Would you accept a Last Place Finish as "Payment" for a World Series Championship?

Would you take it?

  • Yes, WS championship is worth a last place finish

  • No, I want to be competitive always

  • Yes, heck, I'd take multiple last place finishes for a title

"accept"? What's the alternative? If it happens it happens. Nobody in their right mind would be happy with it. but whatever. Que sera, sera

I accept whatever happens for what it is. Sports are unpredictable, no matter how many here want to believe otherwise.

Occasionally your squad unexpectedly does great (2013.)

Occasionally they don't (2019 to this point.)

Occasionally you get one, then the other (2011, or 2004 in inverse.)

Often times there isn't an explanation why, either.

Nobody on this team is trying to lose. Shit happens! When did we become MFY fans?
Cmon...no one is complaining about not being in first place or anything. This team’s performance has been stunningly bad

And I don’t buy Simmons’ rule.
Ironically enough, Simmons doesn't either - he later wrote that he regretted and disagreed with that rule:

Of anything I ever wrote, I regret the five-year grace period most. I created it three weeks after the Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVI, my first Boston title in 16 years. It had been so long since one of my teams won anything that I had forgotten what it felt like. So really, my creating rules for fans of championship teams was like Kate Moss releasing a manifesto for eating fatty foods. How the hell would I know?

Here’s what I learned from 2002-10 (six Boston titles in all): You can’t stop being a sports fan just because your team won a title. Sports are all about the highs and lows. If you don’t get swept up in them, you become detached, and eventually you won’t care as much.

Last year is done with.

The team has the highest payroll in baseball (and expensive tickets) and just doled out big bucks to Sale,XB and Eovaldi on top of lofty salaries to JD, Price,Porcello and a nice chunk to Betts.

Expectations are to win, not lose. We already had a few recent last place finishes, at least one of them may be said to have prepaid for 2018

Some of these guys are getting it done but Sale, Porcello and Betts have to be better. Not worried about Betts TBH but Sale and Porcello are concerns as is the bullpen , despite a good start.

And JBJ cold streaks are getting old. Consistency may be the most underrated and least measured attribute in baseball.

Wonder how the poll would read if you expanded it by age group. Betting all over 60s fans would say The Title was worth it. I am over 60. Last year was fabulous. This is the first year EVER I have not bought MLB TV OR extra Innings. Looks like a good move.

What led you to not purchase it this year?

I like watching good baseball being played. Having to sit through years of bad baseball for one year of great baseball is a trade I would have taken 15 years ago. But having gotten over the hump (times four), I think I'd rather see the team play well all the time even if they don't win the whole thing. The summer isn't very much fun when the home team is finding new ways to lose every night.
