He doesn't need to start. He just needs to come in as soon as Hudson gets into trouble. Basically Pedro vs. Cleveland in 1999. I expect similar results given how bad KC has looked against him. They look completely bewildered out there..

Again, he's never pitched in a game on even three days rest. Yet you expect him to be dominant on two days rest?

Yeah, but Pedro had about a week of rest after torquing his back after 4 innings in game 1.

I don't think he's ever pitched a single relief inning in his life

“@PeteAbe: According @JakePeavy_44, Jonny Gomes was in the house on Saturday. “He brought some of the ’13 spirit,” Peavy said. #boysclub #mensleague”

If the ball rattles out of my glove and you snag it with yours in mid-air, you get credit for a catch (and I don't). If the ball stays in my glove and you take it out of my glove, then it's no catch and the ball is in play.
OK, so what if I leave it in your glove (unconscious fielder)? When does it become a hit? If he awakens and hands it to me...
What should the base runners do?

Tonight was glorious. Madison Bumgarner is a gift. This was a beautiful night of baseball.

Juan Perez and his near-HR was also glorious, especially since Oscar Tavaras was a good friend of his. He found out about his death in the middle of the game, like the rest of us. Reportedly, he threw his phone away and was weeping in the clubhouse, yet composed himself enough to play. That's incredible and special and heartbreaking and tragic and wonderful all at the same time.

Jake Peavy is not Madison Bumgarner, but he's due for a good start. And even if he struggles, the Giants have in the bullpen a well-rested strike-thrower who just a few short months ago set the record for consecutive outs recorded. Bochy is going to play Game Six like it's an elimination game. He doesn't like to leave it to actual elimination games.

For all of the talk about the Giants' bad hitting and the Royals' spectacular pitching, these last couple of games have been blowouts in the end. These next two games will be tough, but I believe that the Giants will prevail. Just need to win one game... Just one.

The game can't wait forever. Presumably the ump on the scene would render a "catch" or "no catch" decision within a limited time.

In any event, it doesn't really matter for baserunners. Many players don't know the rule, but baserunners are free to tag up and start heading for the next base as soon as a ball is touched by a fielder. It doesn't matter how many times the ball is juggled by one or more fielders before finally being secured for a catch. The baserunners can tag up and run at first contact.

So, the original point of Blanco flipping the ball from his glove to Panik or Crawford instead of reaching in, grabbing it and throwing it...it's an out because it was a voluntary, conscious action instead of him being knocked out or anything. However, Bruce Bochy or outfielders coach Roberto Kelly, please tell the knucklehead to reach in and throw it from now on.

The wrong side of the bridge....
So, unless I'm missing something, if the Giants can prevail, they will become the first NL team ever to win three WS titles within a five-year period. In the AL, the Yankees have done it umpteen times, the Athletics twice (once in Philly and once in Oakland), and the Red Sox once.

But seriously, it's a throw day anyway and it's Game 7 of the World Series. You use everybody.

I'm not saying they wouldn't turn to him for an inning, or even two, if the situation calls for it. But the original poster was suggesting that a) Bumgarner would be as effective under those circumstances as he has been as a starter, and b) he could go as long as Pedro did against Cleveland (which, as noted, was on four days rest).

There's just no way of knowing

If it goes 7, I doubt Bumgarner pitches unless either Game 6 or Game 7 goes into extra innings.  The Giants pen has been effective, and they have an excellent multi-inning option in Petit.   If the Giants burned their pen in a long game in Game 6, then I could see him pitching in Game 7, but otherwise, I doubt they'd start him on two days rest or bring him except in the most extreme situation.

Don't sleep on Lincecum either  - Bochy has shown that he isn't afraid to go to him out of the pen if need be as well.  Bumgarner is the Giants ace pitcher and the key to their rotation's future at age 25.  Bruce Bochy has two rings and never has to buy a meal in San Francisco again, even if the Royals prevail in this series.  It would be shocking if he risked a young, star pitcher's health to get a ring that is essentially a nice-to-have, regardless of how many times Bumgarner might ask into a game.
