Unlike Shields, Bum doesn't give a rats if his fielders have trouble behind him

Well, he won't let it get to him.  That said, they asked Ishikawa who he wouldn't want to piss off on the Giants after he shoved Peavy out of the way coming home from his LCS walk-off and he immediately mentioned Bumgarner.  I suspect that Ishikawa will be on the opposite end of the dugout from him during this half inning.

The twist was what I mentioned upthread: the fielder who caught the ball was out cold. The baerunners were "tagging up" when his teammate came over, took the ball out of his glove to throw it in. It was ruled not a catch since the release was not intentional, though the ball never hit the ground.
But the ball never hit the ground. How is that different than a play where one fielder bobbled the ball and another grabs it and secures it?

In the unconscious scenario, the second man makes the "catch". (And do the runners leave early?)

Royals need to work the count and get him out of the game if they want a chance to win this

If the ball rattles out of my glove and you snag it with yours in mid-air, you get credit for a catch (and I don't). If the ball stays in my glove and you take it out of my glove, then it's no catch and the ball is in play.

Re: Sandoval, we've covered him several times in various threads but know what you are getting with him - he looks great in this series and has been pretty good in the playoffs.  But the guy will drive a lot of Sox fans crazy with his lack of plate discipline.  He led MLB in O-swing% this season and was second last year...to beloved former Red Sox A.J. Pierzynski

Case in point.

Wooo...

I was all set to say tonight that Shields is about as clutch as an automatic transmission, but he hasn't pitched too bad thus far. Nice catch by Cain there equalizes the sucky defense he got last inning.

Cain. Not a GG according to MLB. That award is such a fraud
Thinking he was kind of "punished" for splitting time between center and right, but nowadays, outfielders are voted as just "outfielders" aren't they? Cain played CF in 93 games this season, RF in 77.

It's been a fraud award for a while. After Jeter "won" it multiple times when there were many AL SS better than him in the field.

Other way around. They used to be voted as just outfielders, but three CFs would win the award every year so they broke it down by position to give the corner OFs a chance.

True, but the special ones usually rise up and win it, like Andrelton Simmons, not that Cain is in that class quite.

OK, so Cain may have lost out because of split votes.

HR making a mountain out of a mole hill there. The ball hung up for a long time and you could see either CF or RF had it.

More of the same from last game, every play was outstanding.
