you look at the hit disparity in this game and yet you have to feel like Houston escaped big time. Dodgers hit 4 HR and lose.

Springer's HR was not the "biggest of all", Ken, Marwin off Kenley was.

Stupid little thing, but watching Springer -- who has had to work really hard to overcome a stammer -- on tv being interviewed to a national audience is kind of heartwarming.

I can't get over that there have been 22 HRs in extra innings in WS history, and 5 of those were tonight.

Not unprecedented, although that is the only other instance before tonight. Hopefully, like that series, this one goes the full seven as well.

I'm exasperated but excited out of my shoes right now. What do I do now with all this excess energy? This kind of game only amps me up wanting more in the wee hours of the morning.

Fun interview with Altuve on FS1. And hoky crap does the contrast of him standing between Arod and Papi.

BTW I'm joining all you guys who like Arod as a broadcaster. Is there like a club or something so we can feel better? Guy knows his baseballl!

Dodgers had four pitchers throw a total of 15 pitchers combined....Wonder when the last WS game was where one team ran out of both bench players and bullpen guys (excluding the next two starters).

Nice 3 out line for Cingrani - 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K - on just 5 pitches, all of them strikes. Took me a second to figure that out/remember what happened that inning....

Crazy game all around, but an instant classic - glad I stayed up for that one, but now can also not get to sleep...

I don't fault Roberts' aggressive bullpen management at all. You should play to give yourself the best chance to win in the scheduled 9 innings and make the best of it if you end up in extras, rather than leave unfired bullets in your gun. Roughly 8% of MLB games go to extras. 2/3 of those end in either 10 or 11 innings. Conventional wisdom is way too conservative in saving assets for extremely low probability scenarios. He got his very well-rested closer in with a lead for a 6 out save. He blew it. Shit happens. He still had 3 relievers available heading into the 10th. One of them who had been pretty good soiled the bed. Shit happens. By the time you're down to McCarthy in the 11th, he's going to stay in until his arm falls off and you just take your chances and hope your offense comes through. I much rather be in that position than stick too long with a guy who has nothing earlier in the game and never make it that far.

It's surprisingly common to see something in a baseball game that you've never seen in the thousands you've watched, but this one had at least three I can think of:

1) Five extra inning home runs, first time ever, regular season or postseason.

2) The ball that bounced off Taylor's cap directly to Pederson when it could have gone anywhere.

3) The Devenski pickoff attempt that only picked off Laz Diaz.

Jansen threw three innings in a postseason game last year when he needed to and he hasn't been worked so hard in the postseason this year, I didn't have a problem with that or even with Hill only going 4. I thought he pulled Maeda too quickly, he is a starter and he has been untouchable but he pulled him after four outs/25 pitches.

Maeda has huge lefty-righty splits. They brought him in when they did because it was a run of 5 righties in a row, but they weren't going to leave him in past that.

He's been a starter, but they are using him as a key 1-2 inning reliever in the postseason, and it's worked well. He's picked up a few MPH on his fastball when not having to worry about extended outings.

Ah ok, then maybe it was a good gamble all the way through, Jansen had never blown a postseason save before and he's been so damn good.

Are we sure #3 wasn't intentional?

I’d love to know if Culberson thought he tied it.

Culberson insisted later he was simply caught up in the moment, and knew that he didn’t tie the game, but couldn’t control his emotions.
“That’s adrenaline,” Culberson said. “That’s a good feeling. I never would have imagined hitting a home run in the World Series, and I did that.
“I pointed to my parents in the stands and pointing to my wife. I was just having fun out there, nothing more than that.”

Utility guy (is there a better name for a position than "utility man") hits World Series homerun? He could run the bases naked for all i care. Dallas Keuchel has already achieved more MLB success than Charlie Culberson ever will; let him be happy.(BTW--Is there a better name for a utility player than "Charlie Culberson"?)

The only sentient comment Joe Morgan ever made on TV was something like, "At its best, there is nothing better than baseball." Last night was that.

I guess it's only OK for Houston to celebrate their homeruns with emotion...

In a series featuring Brian McCann on one side and Yasiel Puig on the other, it would have been stealing money to make a bet that something like this would be uttered at some point. And though it wasn't McCann who made this tremendously stupid comment, I do still expect there to be some dust-up between McCann and Puig. You just know McCann seethes every time he sees Puig's tongue.

I am excited about tonight's game, and thought about starting a game thread, but vorp speed has started the other two, and I don't want to step on anyone's toesies. Whazzup?

This is so fucking stupid. No he didn’t win the World Series but this was a homer IN THE WORLD SERIES you’re talking about Dallas. Complaining like that is annoying enough in the regular season where everyone gets on their high horse.

The Astros had like 8 players on the field after their home runs doing dances and chest bumps. Just be mad that you didn’t pitch well enough in private.
