yeah, it was a bit of a joke. Better to give up a solo HR after getting two outs, like Jansen, than not get anyone out, like Giles.
No, but there is some truth to it. He's given up a homer in each of his last two outings, with last game's homer being huge. He's still formidable, but he's lost the air of infallibility.

Fun facts: of the 8 pitches Giles threw, only one of them was a strike not hit safely. 5 balls and two hits.

Seager saw 6 pitches in 4 at bats. One at bat were three strikes for a strikeout, two first pitch balls in play for outs, and one first pitch single.

Gurriel with the second worst WPA of anyone in the game at -.126, only ahead of Giles (-.433). It's not quite appropriate for 'ball don't lie', but I'm going with that anyway.

I'm trying to think through the playoffs. Has any closer truly been lights out? I guess Chapman
He blew the one game to Houston where Altuve scored from first to win 2-1, but they're still alive there if Sanchez holds the ball and makes the tag (Correa on second, two outs).

California. Duh.
As a Red Sox fan who has a soft spot for the Dodgers because of my dad who died 21 years ago, anyone mind if I start the game 5 thread, too?

I like the Dodgers, but Pederson seems like he'd be easy to hate.
Keep in mind, this is a guy who was an All-Star in 2015, who was sent to the minors this year to clear space on the roster for Curtis Granderson. He was left off the NLDS roster. He never complained at all. He took on the roll of cheerleader and never said a word about his playing time.

He's been through some adversity, so I cut him a little slack when he celebrates hitting a huge bomb in the postseason.

To be clear, I don't have any issue when the Astros celebrate big plays...until they do it and then complain when the other team does it. Say what you want about the Dodgers showing emotion, but every player asked had no issue with the Astros celebrating in game 2 and 3. When Houston goes nuts for their big plays but then complain about LA showing emotion in big moments...come on, man.

I have nothing against any of the celebrating, but I say that as someone who hates every unwritten rule in every sport. It's undoubtedly irrational, but something about him bugged me even back in 2015. But it's not enough to keep me from rooting for the Dodgers. My grandfather took me to a game in Dodger stadium back in the 70's and I've had a bit of a soft spot for them since then.

Great start by Alex Wood despite not having his best stuff. He telegraphed his last pitch on the Springer HR that broke up the no-hitter and ended his night.

Joc Pederson has had some big home runs the past two postseasons for the Dodgers.

Game 5 of the NLDS last year against the Nationals. Nationals lead 1-0, Scherzer had shut the Dodgers out for six innings until the first pitch of the 7th to Joc.

Scherzer is pulled after the HR, and the Dodgers score three more in the inning.

Game 2 of the world series, Astros lead 1-0, Justin Verlander had a no-hitter with two outs in the 5th until the first pitch to Joc.

Verlander is pulled the next inning after a Chris Taylor walk followed up by a Corey Seager two run homer.

Pederson turns 26 in April, and enters his first year of arbitration this offseason. Maybe the Dodgers can work with him and get him back to the player who hit 51 HR his first two full years in the majors. Right now he looks like a LHH CF-LF who can get very hot at the plate for a month of the season. It's not exactly what is expected from the minor league hype, but the same can be said about Colby Rasmus. Big Postseason so far for Joc, leading up to an even bigger offseason for him.
