's been a great ride.

Edit: I feel physically ill.

Game starts at 2AM here, and I have to run a meeting at 8:30.  So here's the plan.

Go to bed at 9, wake up at 4 and catch the last three or four innings.  Go back to sleep from 5:30-6:45.  Oh and somewhere in there, there's pray that the internet is working.

It starts at 1am here (Central European Time) and I have to teach a class from 9-10am and another from 10:30am-12pm. So my plan is to go to bed at about 11, bank two hours of sleep and wake up at 1. After the game I'd have potentially almost four more hours of sleep. Seems doable.

Missouri MLB teams are 9-3 in game 7 of the World Series. 8-2 if you don't include 1985. :q:

Giants win.  Bochy pulls Hudson after one batter and brings in MadBum.  Bumgardner shuts down KC while the Panda makes Royals fans cry.

Hoping for rainouts for the next month or so, so Sox can remain World Champions a little longer.

That said, I've been charmed by the Royals.  I have zero reason to dislike the Giants, but pulling hard for KC tonight.

Which clearly will make a big difference to how the game goes.

I'm pulling for the Giants; I went to probably half their home games this season, and lived there for a year and a half up until a couple of months ago. The Giants were one of the few things I really liked about that town (and their ballpark). Won't be too disappointed if they lose. Hope it's a tremendous game.

Championship Game.

Huh? Did something change in the KC front office between the start of the playoffs and now?

Dave Cameron on how both teams can maximize their pitching.  I think he greatly overestimates (1) MadBum's likely effectiveness over multiple innings and (2) either team's interest in pushing their relievers to pitch multiple innings if their starters are doing OK.  I think both managers will let their starters go as deep as possible, with a short leash once they're going through the lineup the third time (barring a Peavy-like collapse).  I doubt either manager will proactively pull a starter just because he's facing any batter for the second or third time.

50 men on the combined rosters, right? How many get used?

The backup catchers almost certainly won't get used.  And yesterday's starting pitchers won't either.  The Giants burned Machi, Strickland, and Vogelson yesterday to save their better pen arms  -- highly unlikely we'll see any of those guys.  KC had no bullpen guy throw more than 1 IP yesterday, and the day before that was an off-day, so theoretically those guys could go tonight but they're at the bottom of the depth chart.  So 20 for SF and 23 for KC are the upper limit.  Unless the starters are really dealing (which seems unlikely, since it's both teams' 4th starters), the hooks will be very quick and a lot of pitchers will be used.  You do however get fewer guys in the game in the AL without the need for pinch hitters and double switches and so on.

Yeah, can't talk about it really, but let's just say they didn't act like they've been there before. (which of course they haven't in a long time)

Sorry, you're right.  The larger point is still the same though -- neither ace is starting, so it's less likely either will come out and put up several consecutive scoreless innings, which is probably what would be necessary to keep the managers from going to the bullpen early.

Hudson has been waiting for this his whole baseball life. I like the Giants in this game if I were betting on it. Either outcome is ok with me. Both teams are likeable.
There is nothing better than game 7 and nothing worse than no baseball until spring.

Here's some weird trivia that at a certain point in my life would have made me extremely proud.  Mormons to start World Series Game 7s:

Vern Law 1960 (Pirates) - this is the Mazeroski game
Bruce Hurst 1986 (Red Sox) - oof
Jack Morris 1991 (Twins) - 10 inning masterpiece that almost single-handedly put him in HoF
Jeremy Guthrie 2014 (Royals) - expect something memorable, apparently

If not for Hurst you could bank this one already.

I absolutely love this part of tonight. Love seeing guys like him and Peavy get rewarded after years of irrelevance/close but not quite.

So no Missouri team has ever lost a Game 7 at home.

Go Royals!

After thinking about it, I now agree with those advocating Bochy starting Bumgarner.  With all of the KC Big Three pen guys likely available for more than 3 outs, the Giants cannot afford to fall behind early.  If Bumgarner could give them even three good early shutout innings that might be decisive.

looked it up on Baseball Reference and Giants franchise have never won a closing Game 7 in a world series. So winning while being the road team in a game 7 isn't the only odds they are up against.

This is the kind of bullshit that drives Bill James crazy.  How the Giants franchise has fared in Game 7s, how Missouri teams have fared, etc., has no relevance to tonight's game.  They are not "up against" these odds.

All in on it tonight as a baseball fan!  You can't ask for much more than this.  Go Giants!

However, can we dial back the Kim Hudson TV shots and the ridiculous Erin Andrews in the stands interview with her tonight?

Red sox are still defending World Series Champs.

This is how a kid growing up in the 80's in Salt Lake City ends up a Red Sox fan.  It was that or the Angels (Wally Joyner!).  It's a weird culture.

QUICK HOOK!
If the Royals are up going into the 4th, I would be stunned if Herrera isn't warming and would expect him to come into the game if the current pitcher gives up a hit.

Yeah, we're talking about 1912, 1924 and 1962. I don't believe it has much relevence to tonight's game.

Game sevens in any sport are pretty awesome. Looking forward to tonight. I hope it's a great game. If the Sox were involved, I'd want them to have the other team buried by the third inning, but tonight I want an all time classic.

Off the top of my head the last pitchers to start with 2 days rest were Lonborg in 67 and Lolich and McLain in 68. Longborg was a disaster but the other two pitched complete games while allowing only 1 run. Still, the Giants would have been better off if they had started Bumgarner in game 4.
