I am now watching last night's game on mlbn, because I fell asleep last night around the fifth inning.
No Buck and Smoltz! No stupid bases display! Whoever the guys are in the booth, they are inoffensive and I have no urge to turn them off.
Edit: one of them is Dan Plesac, who is sort of an idiot, but the other guy is quick to gently correct his errors, like calling the Astros catcher "d'Arneau."
Must be the MLB International broadcast. I remember for the Red Sox-Dodgers series it was Vasgersian on the play-by-play. Even without hearing it, I can't help but think they've upgraded.
Almost anyone is better than Vasgersian...but Braun (apparently an MLBN and also NHL Network studio host) seems miscast to me as a play-by-play guy. I agree that Plesac was inoffensive, but however bad Smoltz may be - granting that it's easier for me to listen to him than other bad color guys simply because of his long history pitching for my favorite team - I'd still rather have Buck in my play-by-play chair.
