I have been doing more and more public speaking and find that I am really hindered by having to hold a microphone. What are my options for my own wireless mic? Do i need to get a whole system or will most of them work with existing PA setups?  I don't mind being wired (as long as I can move around) i just really hate holding anything in my hand because I talk with my hands a lot. Like a puppeteer but not as weird, Thanks.

Sorry to be extra duncy but can you explain how it works? Do you plug the existing PA into the base unit and that is what connects wirelessly to the mic?

The mic connects to the base station wirelessly. The base station outputs at microphone line level through both a 1/4" jack and an XLR connector. Either can be connected to the PA system. The easiest way to do that would be to yank whatever cable is going to the existing mic and plug the base station in instead.

Hi OJ,

I do public speaking as well. I love Shure headphones, but for my money Samson makes the best wireless microphones. My favorite, in terms of looks, performance and portability is the Samson Wireless Airline Micro. Bonus: it's an exquisite microphone for professional recording or speech recognition with something like Dragon.

Not sure about the sizes, but the channels refer to bands of radio frequency. Basically, if you're in a place like a fitness club where several instructors will be wearing these at the same time in nearby studios, you want to make sure they don't interfere with each other. For spacious places where one person's talking at a time, this is a non-issue. This article from B&H goes in depth.

Thanks for the input. I went with the one you suggested SCGC, I'll let you know how it works out for me!
