Would you trade for Derrick Rose?

Some rumors out of Chicago that Rose and Butler are not getting along on the court. It is conceivable that Chicago, if they go max deal on Butler, could be looking to move Rose if they foresee Butler as their future (obviously for a hefty price).

Now, considering this is possible, would you gamble and trade the Celtics' top chips for D. Rose.

I wouldn't give up the Brooklyn picks for him but other than that (without rechecking to see which picks might end up as top 5), my initial reaction is to say that everyone and everything is movable.

God no.

If you asked, would you take Derrick Rose for free?, I think I'd still say no.

I don't believe he'll ever get back to anywhere near where he was, and I'm not willing to pay him 2/41 to gamble on it.

The elephants in the room are the knee injuries, which we can't get the full picture on without some inside info.  If its just his ACL tear and his resected meniscus, I'd be tentatively OK with that, especially on just a 2 year deal.  If his cartilage is shot, then all bets are off.

The performance over the past 2 years when he has been on the court hasn't been great of course.  But if Danny can't use his cap space on something better, I'd probably take a flier on Rose for the next two years. He's still only 26. I wouldn't give up major assets for him though.

Depends on the price. If it's just Smart and filler, I'd consider it. Can't see the Bulls making a deal without Smart coming back.

You want to give up our best young player on a rookie scale salary in exchange for a inconsistent, usually injured guy making 20 million annually? Fuck. That.

Ha, wouldn't we all.  Unfortunately, Butler is healthier and better and Chicago knows it.

Butler is a RFA, so they too can throw a max deal at him.  Plus if they arent getting along it might be more likely Butler will sign elsewhere.  I know the Bulls can match, but maybe throw one of our firsts at them in a sign and trade

I'd throw in Bradley and a couple 1st rounders to sign Butler in a sign and trade, but I very much doubt the Bulls are interested. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

The Bulls would be dumb to do anything other than match for Butler.  If there is any truth to the above rumors, Rose is the one who should be shopped (if anyone will take him), not Butler.

Totally agree that is what the Bulls WANT, but if they can't unload Rose and Butler makes it clear that he refuses to play with Rose, what can they do?  Sure they can sign him and let him sit out or play pissed off, but this is such a player's league that he will A) probably get what he wants and B) he could easily cost his team wins if he is not fully invested.  The problem with moving Rose is I think the only way a team trades for him due to his injury history is a non-lottery first rounder.  And the Bulls would never give him up for so little, so I cant see a trade for Rose really happening.

If they do a sign and trade with Butler, the teams most notably connected with him are the Laker, Knicks and Spurs.  Boston definitely has superior assets, chances to win(omitting the Spurs of course), and a clear path to top dog than any of them.  From what I've read he likes Chicago, but wants to be his teams #1 option and Chicago doesnt really want to pay him max money.  It will be interesting to watch it all play out

And to actually respond to the thread, I would trade for Rose under the right circumstances, but the max I would offer is the LAC first.  I would give up nothing that has real value

Chicago would be fine with paying Butler's max charge if they could remain under the luxury tax line. I wouldn't give up Smart for Rose, or any of the future picks, but I wouldn't be adverse to Boston using their cap space to take a flier while sending the Bulls some depth players, plus any draftees from the 2015 pool (assuming Boston hasn't traded up).

The last couple years Rose wasn't any good, even when he could stay on the court, but there's always the chance he could become average-to-good again.  I would take him off the Bulls hands in essentially a salary dump for Avery Bradley + Gerald Wallace (assuming those numbers work).  That deal might be attractive to the Bulls: Avery is arguably a better player going forward (factoring in durability) and Gerald Wallace is an expiring contract which should have some value.  For the Celtics, we get an option on Derrick Rose re-establishing his value by the trade deadline in 2016-17 or being a big expiring contract we can flip (along with a bunch of picks / young guys) to land a disgruntled star.

Match any offer on Butler and tell him tough luck.

Bulls aren't letting Butler walk.

Kris Middleton may end up being a better value than Butler anyhow. Between Greek Freak and Parker returning from his ACL, Middleton is blocked unless they move him to the 2. I'd just as soon throw a pile of cash his way.
