Based on the context, it was on the hit, not on the tag. The coach said he thought it would have been an out given the throw.
I think it was Woodward rationalizing it. The throw was offline and McCann had to short hop it and he dropped it too. Taylor likely would have been safe.

I’m talking about the use of the words “no” and “go” by a 3B coach. They’re too easily confused. I teach “go” “tag” “stay” “score”.

Maybe the Astros don't say "no" either, right? Maybe Taylor just screwed that up.

The coach here said, "back, back, tag, gotta go, gotta go." Taylor said he thought he heard "no," but maybe the coach was just being kind by not saying, "yeah, we don't say no, we say stop, and that's Spring Training stuff you fucking moron."
