I really liked Wilson coming out of Alabama, lots of tools but very unrefined. I remember him dropping in the draft but then having a good rookie year in Cleveland. I'm not sure what happened to him after that but given our crappy off ball LB depth this seems like a reasonable move.

Wilson’s 2022 cap hit is about 1.5M higher because, unlike Wino, he actually hit the playing time salary escalator for players drafted rounds2-7 entering their fourth year.

Wilson played almost two hundred defensive snaps in 2021 and was a core ST for CLE. This guy will have a legitimate chance to make the roster as a rotational LB and ST.

Wino was not working here. He couldn’t get on the field on early downs, and he wasn’t a good enough pass rusher to warrant a roster spot as a pass rushing specialist. Maybe it’ll work out differently in Cleveland.

One question I have about Wilson....

I've seen a lot of "does this mean smaller quicker LBs, he's 6'1" 233" stuff kicking around.

Has anyone seen enough of the Browns and him in particular to tell if he's actually quick? He came into the league at 241 and not fast at all. Most guys at LB add weight, he cut it, has it made a noticeable impact on his speed/quickness?

It's kind of shocking now but Winovich led the 2020 Patriots in sacks with 5.5. He never really set the edge to BB's liking and they clearly did not have a use for him besides ST last year. Too bad, when he was drafted, we all thought he would be useful.
