You've got a friend in me.Too bad he's the white zinfandel of the music world. Christ, he sucks.
Pixies or BBV or Joey MacFor the James Taylor haters: who would you want?
J Mascis to channel Hendrix with his version of the anthem.Pixies or BBV or Joey Mac
Or better yet, the entire BSO with Keith.
Liv Tyler’s dad?For the James Taylor haters: who would you want?
How about just Liv TylerLiv Tyler’s dad?
They're game 2 - edit: BSO, that isPixies or BBV or Joey Mac
Or better yet, the entire BSO with Keith.
That would be encouraging.Cora says Pomeranz's velo is up to 93-94 on his fastball. Threw live BP to the guys yesterday and his stuff was good. Says this is similar to Fransisco Liriano last year. Pom is going to be used as a matchup lefty against a reverse split guy.
That's really good news. Where did you see this?Cora says Pomeranz's velo is up to 93-94 on his fastball. Threw live BP to the guys yesterday and his stuff was good. Says this is similar to Fransisco Liriano last year. Pom is going to be used as a matchup lefty against a reverse split guy.
Cora is on WEEI now. That's really good news. Where did you see this?
James Taylor also sang the anthem at game 2 in the ‘04 World Series. I’m fine with it for that reason alone. He was born at Mass General, attended Milton Academy, and got his start playing Martha's Vineyard coffeehouses, so I guess he qualifies for Red Sox nation, treacly music notwithstanding.
Hopefully we see more fire (From Sale, Mookie, JDM, e.g.) than rain tonight.
Cool! I had a feeling this decision wasn't completely out of the blue. Cora always has a reason.Cora says Pomeranz's velo is up to 93-94 on his fastball. JT is OK but this steady stream of old white guys isn't doing much for baseball's future growth. I am sure Boston is loaded with talented musicians from all sorts of categories besides the classic rock retreads. How about an opera singer or jazz quartet or something? For the James Taylor haters: who would you want?

Joe Walsh, Life's Been Good (to me, so far). For the James Taylor haters: who would you want?
A long ago GF consumed massive quantities of JT and Arbor Mist. To this day, I can’t listen to him and not smell that.Too bad he's the white zinfandel of the music world. Christ, he sucks.
Plus, people seem to be forgetting that Workman is terrible.Cool! I had a feeling this decision wasn't completely out of the blue. Cora always has a reason.
OK, and in case you missed my point, what if they did something, anything, besides running the same old people out there? Is it really necessary to keep the brand stuck in the 70s? Given how different and young and diverse and interesting this team is, could they at least ask around to see if there's anyone under 50 who can play the anthem? I don't really care what race they happen to be, but an ounce of inclusivity wouldn't kill them either. What if the opera singer or the jazz quartet were old white guys?
*head explodes*
(In case you missed the point, race shouldn't and doesn't matter, and an opera singer isn't exactly playing toward your target market of sports fans.)
Yeah, an opera singer is just what the Millennials are looking for.JT is OK but this steady stream of old white guys isn't doing much for baseball's future growth. So an opera singer will bring in the teenagers?JT is OK but this steady stream of old white guys isn't doing much for baseball's future growth. Actually, I pretty sure these 10 or so posts is as much discussion as the anthem singer will generate no matter who they chose unless they reincarnated Michael Jackson and had him moonwalk out there and perform.OK, and in case you missed my point, what if they did something, anything, besides running the same old people out there? Compared to James Taylor? I'd take my chances. At least opera singers can seriously sing.So an opera singer will bring in the teenagers?
EDIT: Damn you BMHH!!!
Yeah, it's true. I can't stomach another position-by-position comparison. It's a handful of games, I don't care what some guy's OPS was against 150 games of national league pitching.LOL, this anthem shitfit is proof SoSH is now Brady in the tunnel before SB36.
We’re ready.
Wait. That's Randy Newman. Or am I missing a joke somewhere? You've got a friend in me.
Cowsills? For the James Taylor haters: who would you want?
Well I can tell you that my three daughters who will be watching the first couple of innings with me would prefer Meghan Trainor who is from Nantucket. For the James Taylor haters: who would you want?
Every time you post on this my reaction is like the dude in your avatar.Compared to James Taylor? I'd take my chances. At least opera singers can seriously sing.
Getting worked up over an anthem singer is nuts -- unless Werner decides to give Roseanne another shot.
Wait. That's Randy Newman. Or am I missing a joke somewhere?
James Taylor's fine. I can understand what he's saying and it isn't hard to mimic him for Karaoke. Plus, I'm an aging white guy. Also, it could be a lot worse. Mark Wahlberg? The possibilities are endless.
If LA beats us in the anthem singers category and we win all the other battles, the Sox will end up ok.
This is why I want Joey Mac. He took over for Marky Mark on NKOTB.Also, it could be a lot worse. Mark Wahlberg? The possibilities are endless.
.
Speedy Ortiz. It's too perfect. For the James Taylor haters: who would you want?
The only anthem I remember from all the games I've attended was a 2004 Sox-Rockies game in Colorado. Charles Johnson's wife sang the national anthem and skipped an entire verse. She realized it midway through and proceeded to sing that same verse again (this time at the correct spot in the song).I've been to one World Series game in my life, Game 1 in 2013. Mary J. Blige sang the national anthem. She's not white and not too old, particularly five years ago.
I'm sure she did a fine job, but I really don't remember it. I do remember Napoli's three-run double in the first, Lester's gem -- starting a 1-2-3 double play the only time the Cardinals really threatened -- and Ortiz's two-run homer after Beltran had pulled back a homer earlier.

This is now posted on WEEI:Cora is on WEEI now.
Said that chances Mookie plays 2B is slim, but it could happen in a double-switch situation, where he might have to move there for an inning, then could go back to OF.
Compared to Hembree and Workman I'd say Cora has nothing to lose with Pom here. This is now posted on WEEI:
Alex Cora on OMF explains how he plans to use surprise roster addition Drew Pomeranz in World Series
[...]
In his weekly interview with OMF Tuesday, Cora said Pomeranz’ velocity is back in the mid-90s after it dipped for the majority of the season. With that in mind, Cora says he’s confident Pomeranz can retire some of the Dodgers’ left-handed hitters in key spots, such as Joc Peterson and Cody Bellinger –– much like little-used lefty Francisco Liriano retired Bellinger for Houston in Games 6 and 7 of the World Series last year. Cora also pointed out the reverse splits that some of Los Angeles’ right-handed hitters are sporting, such as Yaisel Puig.

I dunno. I understand him to be a d'bag, and the maker of this video - who missed most of MM's dbaggery - seems to agree:
