Boston’s hopes will rest on the shoulders of starting pitcher Brandon Workman, who was just recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to start in the place of injured pitcher Felix Doubront. Workman has made three starts in his MLB career and has fared quite well, allowing no more than two earned runs in at least six innings in all three outings.

If he pitches well, how long do they find a way to keep him up?  Do they phantom DL Clay if he gets blown up again?  Or Peavy if he keeps getting hit hard?  Can they afford to send Workman back down after two strong outings if they still think they can get back into the playoff picture otherwise?

With Napoli, Victorino, Doubront and Middlebrooks all on the DL, this could be a stretch that breaks the team.  They will likely get two starts out of Workman before Doubront is ready to return, and Workman could struggle, which would make it a moot point.  But if he pitches well, can they really afford to keep him on the shuttle instead of the mound in Fenway (or whatever stadium they are visiting)?
